Gee, what a surprise!
Quote:

While the story behind Trayvon Martin's shooting death continues to grab headlines, interest in the case is sharply divided along partisan and racial lines, according to a new study by Pew Research Center.

Far more Republicans (56%) than Democrats (25%) say there has been too much coverage of Martin's death, according to Pew, which surveyed a "nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults" last Thursday through Sunday about top new stories. http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/04/justice/florida-teen-shooting/index.html
?hpt=hp_t3

Of course, the MSM has already moved on to more current issues already, as usual, and this will no doubt be quicky forgotten. Until the next time.

I agree to an extent. The media has basically tried the case on their own, even with constantly shifting facts.

I certainly think there's something fishy about the case, and that there should be a triel - but in an actual court. The media is just milking it for ratings, not doing anything positive about it.

Oh wait, did you mean people are tired of hearing that Zimmerman is the bad guy? You betcha.

What is going to happen when Z gets cleared (if)? Retractions by them that sought to crucify him?

lol

No, it'll be just left on the side of the road. Like usual.

Until the next "tragedy" of course. Then the mob (your crew) will grab their pitchforks, and torches, and set to the "good works" you so believe you are about.

Oprah's launching a new cable network called TMD. The 24-hour Trayvon Martin Death channel will be hosted by visiting celebs including Malik Shabazz, Jeremiah Wright, Todd Bridges, Stymie, and others. Al Sharpton will be interviewing Dred Scott on whether it is legal to drink iced tea out of a can.

Yeah, we're sick of the lies, the spin and the race baiting by the media, the clowns like Sharpton, and even Democrats , who have blatantly misrepresented the facts and intentionally tried to stir up division and hatred, instead of simply letting the process take its course.

Zimmerman is white. He isn't.

Trayvon was shot in the back of the head, execution style. He wasn't.

Zimmerman suffered zero injuries.

Trayvon, as pictured, isn't a 12 yr old, but was in fact 17 years old, stood 6 ft tall, and was hardly a 'skinny kid'.

Which runs into another LIE told by the media. Zimmerman outweighed Martin by 100 ( I think Niki said 130 lbs ? ). False. There was 30-40 lbs difference. 50, tops. Far from the hulking brute , picking on the mild mannered, fresh faced kid as the media tried to portray.

Want more ? Or does that draw you a clear enough picture?

Boy, for someone who hates it when others bring up "lies" and "lying", you don't seem to have a problem accusing "the Left" of exactly that.

Let me guess: If FauxNews said Zimmerman was white, they "misspoke", right?

Oh, and I forgot to add the NBC edited 9-1-1 call, by Zimmerman. He was asked what the suspect looked like " white, black or hispanic " , and he replied " He looks black ". Only NBC altered the audio, as the Left often does, and completely changed the context of the conversation.

If FOX ( never heard of 'fauxNews', sorry ) News reported that Zimmerman was 'white', then it shows they're as bad as the rest of the media, and no where near as 'right-wing' as the Left would have us believe.

I agree with Story's original post, it is a situation that needed further investigation, and its good that it got media coverage because it was a situation that warrants scrutiny, but I think at this point the media coverage might be doing a disservice to the legal case.

And that's what has the mighty-whitey-righties so up in the arms they keep and bear. This was a case they hoped would be quickly forgotten about, and then when it wasn't, they decided they'd play the false-equivalency game and start screaming "But what about all the OTHER shootings?!"

And when challenged to show us which other shootings they were talking about in which the identity of the shooter was known, he was questioned by police, then given back his gun and sent on his way... they vanished. And now they want the story to vanish, too, and they're extremely pissed that it hasn't, and shows no sign of just conveniently disappearing.

kwickie - the ACORN tapes weren't altered to distort what events actually took place. Neither were the Breitbart videos.

But you're clearly too brain locked to admit that.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I'm not getting into this ridiculous shit, but I will offer some information and say this: As in EVERY story, misinformation comes out initially and is clarified later on. That's exactly what's happened here, and with the shooting over in Oakland, and with every other similar happening. We are still getting updated facts about the Oakland shooting, and more information as it is gathered.

Zimmerman was initially reported as Caucasian; that was changed the minute the facts came out. I never ONCE heard Trayvon was shot in the back of the head, from ANY news source. Zimmerman appeared to have no injuries; once the tape was enhanced there is "something" visible on the back of his head. I haven't yet heard what it is, how serious it is, or anything else.

As to Trayvon's size and weight; Trayvon was DEAD, remember, and his body gone. All people had to go on initially was an old picture of Zimmerman in which he was pudgy, and whatever the family told the police. I doubt Trayvon was weighed or examined, given all the other mistakes made.

Now, I haven't heard from day one that Trayvon was anything but 17 years old. Dunno where that came from. I heard updates from MSNBC and CNN both showing the enhanced video and the fact that "something" is visible on the back of Zimmerman's head. That's all anyone knows at this point, as far as I can tell. I also heard the correction of Trayvon's size and weight from both sources AND other MSM; dunno how they got the correct figures, but given the only way to know that would be from information like his driver's license or other identifying material, and he (unlike Zimmerman) had no police record, I imagine they had to dig to find it out. That's called reporting.

CNN went even further. They had enhanced the words muttered under Zimmerman's breath, which is what brought the feds to town. They went on to enhance it FURTHER and listen again, and agreed that it sounded like he said "fucking COLD", rather than what people thought at first, and that it meant the feds would probably go away, since there was no further indication of racism or profiling.

The MSM has consistently called Zimmerman a "neighborhood watch captain", missing the fact that he's apprently he ONLY person who VOLUNTEERED to do the neighborhood watch, and is captain of nothing. I haven't heard that anywhere, and only found it on a couple of stories on the internet. If they wanted to make him look worse, I think they'd have reported that. There's something else they've updated and clarified, but I can't remember what it was just now. All the updated information I listed above I heard last night, so I hadn't reported it here yet, as I just got up.

Gee, what bastards the media are, lying like that!

Me, I'm following it because I find it interesting to "investigate" the only way I can...but following it on the internet and when it comes up on TV. Since I only watch TV in the evening and only come here in the morning, I get my news fairly late.

All reporters had to go on initially was what the police and family told them and what the police video showed. The information will continue to be updated and come out as time goes on, just like every other story in the world. I can imagine the FAMILY hasn't been very helpful when it comes to telling facts which might make Trayvon look worse, and as far as I know, what was reported initially came from those on the scene and the police and family. Given Trayvon is dead, and was lying on the ground, and the police essentially did no investigation, I don't know how anyone else would be able to determine his weight or height.

To say FauxNews is impartial is such a joke it's not even funny anymore, just boring. One only has to look back at the faked rally photo and other things to know that's not true. Anyone who claims Breitbart's material was factual, when it's been PROVEN otherwise, even by the authorities, pretty much dismisses anything they have to say as attempts to claim something which isn't true. As in lying, because it got so much attention at the time that anyone who keeps up with the news knows the truth.

Aaaand, that's about as much time and attention as this is worth, until and unless more pertinent informatio comes out.

Really only one question left...is there a rock big enough for all the race mongers and sleazy Democrat political opportunists to hide under once the facts are revealed that Martin was the attacker and was lawfully shot dead? Let's see, they didn't stay under their last rock for too long after the Duke lacrosse racially hyped and whipped-up charges were all dropped did they? Now they have latched onto Travon in another pathetic and kool-aid driven campaign to whip up the Black vote for Obama. He only got 93% last time, but more is always better. And considering how devastating Obama's economy has been for Blacks in general, surely inciting a little racial hatred was on their menu. And NBC & ABC can continue to edit and doctor their coverage of Martin in Dan Ratheresque desperation even when the Feds and Special Prosecutor decide that there are no charges against Zimmerman.

1. Never heard a single person say Zimmerman was white. And actually, very few of the reporters I've seen go out of their way to say that Trayvon was black. They show pictures of Trayvon and Zimmerman's mug shot semi-regularly, and leave it at that.

2. Never heard anyone said Trayvon was shot execution style. Not even anything close to that.

3. Closest thing I've heard to that is that there is a video of Zimmerman in the police station shortly after the shooting, and there is no evidence on that video that he is injured; no blood on his face or clothes from a broken nose, no visible bruises, etc.

4. Who ever said Trayvon was twelve? I haven't heard anyone say he was anything other than seventeen/a teenager. And unarmed, which seems to be the main thing.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Yup, Rose, that's about the sum of it. I remembered the other thing I heard: It was first reported that Zimmerman was let go free and went home with his gun. The video shows he was taken to the police station in handcuffs, tho' they decided not to officially arrest him, and it's been reported that his gun is in police custody. Damn that liberal media, pointing those things out!!

I can only guess the claims were made on FauxNews in the context of the "lamestream media lies" or something, because I NEVER heard those things you mentioned, about him having been shot "execution style" or that he was anything other than 17.
Quote:

In a fast-paced world of 24-hour cable news and nonstop social media, what happened that night has become both common knowledge and a blur of unattributed rumor accepted as fact. A controversial police report incited conspiracy theories and failed to definitively resolve what everyone wants to know: Who picked the fight? http://www.freep.com/article/C4/20120405/NEWS07/204050441/Night-of-Tra
yvon-Martin-s-killing-filled-with-conflicting-reports?odyssey=nav%7Chead
Detroit Free Press...no doubt part of the vast liberal media conspiracy.

I still can't find anywhere that says Trayvon was 12. Ah--on a website which has "conspiracy theorists" and "lunatic fringe" in it's header, a blogger who calls himself "Anonymous Coward" writes "The media has continued to show old photos of Trayvon from when he appears to be about 12 years old, instead of recent photos which show him in a much less flattering light." A comment on Redstate: "You have seen the picture of Trayvon when he was 11 or 12 years old, as has everyone else because the media won’t show us what he looked like at 17, which I think is very telling." Nowhere can I find anything that actually SAID he was 12. And subsequent photos are quite appropriate for a 17-year-old; I'm guessing those first shown were the first they could get their hands on. Oh, yeah, and I've seen widespread coverage of all the shit that was brought out about his personal life, which has nothing to do with that night, and Zimmerman's background, which definitely DOES relate to his wanting to be an authority figure, having an arrest for aggresssion against a cop, carrying a gun, etc.

And yeah, googling turns up a bunch of blogs saying he was shot "execution style", but I never heard anything like that on any MSM or on their websites.

I guess these are a useful attempt to point to a liberal media bias, but they're reaching awfully far!

And yes, what you said is what I heard, at least at first, too. The simple fact that Zimmerman stalked him, after being told not to and responding "okay" to that advice, puts him in the wrong. So MANY things which are now shown to be facts don't look good for Zimmerman; his past aggressions, that neighborhood watch agencies have repeatedly stated that carrying a gun isn't acceptable practice; that Trayvon was doing nothing but walking home; the distance Zimmerman stalked him; the police actions and INactions, and on and on. It's enough to make anyone wonder WTF, but of course, wondering that is just a liberal thing, nobody on the right would EVER question police actions or believe facts that go against their own opinions...

This pretty much sums it up for me:
Quote:

Nearly everyone expressed despair for Trayvon and disgust for shooter George Zimmerman. Here in Philadelphia, a diverse array of citizens filled LOVE Park three times to express outrage. Even Mayor Nutter weighed in, going so far as to call the killing an "assassination" on MSNBC. For the first time since 9/11, it seemed that the whole country shared the same sense of sadness and anger.

Then reality set in.

Over the past two weeks, our country has gone from a refreshing state of collective compassion to our sadly familiar pattern of racial and political tribalism.

The truth is that we live in a nation that desperately wants to deny its most painful truths. We find no problem with 12 months of Casey Anthony media coverage but can't stand three weeks of Trayvon Martin coverage because the latter forces us to come to terms with white supremacy and police misconduct.

We would rather criminalize a hoodie than deal with the fact that our system criminalizes black and brown people. We'd rather concoct fantastic stories of Trayvon as a lawless aggressor so that we don't have to explain why his confessed killer continues to walk the streets. More at http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/146196765.html] Ay-yup!

Quote:

Okay, but I was just saying all I had heard was that there was no evidence of injury on the video that was taken very soon after the shooting. That's all that was being covered and reported on. You know, since we're talking about coverage.
And perhaps he was treated by paramedics, but then there would have perhaps been visible bruising. Also, if any serious harm had been done to him, there may still have been blood on his clothing, unless he popped home to change between being seen by the paramedics and being brought into a police station in handcuffs. If serious harm was not done to him, then I don't see how he was justified in pulling the trigger. Not that very many things would justify it, but some things might. If he had a knife wound, bruised throat from being throttled, or another life-threatening injury, perhaps. As I said, much of the coverage has focused on the fact that Trayvon Martin was unarmed. He was not likely to be posing deadly threat without a weapon in his hands.

Quote:

Many of the photos the MSM are showing are of when Trayvon was much younger. The more recent pic, of an older Trayvon , with his gold 'grill' , don't exactly paint the same picture of a more innocent, cherubic victim.

I'm sorry, again I'm not quite understanding this. The young man had a 'grill' and this would somehow mean, what, that he was not innocent? Highly unattractive though I find them to be, those things are hardly evidence of attempted murder or other justification for being shot to death.
Also, I have seen three or four photos in heavy rotation. Some of them look like they may be of a younger Trayvon Martin, which often seems to be done in montages of the deceased; showing a few snapshots from different points in their life. The one I have seen most often in this "main stream media" shows an unsmiling teenager in a white hooded sweatshirt. This makes him look like a pretty average teenager, honestly, neither cherubic or criminal, just a boy doing what they do in their teens.

Quote:

Even so, I don't see that deadly force was necessary, but that's easy for us to say now, after the fact. At the time, we don't know exactly what was going on. The facts should be allowed to come out, and this 'rush to judgement' doesn't do anyone any favors.

I'm glad you don't see the deadly force as necessary. I can't imagine how it could have been. However, that should have been determined by the courts, or be in the process of being determined by the courts. That is the main thing being argued for. There should be a trial when someone is shot to death on the street, no matter who it is. In this case, it was a young person, which I think touched a few nerves. No one likes the idea of their children dying, and I think folks who are 10-15 years older than me were looking at this case and thinking, "Hey, he's about my kid's age" and that's bound to be upsetting. I don't think coverage is likely to stop until this thing goes to court.

When I say I have not been following obsessively, that means that I haven't been scouring the internets for threads or blogs about it, not that I have been paying no attention. All I said was what I have heard being reported, which has not included these so-called lies about Trayvon Martin or the man who shot him. I think if one is going to say they are sick of all the lies flying around newsrooms, those lies should actually be all over the news.

I googled "Corinne Brown Trayvon executed" (and "execution", and "Corinne Brown says/said Trayvon executed" as well) and could find nothing about her having said he was shot in the head execution style. Ah, I see you clarified that it was Fredricka Brown, who is quoted as saying "she was drafting legislation to establish a commission on the social status of black men and boys so that other black youths would not be “hunted down like a rabid dog” and “shot in the street.” She didn't say TRAYVON was shot that way, tho' yes, the implication is there.

However, while looking, I found her being reported as trying to calm things down:
Quote:

There was a brief moment of booing, when Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett addressed the crowd.
But U.S. Representative Corrine Brown quickly quieted it when she told them how Triplett flew to Washington, DC, and met with congressmen for five hours about the case and helped get the 911 tapes released to the public, which generated a social media buzz that propelled the case nationally. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2119340/Trayvon-Martin-case-Ne
wt-Gingrich-slams-Obamas-disgraceful-comments-shooting.html

So does that mean you were deliberately misrepresenting Brown? No, it means you clarified after finding out the facts, and your coloration of her as having said something bad was both erroneous and portrayed her in a way that is opposite of her real actions. Get it?
Quote:

Yes, 'WTF' is a legit question. But if the facts show that TM jumped GZ from behind, and was beating him, then how does that change the story ?
It would change the situation somewhat, but there's still the question of who comes under the "stand-your-ground" law. The law is poorly written, and it's possible that jumping from behind, when one feels one is threatened by being stalked, would come under that statute, I don't know. I've heard a lot about the law being bandied back and forth, and one of the politicians from that area said that it should be a matter of who INSTIGATED the situation, and that those who instigate it should not be allowed to profit from killing the other person. AND that they (I forget who, sorry) and others in position to redo the law should make that a clear part of it.

I think one of the things people are upset about is that the police immediately gave Zimmerman the benefit of the doubt that he'd been attacked, the law kicked right in, and no effort was made to discover whether MARTIN might have come under that same law. The police department definitely has problems; once they heard the dispatch call (which I doubt they even bothered to do), they should have questioned why Zimmerman got out of his car and stalked Martin after being told not to. That could well be considered instigating, and they never even considered it.
Quote:

Even so, I don't see that deadly force was necessary, but that's easy for us to say now, after the fact. At the time, we don't know exactly what was going on. The facts should be allowed to come out, and this 'rush to judgement' doesn't do anyone any favors.
Thank you for your honesty. But the "rush to judgment" thing has happened innumerable times, from all different sides of issues. I believe you probably remember the rush to judgment over Sherrod? Myriad examples can be found of ANY such occurrence causing a rush to judgment by both the population and the media, so while your statement is correct that it doesn't do anyone any favors, attempts by some to blame "the left" in some of the more stupid comments here are irrelevant.

Googling for "Martin shot in back of head", by the way, I can ONLY find that one claim by Kyle (and a few repetitions of him claiming it). So claiming it was widely said is untrue, as best I can discover. If you have cites wherein it was claimed by more than Kyle, that might prove your point. Otherwise, it's one person who got his facts wrong, and the newspaper which printed the claim pulled it almost immediately. The three links you offered are all about Kyles saying that, from the same source. We have no other proof that he actually said it.

What I heard clarifying the weight difference was that Zimmerman outweighed Martin by 50 lbs., to answer that issue.

I note you said initially "Trayvon, as pictured, isn't a 12 yr old, but was in fact 17 years old" Ergo, your claim was not that anyone SAID Trayvon was 12...what someone looks like in a photo is a subjective judgment, so claiming it was a "lie" is incorrect. Essentially everything you pointed to as "lies" by the media weren't. Some were initial reports, which were corrected and updated, one was claimed by a single person and removed from the media immediately, and one was about a photograph--Trayvon was never described as BEING 12.

Geezer:
Quote:

Say WHAA?? I looked at the first post; neither one is mentioned. I also checked the link I had put up; neither is mentioned there, either. Dunno what you mean by this.

Again initial reports are later clarified (and the MSM reports them), they are not "lies". In our recent Oakland shooting, a witness said the shooter stood up in class and started shooting. That was only reported once, and as more facts came out, was clarified.

That's how it works, you know...in the flurry of coverage, people report what they know or can find out, and later as more information comes out, it's clarified. Are you saying NOTHING should be reported until absolutely all the facts are in?? In which case, all the facts STILL aren't completely known, so it should never have been reported on? Taken further, I guess NOTHING should ever be reported on until everyone is absolutely positively certain of all the facts. To take that to extremes, the Kennedy shooting should never have been reported on, given nobody STILL knows "all the facts" Do you see the fallacy I am trying to point out? It has nothing to do with deliberate "lies", surely you can see that. Or maybe not.

Say WHAA?? I looked at the first post; neither one is mentioned. I also checked the link I had put up; neither is mentioned there, either. Dunno what you mean by this.

How soon they forget.

The link was to the ""Racism is dead in America" Bullshit" thread, and for some reason didn't work.

the first post contained this:

Quote:

Trayvon a 17 year old African American boy was shot in a gated community where his father lives in Florida. He was shot by a self-appointed White Community Watch Captain who was walking around with a gun. Zimmerman the community watch person decided Trayvon looked suspicious. All the boy had was candy and a drink. He was not bothering anyone. He was simply walking from the store to his father's house. So we have to ask ourselves what about the boy made him "look" suspicious? Zimmerman approached the boy after calling the police and the police telling him not to follow the boy.

Disregarding the police Zimmerman approached the boy with a gun and the boy attempted to defend himself. Now Zimmerman who weighed about 100 pounds more than the boy and had a gun is claimng self defense. He shot and killed this innocent boy. The police have not arrested Zimmerman because they claim there is no evidence or witness to counter his claim of self defense. http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-761553?hpt=hp_bn2

Note the stuff I underlined. You posted it. Strange you don't remember it.

ETA: Anyone have any idea why this link won't work?
