CHRISISALL

I signed a petition concerning the Nazifying of the internet, and THIS is what I get back (I highlighted the more hi-larious bits):

Quote:

Dear Chris,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 (S. 2105). As always, I value your input and appreciate hearing from you.

On February 14, 2012, Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced S. 2105, which seeks to safeguard the nation’s cyber networks from attack. Specifically, S. 2105 would direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with other federal agencies and private sector entities, to determine which sectors of our critical infrastructure are most vulnerable to cyber-attacks and put forth certain requirements to improve national cybersecurity defenses. This legislation also seeks to clarify the role of DHS in cybersecurity matters over federal civilian networks and improve information sharing between the government and the private sector.

I understand your concerns about the scope of this proposed piece of legislation and its privacy implications. Given the integral role that the internet plays in today’s society, I believe we must preserve the internet's functionality in the event of a terrorist attack. The risk this nation faces to cyber attack is very real, but finding responsible solutions for mitigating this risk requires a balanced approach—both protecting the American people and preserving their civil liberties.

There are a number of cybersecurity bills currently being considered in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. S. 2105 was referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which held a hearing on the bill this past February. As a member of this committee, I am actively engaged in reviewing the various approaches to address this growing national security threat. Should S. 2105 come before the full Senate for debate, I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind.

Again, thank you for sharing your views with me. Should you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or visit my website at www.scottbrown.senate.gov.

Sincerely,
Scott P. Brown
United States Senator

It's growing. Like weeds. See it? Over there on the horizon?

No, not the terrorist cyber threat, the repeat of 1939....

Congress doesn't listen to us, they send out little canned messages about don't worry your concerns are unfounded, here's why we need this!

Worthless, all of them. Traitors.

If I were in Congress, I couldn't and wouldn't answer my own mail.
But I would want mail readers trained to understand common English who could interpret
incoming letters and use them as an opinion poll. i.e., I'd want to respond voters' wants in
order to be re-elected. The heck with principles & practicality! I would strive for popularity.

Still, I realize that one is supposed to side with their party, NOT the voters. Being a politician
ain't easy.

As for Cyper-Terrorists crashing the internet, I've been a computer junkie for over 25 years.
I know how to do things on a computer besides surf.

Clever, no?

. . . . .The worst and most frequent consequence of paranoia is that it's self-fulfilling.

It may be the size of a postage stamp, but the above statement appears to be at least one piece of common ground that we all can stand. Right, Left, Middle, other....

It truly is a sad predicament we're all in.
