I know, they mean little or nothing, but I see all over Google that Rasmussen has Romney over Obama by seven points. I know the righties will be crowing over it, so I thought I'd bring some perspective:

tion_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

Putting them all together, Obama is over Romney by +1.3. But those polls reflect over time, and it shifts back and forth, plus, it's waaaaay too early to take anything seriously, even if you DO take polls seriously, which I don't. A week ago, Reuters and AP had Obama up by 7 and 8 respectively, so that kind of puts Rasmussen in perspective.

As the NY Daily News said,
Quote:

Although the survey was cheered by Republicans, the race appears volatile - and other polls conducted this week have the President ahead.
So cheer away, righties, enjoy it while you can.

I dont think there is much disagreement that Romney had a bounce coming as soon as the primaries ended...I mean, he doesnt have a bunch of conservatives saying how horrible he is any more...that kinda thing will drag your poll numbers down a bit, yes?

Like u said, it is certainly way too early for these to mean anything other than as an indicator of trends...and based on the million different companies conducting these, and the questionable methods used (by companies leaning both ways), including cell phone bias, and the numbers begin to have even less meaning.

I think the 04 elections showed one of two things, either A) polling is fairly meaningless, as Kerry had a lead going into election day, and all the exit polls had him dominting; or B) Karl Rove stole that election.

Me, I tend to think both of those things r true.

They're not telling everyone how terrible Romney is, but the lukewarm endorsements he's getting from other conservatives isn't really helping his case, either.

Endorsing Romney basically comes down to issuing a statement saying "Of all the GOP candidates for the presidency in 2012, Mitt Romney is one of them!" Not exactly a ringing endorsement, that.

They still haven't told everyone how terrible and completely unprepared for the job Obama is, so it's a good bet they'll keep those stories out of the press, until after the November election.

It's May. I'm glad the polls are showing Romney up, but I'm not lighting up any cigars over it.

C'mon folks, damn it, none of this matters as much as the electoral map. And looking at the map, Obama has a commanding lead. As things stand today, he's all but clinched the election. As long as the states leaning his way go ahead and vote for him, all he has to do is pick up 17 more electoral votes (that's at most 2 of the toss up states) to win. It's about the map. Always look at the map.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

I'm encouraged by your postings on Obama's lock, but...

Is there something wrong with me that I think we might just deserve Romney and his ilk? Like we need to be punished for being so fucking lame? Like him being even this close means we suck mightily and deserve to get Romneyed?

What is it that makes people think their input matters to this process ?

Firstoff, in a PRESIDENTIAL election, the popular vote is tallied only as a matter of record and then DISCARDED.
There's been quite a few times in history the popular vote has run opposite to what the powers that be want, do you think it had any real impact ?

Nah, this one is on the electors, and do you even KNOW who your electors are, how they were selected, any of that ?
Of course not, cause THAT is where the nod and wink, handshake deals happen in smoke filled back rooms and those who really run this country carve us and our belongings up like a thanksgiving turkey for the feast, without an ounce of concern for us poor turkeys, and no concern ABOUT it cause our promise of non-violence makes any token resistance not only laughable, but a convenient excuse to make an example of what happens to resisters - just like shooting fish in a barrel.

Does it no occur to you that all this is laid down in advance and this is all a dog and pony show to hold up the bogus pretense that we have any real input, all smoke and mirrors to hide the hands that pull the strings ?
Never occured to any of you that some folk keep their ear to the ground in the right places and know at least the general content of these deals, mayhaps ?

By percent 56% Obama 36% Romney 8% Other, plus or minus about 3-4%
That's electors mind you, and it'll tip a bit back and forth depending on what deals are made, what concessions are offered, like that goddamn military spending bill they just bought off with that once again shits all over medical and food aid to the poor, that right there robbed a dozen delegates off Romney, cause he didn't lick the Mil-Industry-Intel complex boots hard enough for their liking.

Oh, and IF you DID have any input, AND you somehow managed to scam the process - the powers that be would just IGNORE you, spit in your face and do what they wanted any way, which they always do.

Seriously, people - the FACT that the powers that be ain't in any way bound by the results makes elections a farce.
Would it be too much to ask, for folk to stop pretending otherwise ?

Pizmo, yes, once again we agree. In many ways we deserve no better. Just look at the election(S!) of Bush. But I would never wish being "Romneyfied" on the country, partly because it would harm those who don't deserve it, and partly because, for all it's flaws, I love my country.
