Mississippi Conservative Calls For Putting Gay People To Death On Facebook Page

Quote:

Republicans have been furiously attacking the LGBT community ever since President Obama announced his support of marriage equality for same-sex couples. Some Republicans have taken their criticism to the extreme. In Mississippi, GOP state Rep. Andy Gipson posted a message on his Facebook page which calls for putting gays and lesbians to death.

On May 10, Gipson made the following post:

“Been a lot of press on Obama’s opinion on “homosexual marriage.” The only opinion that counts is God’s: see Romans 1:26-28 and Leviticus 20:13. Anyway you slice it, it is sin. Not to mention horrific social policy.”

Later on in the thread, Gipson posts a comment about how homosexuality is “unnatural” and causes “disease.”

According to Leviticus 20:13, “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

By referring to this Bible verse on his Facebook page, Gipson is in fact, calling for killing homosexuals. And he isn’t apologizing for it either.

If you support marriage equality and gay rights, there are people in the conservative movement and the GOP who don't just want you to be quiet about it; they want you DEAD.

Never for a moment forget who these people are, and what they want.

Lots of dot connecting going on there.

Fact is, the dim wit didn't actually say what the thread title claims he said.

*yawn*

But sure, direct or indirect calling for gays or witches or even gay witches, to be put to death... is pure lunacy.

And yes, never forget who I am.

I think it is a bit of a stretch to say this person is calling for gays to be killed because he posted quotes from the bible.

There are people in my 'hood who want the Gays to be killed. Their only conflict
about it is whether they should be stoned or burned.

My notion of the Christian Bible: Christianity is explained in the New Testament.
They kept the Old Testament for the line of Solomon and general history. But the
teachings of Christ replace the teachings of Moses, etc.

Sis3 is a bit of a Bible scholar. She told me that Leviticus 20:13 is not properly
translated from the Torah, so it is wrong.

Some Rabbi input might clear it up.

Hello,

If I may make a classic internet move and invoke the Nazis...

I wonder what someone would think if a politician said, "The only opinion that matters about Jews is Hitler's. Mein Kampf, Chapter 3, Paragraph 2."

Then what would people think he was trying to say about Jews?

--Anthony

(Disclaimer - I don't actually know that Chapter 3, Paragraph 2 is a vital chapter. It is a thought exercise.)

In that reference I understand he is calling for Jews to be killed. In the one presented it comes off as more "the bible says being gay is bad and here is examples".

Edit, never mind I've changed my mind after looking at Gipson's facebook page. He is that vile.

So by DIRECTLY referencing the specific passage that says "They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads," you think it's a stretch to link that to wanting gays killed?

The posts quoted are the Representative's own words, posted by him on his own facebook page.

EDIT: Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, he really did post that, and he really did say he won't apologize for it.

...and now he has clearified his position.

"Well it's been an interesting day to say the least. Here at home I've received several threats in one day, to me personally, via email and on the phone, and at least one apparent death-threat left on the answering machine to my whole family. Apparently the Huffington Post (a California-based liberal blog) ran an article falsely stating or implying that my facebook post citing Leviticus 20:13 was to "suggest" that gay people should be put to death. I reject and resent that accusation; I have NEVER condoned or requested the killing of ANY PERSON. I believe all are created in the image of God, and one of the 10 Commandments is "Thou shalt not murder." What I did intend and did say is that the Bible clearly defines homosexual conduct as morally wrong - a sin. I cited this and another scripture for the purpose of pointing out that the conduct is sin, in defense of my stance against same-sex marriage. What I find amazing is that the same people asserting the virtue of "tolerance" will tolerate all views except the view of Scripture - and, as evidenced today, will call and threaten me for referring to a Bible passage! Of course, we are all sinners, all in need of God's grace. Only Jesus Christ can provide the grace we all need, including the folks who left those hateful messages on my answering machine. I pray for them that they would see and understand the truth."

He still a massive bigot, and may very well have been suggesting what people are saying.

Ugh I hate it when politicians try to backstep something they said wrong, but then level an accusation against the people who were justifiably offended. Not enough tolerance? Dude they thought you were condoning the killing of gay people, of course they aren't going to tolerate that. By your own admission even YOU wouldn't.

The death threats were over the line, but don't turn the offended outrage leveled at you into some damn bullshit message about Christianity being under attack - no, YOUR DUMB ASS IS. You brought this entirely on yourself, you could have just quoted the translations about homosexuality being an abomination that mention nothing about killing gay people, but you CHOSE the translation that does. Don't go hiding behind scriptures and crying religious intolerance, own up to it.

It would have been better if he had quoted the bits about it not being right without the killing parts. By quoting the killing parts he's being too agressive. I don't want anyone being killed here, maybe he does? Or maybe he just didn't realize that quoting killing parts will make everyone think he wants that? Which I would hope he doesn't.

I assume you're my pal until you let me know otherwise.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

North Carolina conservative pastor joins the fracas, calls for gays to be put into concentration camps:

http://www.complex.com/city-guide/2012/05/north-carolina-pastor-says-g
ays-and-lesbians-should-be-put-in-electrified-concentration-camps

Quote:

North Carolina still refuses to join the 21st century—and reality—by outlawing gay marriage, and the most zealous citizens have taken homophobia to new heights. After Rev. Sean Harris suggested parents beat their kids into traditional gender roles, another “man of God” has said he thinks all gays and lesbians should be placed behind electric fences and left to die.

Here are Pastor Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church’s words of wisdom from last Sunday’s sermon:

“I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers, but I couldn't get it passed through Congress…. Build a great, big, large fence - 50 or 100 mile long - put all the lesbians in there… Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals, and have that fence electrified 'til they can't get out... And you know what, in a few years, they'll die out. Do you know why? They can't reproduce.”

Some people treat progress like it’s the plague.

As Rappy says, you keep connecting the dots, and pretty soon you have a line. Like the GOP's war on women, there are only about a thousand "isolated incidents" to point out. It's not like there's a pattern or anything...

Kinda hard to take anything seriously after reading this first line.

"outlawing" gay marriage ? It's never been the law of NC or any other state in the union before. How does one outlaw that which isn't a law in the first place ?

And as for 'joining the 21st century', wtf? EVERY state in the union which has had the issue of gay marriage on the ballot, the issue has been voted down. Every single time. It's only been activist judges who have imposed gay marriage ( an oxymoron ) onto the public.

But this 'pastor', sounds like he never made it out of grade school. A true idiot.

Fact Checks: one google or wikipedia search away.

Quote:

Massachusetts became the first state to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples in 2004. Such licenses are granted by six states: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont, plus Washington, D.C. and Oregon's Coquille and Washington state's Suquamish Indian tribes. The states of Washington[1] and Maryland have passed laws in 2012 to begin granting same-sex marriage licenses, but each may be delayed or derailed by November 2012 voter referenda. New Jersey has also passed a resolution recognizing same-sex unions, but it may be vetoed by governor Chris Christie.

Byte, he's trying to say only activist judges imposed same-sex marriage legality. Unfortunately he's wrong. It was VOTED ON by state legislatures, and governors either signed or vetoed the laws. Only California (thus far) left it up to the people and, just as with civil rights and segregation, leaving it up to the people isn't a good idea...as California can attest!

I'm pretty sure that's what you meant, I'm just clarifying that it was NOT "activist judges", but state legislatures.

Hmm, actually it appears that my information was out of date. There WAS a voter referendum in New Jersey... And Gay Marriage won. Apparently even Chris Christie didn't bother to dispute the results.

Also, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona_Proposition_107_%282006%29

First you said it's only been because of activist judges that gay marriages have been sanctioned, and then you said that it's never been passed on the voting ballot. Which one do you want to be wrong about, AU?

Again, please fact check. This only took me like a minute to do.

Yup, and Raptor was also incorrect in saying "It's only been activist judges who have imposed gay marriage ( an oxymoron ) onto the public." That has been pointed out, and anyone can go to Wikipedia if they need to read the list of each and every state where the LEGISLATURE has passed or rejected same-sex marriage, and where the GOVERNOR has either signed it into law or vetoed it. It's not about "activist" judges at all, and if Raptor wants to claim that he didn't lie (or, perhaps more likely, ignorantly attribute it to judges), then he is incorrect. Turns out he's also incorrect in saying every single time it's been on the ballot, it's been rejected, from what you just posted. Just sayin'.

Well, I was both right and wrong. But as for New Jersey, same sex marriage hasn't been voted on , by the public, and signed into law yet.

It was approved by the Legislature, not the populace.

"I have been just as adamant that same-sex couples in a civil union deserve the very same rights and benefits enjoyed by married couples — as well as the strict enforcement of those rights and benefits,’’ Gov. Christie

That state wide referendum comes in November.

And Storybook, maybe if I tossed around the charge of others lying 1/10th as much as you do about me, I'd care what you say. But since I don't, you have less than any zero credibility.

No worries, Byte. But notice how I didn't brand you a liar, stupid, or being a puppy kicking monster.

But my point remains valid. In EVERY state where the people are allowed to vote on the matter, it's been shot down. Not speaking gay unions, but gay MARRIAGE. Most folks , I think , fall in line w/ Gov Christie, who feel it's just fine to have gay unions granted all the legal rights as heterosexual marriages, but that doesn't make them a 'marriage'. Such legal issues can extend beyond gay couples, but may not have anything to do with marriage. What Gov Christie is supporting actually goes beyond what those who just want gay marriage to be legal. I can't for a second see how that's in the least bit 'bigoted' or wrong. I just don't.

I don't think you're lying, I think you're speaking off the cuff. But it's important even then to try to be as accurate as possible, because when you're not, someone will call you on making a mistake, like my thing up there with New Jersey.

Well, there are lots of theories and arguments about this. Is it a fetal development thing? Genetics? Environment? Some combination? We know that not all gay guys are effeminate, not all effeminate guys are gay, not all lesbians are masculine, and not all tomboys are lesbians. Also, gay guys don't act like women in relationships (a common mistake among fanfic writers who write previously straight characters as gay). Human sexuality is pretty complicated, we don't even know for sure if there are neurological differences, as in brain structure and responses, what lights up and such, between straight people and gay people.

Yeah, a fair and truth-some statement. I do speak off the cuff, mostly, as I view these forums as more as free flowing conversations, and not term papers, to be accompanied by voluminous pages of cut and paste, or twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one.

But that's just how I roll. Your usage may vary.

Oh, and 1 more thing...

I call bullshit on this. There are short folks who have tall parents, but you wouldn't say that isn't hereditary. There are also plenty of gay men who have sired children in an attempt to appear "normal" to society, and there are lesbians who have gotten pregnant. It is hereditary, it does tend to run in families, and you don't have to be gay yourself to have a gay child. Then, there's the bell curve to consider; bisexual people have happily conceived children with opposite-sex partners, and those children could very well inherit the same sexuality, but ultimately end up with someone of the same sex. There's a lot of variation to consider, but that doesn't change the fact that sexuality is just as hereditary as everything else.

Facts are stubborn things.

Oonj: "It ain't hereditary."
I thought about changing that line, but I liked it, even inaccurate.
My original line was "most gays have heterosexual parents."

Yes, I believe gays are born, not made. I've argued the point a few times.

So correcting myself: "If they put all the gay men in one concentration camp, &
all the lesbians in another, and if, as a result, the lesbians bear no children,
Worley is still wrong, still a twit.

There is nothing to prevent heterosexual couples from producing gay kids just as
they have always done. Gays would still be born.

Therefore, after they discover the gay gene(s), it makes more sense to imprison
all the people who carry that gene, although I personally would give the post
menopausal women a pass. Those who didn't want to be imprisoned could volunteer
for sterilization. [sarcasm intended]

Wasn't that what the subtext of the XMen movies were all about ? The 'finding a cure' for their affliction, as being an analogy for curing the gay?

Sure it was.

And like the movie, there is no ' cure '. Nor is there any final solution. Sheesh.

Hmmm. In the movies, maybe. The X-Men as Stan Lee originally created them, no.

Or moving over to Captain America, Steve Rogers, not a wimp at all, but he was small
and weak enough to be a target for bullies. Stan is anti-bully.

Peter Parker, nerdy, shy, and awkward. Not going to be Homecoming King.

Then Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, full-on geniuses. Some folks are uncomfortable around
eggheads. However, in the late 60's, Mr. Spock made intelligence more popular, even
sexy.

What I got from Stan Lee (& Theodore Sturgeon & Harlan Ellison) is brown monkeys
don't like green monkeys; small-minded humans don't like anyone who is noticably
different. In school, non conformists are ridiculed, geniuses despised.

Stan's cure for the Oddballs was to let them become super heroes who were popular.
But as themselves, their secret identities, they still would suffer loneliness.

Oh, I get that part. I really do. Mystique's comment " You know, people like you are the reason I was afraid to go to school as a child. " , speaks volumes.

Where as I think Stan and Co. were speaking to the problems of conformity and acceptance , in a larger sense, of those who were 'different', somehow the issue of homosexuality has risen to take the focal point of all " others " who feel like outcasts. At least, that's the way I saw The Last Stand movie.

And as we've seen, not all outcasts play nicely or get along with other outcasts. It's an arbitrary grouping , made on their behalf, to be categorized as ' other ', and just because someone else decided that this group and that group are minorities, they should feel a common bond of rejection and antagonism and become allies against a common foe. Doesn't always work out like that.

Exactly why the illogical hatred of Obama exists, and why the Republicans play it up so hard. Humans have always rejected the "other"--that one is shared by animals and for the health of the species. We have no such excuse.

Kay Jamison's book "Touched With Fire" makes a great argument. Long before bipolarity was discovered as a disorder, bipolars--if talent and/or famous--were considered "eccentric". Those who were not, were considered crazy and locked away. Yet it was often bipolars who helped the gene pool make giant steps forward, without which either evolution would have taken longer or wouldn't have happened. Nonetheless, unless there was a reason for society to tolerate them, they were shunned.

No, there are plenty of REASONS ( not excuses ) that Republicans and others dislike Obama. It's his politics, chiefly, along w/ his arrogance and incompetence.

You don't want to acknowledge those, of course, because it disarms you and takes away from your ability to deal w/ very real and valid issues on which others differ w/ Obama.

It's not because his skin reflects less light than mine. Herman Cain is darker than Obama, and I like him just fine.

You'll have to do better. Much better.

I know - Obama's arrogance just kills me. How dare he come from nothing and graduate college by borrowing money to attend! The sheer arrogance of such a move! Why didn't he just live off his stock dividends or borrow money from his rich parents, like Mitt Romney did?

And incompetence - you betcha. Why, Obama was so incompetent that they made him head of the Harvard Law Review. Only a true incompetent could make a claim like that! It's not like his predecessor in the White House, who had his family money buy him a place in an Ivy League school, and then worked hard to maintain a C average and then skipped out on his military service!

That Obama is such an incompetent snob! He's making the really rich folks look bad, because he's so arrogant and dumb that he thinks a President should actually have to TRY once in a while! Rappy and every Republican know that you're just supposed to hand the office to the rich white guy and stay out of his way!

Obama borrowed the $ to attend college ? From who ?

And what were Obama's college transcripts? Why has he never released them ?

All Bush did was get elected as Gov of one of the largest states in the nation. Twice. Obama ? Hell, he was given the position of Harvard Law Review! Woo hoo!

What's wrong with somebody wanting to execute a gay resident of the White House?

Quote:

A radio talk-show host who also heads up a Minnesota-based Christian ministry states he intends to persist in fighting for justice in his defamation lawsuit against MSNBC and one of its lesbian liberal anchors.

Bradlee Dean is an ordained preacher and executive director of You Can Run but You Cannot Hide International, which is dedicated to restoring morality and values in the youths of America. He sued MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow last year, accusing her of editing and twisting his words to make it seem as though he supports the execution of homosexuals.

At one time Dean made a statement on the air criticizing Christians for not having the courage to stand against the radical homosexual lobby even though their lifestyle is directly in contradiction to the holy Bible which Christians claim to be their final authority in all matters of faith and practice and the written word of God.

In an attempt to make a point, Dean noted that Muslims take their sincerely held beliefs more seriously than Christians through their enforcement of sharia law. When he made the statement at no time did he condone the Muslim practice of executing homosexuals.

This did not stop Maddow who edited the statements and attemptted to convince people that Dean was calling for the public execution of homosexuals.

“’She took one minute out of one portion of my radio show in the first report. She omitted one portion, and then … she went to different radio shows and she clipped them in like it was the same radio program,’ Dean explains.”

He went on to say Maddow’s selective editing is similar to what NBC did when they invalid a 911 call to convince people that George Zimmerman was a racist.

Maddow countered Dean’s suit by filing a motion to dismiss the case.

“They’ve endangered my life, my ministry’s life, and if they can do it to me, which they’re not going to do to me, they’ll do this to anybody that lets them get away with it,” he warns. “That’s the bottom line right there; that’s the problem. We’re not going to let them get away with it. And if people keep letting them do this, well, you’re only encouraging them to continue on to do this.”
