Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I was wondering today about the interconnectdedness of countries, and how much we rely on each other.

I was also wondering about oppressive governments where people may not have all the rights they aspire to.

And I began to wonder what would happen if there was a revolution in China and they stopped all exports and imports for 180 days due to the disruption of a civil war or revolution. All business in China shut down as the nation settled internal politics.

What would happen to us here if China ceased to exist for half a year?

Well, I think we'd have to "make do" with the cheap plastic crap and wonky electronics we already have. Might speed "our" electronics productions, and then double the prices short term- even though it would really be produced in Mexico. But I'm also sure there would be a surge of warm and fuzzy patriotism, and then after we figure out we did nothing to earn it...nothing will have changed...
