In Louisiana, Republican Governor Bobby Jindal pushed for a voucher program that would allow state funds to be used to pay for religious schools. It’s unconstitutional, it’s a way to use taxpayer money to fund someone’s faith, and it was a bad idea to begin with.

But it passed.

Now, one of the state legislators, Rep. Valarie Hodges (R-Watson), just made a shocking discovery, though: Christianity isn’t the only religion!

Raptor is pretty much always right. And by 'right', I mean correct, accurate and true in how he sees the world.

So, vouchers are an ill-conceived idea ? Letting the individuals decide on how they want to spend their educational dollars isn't a good idea?

Huh.

Do you support the use of vouchers to send children to Islamic madrassas?

Educational TAX dollars. No, it's not--if it allows TAX dollars to support religious education.

So let me understand. When it comes to being forced to provide procedures that their religion finds objectionable (birth control) in their employee's insurance they are secular institutions and subject to the law. Now when it comes to accepting educational vouchers you're saying that they are religious institutions and this violates the constitution. Yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense.

Hello,

I find it all to be a delicious irony. Finding themselves unable to fully transform public schools into Christian schools, these so-called conservatives found a way to finance Christian schools and make it affordable to send their children there.

This was the ill conception. It was not conceived as a means to allow free choice. It was conceived as a means to support Christian education.

It becomes glaringly obvious that 'freedom' was not the motivating factor when one sees the alarm expressed that people might freely choose non-Christian religious education.

If the law had been conceived with an eye towards freedom, the GOP would rejoice at its intended outcome: That people enjoy their diverse freedom of choice in all its forms.

No, it was a law designed to finance religion, but only their religion. An ill-conceived law with unintended consequences- all religious schools may benefit. Ooops.

These so-called conservatives are lovers of freedom- but only the freedom to choose as they prefer.

Actually, THEY say they are religious institutions - that's why they're against having their insurance cover birth control.

Try to keep up.

It is. You are not required to send your children to public schools. You are free to send them to religious schools. You are just not free to demand that I pay for it.

But hey, maybe they can use some education funding to help build that non-mosque that's not at Ground Zero! If that's their choice, of course. You'd support that, right?

RIONAEIRE

Beir bua agus beannacht

This doesn't seem like a good idea, private schools are just that, private, meaning the government doesn't pay for them.

My personal issue with private schools is that they usually don't take kids with disabilities because they can't afford to. So on a personal level I don't support private school, as in I would never send my imaginary children there (lets hope I don't ever have any real children). But I support their right to exist and have the coriculum they see fit, as long as kids pass the tests necessary etc. that their public school counterparts must pass.

So I have mixed feelings about private schools.

I have Kathy Bates on speed dial, mwa ha ha ha (in exaggeratedly evil voice)
