Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"I just don't get how so many (apparently??) can be so fired up about Romney, given how his plan will affect the vast majority of Americans."

He's not black.

SignyM: I swear, if we really knew what was being decided about us in our absence, and how hosed the government is prepared to let us be, we would string them up.

Eh...

The salespeople I've known want to sell a lot more than just a product - they want to sell their image as someone who's important and knowledgeable and better than most people. Sometimes, in order to do that, they'll refuse to be proven wrong, often by not acknowledging your point at all, or acknowledging it but sticking to their guns. And they'll lie to coworkers and business associates (aka people who know better) about the weirdest, stupidest shit. If you'd like, I can PM you with some specific examples; they're fairly context-specific to the industry I worked in, and I'd rather not make myself more easily identifiable.

Anyway, it seems to me that if Auraptor's trying to sell us on anything, it's the Right's (and by extension his) superiority over the Left and everyone else. And that's the last I'll say about it, because this conversation leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

This shows that you don't understand how Medicare works. Changes where made to the system that will save money. Nothing was cut from it because it does not work like that. Medicare is mandated spending so it always get as much money as it needs.

There has not been one lie about Ryan's plan. Everything said has been backed up with links to super reputable sites.

I guess, if you're a fan of Romney, and his polices, you'll buy anything.

Well, I could nitpick that it wasn't the "roll-out" of Biden, but why bother? Politicians are human, the media eats it up when they flub; that's fair. And of course, "The Republican National Committee jumped on the gaffe calling it a "freudian slip", so our laughing at Romney is just as appropriate. Breitbart, of course, was all over it...I won't quote them, lest there are those who haven't had breakfast yet.

But I'll just bother to point out "Romney also corrected his mistake, but a bit more slowly, returning to the stage after he'd already stepped off it. Reuters reports that Romney's wife Ann, pointed out the error to him". That's a bit funnier, having to return to the stage as opposed to correcting it in the next sentence, but not much. Partisan tempest in a teapot, I agree.

This is a place where we DISCUSS events in the real world, Troll, or didn't you know that? We rarely change anyone's mind about anything, so if we only posted here to change minds, nobody would post here! How many votes have Obama's budgets gotten in the last 3 years? That would include 3 years of a democratically controlled senate and 1 year of a democratically controlled house.

Go ahead, do the research. I'll wait.

That would be 40 less senate votes than Ryan's budget this year.

Shall I continue pointing out real problems with your guy? You know, the guy in charge who still tries to lay things off on Bush?

This is still pointless. We both already know who we're voting for. There would have to be an incredible October surprise to make people vote differently than they've already decided.

Yup, exactly like that.

You'll note for the record that I didn't call you a liar, gullible, or hard of hearing for posting that. It happened, and it was an embarrassing gaffe. In fact, I don't think anyone here has called you a liar for pointing out that this event occurred.

Pointing out a gaffe does not make someone a liar, and it doesn't make the gaffe not have happened.

Strangely, when I point out just such a gaffe by a Republican (but ONLY by a Republican), I'm called all sorts of wonderful names for doing so. Liar, gullible, hard of hearing, and more.

And when I point out that factually speaking, dollar for dollar, Republican presidents have overseen more growth of the national debt than Democrat presidents, I'm again told quite rudely and forcefully that that is "a total and complete lie", despite the numbers backing my claim 100%.

AH, so we went from "It doesn't matter!! Stop talking about it!" to "Answer this completely non-sequitor straw man - or stop talking!"

You couldn't have illustrated my point any more effectively - though granted, I seriously doubt you understand that you did, or how you did it.

I wish I could say I was surprised and such vapid a fallacious "reasoning", but I don't think my opinion of the wingnuts here con conceivably get any lower.

And seriously - when the fuck have you NOT been constantly pointing out problems with Obama? And if you wish to continue doing so, feel free (and realize that we will continue to correct you on the multiple occasions that your become... factually challenged). And, as much as it may pain you to understand, but if you bothered to look up things like dates, you might recall that a lot of our current shit DID in fact start with Dubya. Sorry.

You feel it's not worth talking about - groovy, that's your perrogotive. But, if that's what you are going to maintain - then maybe you could follow your own advice, and shut the fuck up.

I might also point out that not everyone across the country has decided how they're going to vote. But that would again, be expecting you to attempt to have a thought that pushes beyond your pre-conceived notions (though I sghould not be surprised that a person who thinks they know it all thinks they know how others think, too) - so nevermind.

But if you want me to just stop pointing out the fallacies coming from the right, you can just go right ahead and blow me.

Come to think of it, you once said you were never going to speak to me again, because I was too crude. I invite you to keep your word (though youve proven incaopable).

Apparently the House has been far too busy voting to repeal ObamaCare to pass a budget.

No, not 'both sides' do it. Only the Left. I'm fucking sick of this lie from the Left, that EVERYONE is guilty, so you can't blame them for lying. Horseshit!

Death Panels ? - True. The Left only whines at the facts being revealed, because they don't like the public to know what's comin'.

Kenya ? - Obama's own biography said it.

102 rounds of golf ? Oh yeah, that IS true.

Note that in order to call the lies I listed true - he has to re-frame them, or in the case of the "200 million a day" issue - just pretend I didn't mention it, and bring up a completely unrelated point.

Nice to know that he has jumped fully into the birther wagon. I had mistakenly thought that was the one thing too stupid for even his dumb ass to buy into. He sure proved me wrong. That's okay - one more thing to make fun of him over.

ROFLMAO!!!!

Which is worse, one news site running w/ an erroneous claim of 200 million $'s a day , OR the Senate Majority leader , the President, both blatantly LYING ?

I know what you'll say, but I really don't care. I just wanted you to see how ridiculous your claims were, and that , as usual, you have nothing of substance, what so ever.

Well, at least the poor boys capable of admitting the LIE happened, now.

A little growth. Im impressed. Of course, it's a cancerous growth, but it's something.

(Side note, since he mentioned Golf, as if it's some crime that Obama plays it.... I seem to recall the last guy saying he had given it up to "honor the fallen" and then was photographed playing it later. That seems a hell of a lot more like a LIE than simply playing it, but I don't live in Rappyland, so what do I know?)

Granted, he still couldn't be honest about (FOX news making it their top story for a day isn't "one little site" and Michelle Bachman is one of several elected GOP officials who repeated the LIE. So, you're still an idiotic sack of shit, but you're one with a furry mole on your back, now.

Good for you!!

Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.

When the press discovers Ryan's inevitable messed-up skeleton (you DO know that it's gonna happen, don't you?), you will look like her, for a moment anyway, heh heh.

He was pretty cool on the Treyvon thread. Level headed, insightful.
But that incident/thread engendered no party labels.
The word "LIBERAL" is a High Alliance subliminal that sets him off. Lucky he can't fight worth a damn.

Well, rappy... trust fund baby that he is... just drifts through life spewing the most vile so-called philosophy which, when implemented, ruins many lives as well as the earth's climate.

So, what does rappy "deserve", really?

From that leftist website...Fox News...

Fact Check: Ryan budget plan doesn't actually slash the budget

Here are a few little-known facts about Paul Ryan's supposedly slash-and-burn budget plan.

Government spending increases almost every year over the next decade.
Tax and other revenue rises year after year.
The 10-year deficit is still $3 trillion.
The fact that Ryan's spending plans grow the federal budget over the long term is one that could easily be lost in the political melee underway in the wake of his selection as Mitt Romney's running mate.

To be sure, Ryan is proposing major changes to Medicare and taxation that Democrats see as problematic.

But claims that Ryan is slashing spending don't quite square with the numbers. Those claims are convenient Washington shorthand for what Ryan's plan actually proposes -- which is to slow the rate of budget growth, but still allow the budget to grow.

Under the latest Ryan plan, the budget would grow from $3.6 trillion this year to $4.9 trillion in 2022. The only years in which spending would dip are 2013 and 2014.

Under President Obama's 2013 budget, spending also increases over the 10-year period, but by a much bigger amount. The budget grows from $3.8 trillion in 2012 to $5.8 trillion in 2022. And instead of the $3.1 trillion long-term deficit under Ryan's plan, Obama's plan comes with a $6.7 trillion deficit.

That's the money that would be added to the national debt over that period.

There is one measure by which Ryan is shrinking the budget. Over the next 10 years, it proposes to shrink government spending "as a share of the economy" from roughly 23 percent to about 20 percent.

The Obama campaign, though, calls the Ryan plan a "sham."

In a website launched immediately after he was picked as Romney's running mate, the campaign said the "extreme budget plan" would make "deep spending cuts now to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy."

Ryan's proposal calls for cutting the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent. It would implement two individual income tax brackets -- 10 percent and 25 percent.

While claims that Ryan is slashing the budget are questionable, there are studies to back up claims that the Republicans' tax plan benefits the wealthy more than others.

According to an Aug. 1 study released by the Tax Policy Center, Romney's tax plan would include cuts that "predominantly favor upper-income taxpayers."

It projected taxpayers making over $1 million would see tax cuts averaging $175,000. Those making between $75,000 and $100,000 would see an average tax cut of $1,800. And those making under $30,000 would see an average increase of $130, according to the report.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

It's possible to pity both, if you think about it. One type is suffering physical difficulties of a pretty terrible kind which affects their lives and their families in a horrible fashion. Some will crash and burn; some will stick together as families and grow as human beings from their suffering. In the end, those who do will be happier and more sane individuals.

Raptor's type are stuck in such an ugly, hate-filled little bubble from which they will never emerge.

In no way to demean those who are suffering, I wish them all the luck in the world (which I wouldn't wish for Raptor...). But both are pitiful in their ways, and Raptor is trapped in hell already. Between his far, hatred, inability to connect with the world, and his poor brainwashed mind, he'll never escape HIS prison.

I've got pity enough for both. Difference is, I would try (and have tried) to help the former; the latter, I would just avoid being around.
