Their website is calling it the “Convention Without Walls", which is terribly amusing given
Quote:

Some things are just meant to be private, like when politicians, lobbyists and delegates party together. In other words: No press allowed.

That’s the message from the Ohio Republican Party to reporters covering the Republican National Convention in Tampa next week. The Ohio party has a number of social events, starting with a Sunday evening “Welcome to Tampa” reception at the Postcard Inn on the Beach, in St. Pete Beach, featuring U.S. House Speaker John Boehner.

The wording on the schedule? “Closed press.”

The press ban is also in effect at the four other social events the Republican Party has scheduled. They are: a Monday night reception at the Columbia Restaurant in Tampa’s Ybor City with state Senate President Tom Niehaus and House Speaker William Batchelder; a Tuesday afternoon reception with U.S. Sen. Rob Portman at the Florida Aquarium; a Wednesday night reception with Gov. John Kasich and Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor aboard a boat cruising Tampa Bay, and a Thursday night “Grand Finale Reception” at the delegation hotel.

Now "walls" there, nope, you betcha!

Bummer, I'd love the American people to see what goes on there; obviously they would NOT! I wonder what they're afraid of?

WHOZIT

How many of Barry's Hollywood fund raisers have banned the press? Now they're pissed because the GOP won't let them come to any of their partys? I wouldn't want any of those douchebags from MSNBC or the NYT standing around NOT have fun, they'd just stand there and bitch about how dull the party is.

Go back to English class..if you don't even know the plural of "party", your communication skills suck.

So do your posts, actually, but that's a personal opinion. The other is simply fact--something with which you seem particularly unfamiliar.

Well, at least Whozit had the honesty to admit how dull the GOP's versions of its "partys" are...

I know they think "no press" means they'll be able to be completely candid and uncorked, but I'll bet some pix and cell-phone vids get out that leave an unkind impression.

JONGSSTRAW

The Republican Party is going to have very groovy parties boasting some of the the biggest names in music. One event will feature Great White re-creating their legendary Rhode Island rock and napalm show while inside a giant paper mache vagina. Another will pair rock legends Tommy James with the Hondells singing Mony Mony as The Donald applies strawberry styling gel to his pubic hair. The Shondells weren't available 'cause they're Democrats. And to cap it all off in grand style, Tony Orlando and Denny Terio will tag-team wrestle against Leslie Uggams and Dionne Warwick in a large vat of boiling bacon grease, in what's anticipated to be an un-precedented display of Party diversity.

Do you know the way to Tampa Bay....woe woe woe woe woe woe woe woe woe woe.

Hmmm, better than Reuben's.
..One more.

DNC information meeting for uptown venues closed to press

Charlotte Business Journal by Susan Stabley, Staff Writer
Date: Tuesday, August 14, 2012, 11:11am EDT - Last Modified: Tuesday, August 14, 2012, 11:44am EDT

Businesses in uptown Charlotte were debriefed this morning on how the Democratic National Convention will affect their operations.

The information session included representatives from the U.S. Secret Service, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, Alcohol Beverage Commission, Food and Drug Administration, Charlotte Fire Department, Mecklenburg County Health Department and Visit Charlotte.

This meeting was especially important because organizers promised new details for businesses regarding the recently released safety plan for uptown that details road closings, restricted areas and security checkpoints that will be in place during the DNC. The convention runs the first week of September.

News outlets were not allowed to cover the meeting, which was widely publicized and open to those who work at uptown venues.

The Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee organized this morning's event at the Charlotte Convention Center. Spokeswoman Suzi Emmerling says the media was barred from the information session because organizers wanted attendees “to speak freely and that dynamic changes when press is in the room.”

So the Republicans are keeping the press out of some social events, and the Democrats are keeping them out of a meeting about security plans that affect everyone doing business or going into downtown Charlotte during their convention.

Or maybe the Republican "social events" are like the Democrat's "gold ticket" private meetings for big donors.

Quote:

Those seeking invites to the most lavish receptions at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, "gold ticket" access to "dialogues," and private breakfast briefings with party luminaries, can expect a hefty price of admission.

A list of high-end convention packages circulated by the Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee, and obtained by ABC News, shows that those and other perks are being offered to donors who raise $1 million or donate $100,000 to the convention's nonprofit planning arm.

Then again, the Democrats won't even let children on the convention floor.

National Organization for Women chapters denounce ‘discrimination against moms’

By Jim Morrill jmorrill@charlotteobserver.com

CHARLOTTE, N.C. California Democrat Susie Shannon plans to come to the Democratic convention with her 4-year-old daughter, Gracie.

But she learned recently that convention organizers won’t provide child care or let children on the convention floor.

Now National Organization for Women chapters in Southern California – with an assist from feminist Gloria Steinem – are denouncing the convention for “discrimination against moms.”

“Women are the key to a Democratic victory, and sometimes, children are the key to women,” Steinem said in a statement. “It’s both right and smart for the Democratic Convention to behave as if children exist.”

Lindsey Horvath, president of the Hollywood NOW chapter, said the convention policy “creates an insurmountable barrier for mothers … to participate in the process of choosing a presidential candidate.”

Convention spokeswoman Joanne Peters said private child care providers are available on an official vendor directory. And lactation centers will be available in all venues for nursing mothers.

“Democratic conventions have historically required credentials for all individuals to access the convention hall to ensure the safety and security of all attending,” she said.

Shannon, 45, said “that is something, but unfortunately it’s not enough.”

“The Democratic Party shouldn’t put you in a position where you have to choose between your child and participating in a political convention,” she said.

And there's probably good reasons why both the Democrats and Republicans have put these restrictions in place, but considering them wouldn't allow you to spout your usual hatred.

Sunday, August 26, 2012Ron Paul Turned Down Offer to Speak at GOP Convention

Romney insisted on vetting Paul's speech and a full endorsement.

Ron Paul - Wiki Image
Activist Post

Many Ron Paul supporters and delegates have been very disappointed that Paul wasn't given a prime time speaking slot at the upcoming GOP convention in Tampa.

However, it has been revealed by the New York Times today that Paul was indeed offered the opportunity to speak at the convention. An offer which he turned down.

According to the New York Times, the Romney campaign offered the speaking slot on the condition that the speech was vetted and that Paul fully endorse Romney:

Mr. Paul, in an interview, said convention planners had offered him an opportunity to speak under two conditions: that he deliver remarks vetted by the Romney campaign, and that he give a full-fledged endorsement of Mr. Romney. He declined.

'It wouldn’t be my speech,' Mr. Paul said. 'That would undo everything I’ve done in the last 30 years. I don’t fully endorse him for president.'

Paul's statement also put to rest any speculation that he would be endorsing Romney for president in 2012.

Romney Executes Republican Party Power Grab

Aug 24, 2012 11:40am EDT

TAMPA — The Republican National Convention Rules Committee voted 63-38 to approve a new rule allowing granting the Republican National Committee — and Mitt Romney — sweeping new powers to amend the governing document of the GOP.

The move came at the encouragement of Mitt Romney supporters on the committee, including Romney's top lawyer Ben Ginsberg, who stressed that it would grant "flexibility" to Romney and the committee to adapt to changing political environments. The rule allows the RNC to amend the party's rules without a vote by the full Republican National Convention. And it offers the Republican Establishment a new tool to keep at by Tea Party initiatives that threaten to embarrass or contradict party leadership and stray from a planned message.

Romney, as his party's nominee, exerts significant influence over the RNC, which is made up of elected party officials from all 50 states, while the larger Convention Rules Committee is larger and has a more grassroots membership.

"This is necessary for the world in which we find ourselves in," Ginsberg told the committee, adding that it is "important for the political survival of the party in the electoral context," for the committee to be able to change the rules as it sees fit in the intervening four years between conventions.

Virginia delegate and RNC member Morton Blackwell strenuously objected to the proposed rule change, calling it "the most awful proposed amendments I’ve seen presented to this committee.”

"This is dangerous, it amounts to a power grab," he said. "We are abandoning the historic process by which are rules are adopted."

The Romney allies waited until Friday to propose the amendment, choosing to avoid giving the opposition time to organize by proposing it at the preliminary Rules meeting on Wednesday or during more than three years of RNC Rules Committee discussions.

South Carolina delegate Drew McKissick, who objected to the rule change, echoed Blackwell's charge, warning that nearly any rule could now be amended by 3/4 of the Republican National Committee.

"It’s definitely a power grab by the campaign, the committee," he said. "It’s bad juju. Once you let the genie out of the bottle they can do anything."

RNC reports that the convention is postponed until Tuesday due to Hurricane Isaac (to trick Ron Paul delegates to not show up for the nomination vote)

in Ron Paul 2012
Quicklink
UPDATE: If you are a delegate, you might still want to report on Monday. The RNC may be trying to trick the Paul delegates by telling them that Monday is entirely cancelled.

See also: Reince Priebus' memo: We will begin issuing revised convention programming as early as Sunday.
______
Republican National Convention President and CEO Bill Harris made the following statement: “Our chief priority is the safety of the residents of Florida, of those visiting the Convention, and all those in Gulf Coast states who may be impacted by Tropical Storm Isaac. We have been working closely with the campaign, the party, and state and local officials for months to ensure a successful, enjoyable convention. Federal, state and local officials assure us that they are prepared to respond, if needed, and the scheduling changes we are announcing today will help ensure the continued safety of all participants – our foremost concern. We are also committed to keeping the delegates and guests of the convention well informed about the situation, and we will continue providing updates in the hours and days ahead.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus made the following statement: “Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th. After consulting with Governor Scott, NOAA and local emergency management officials, we are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket.

But are the barring representatives of those businesses effected?

Normally, conservatives would complain if the press was reporting on security procedures. But then everything turns backwards when they think they can complain that a Dem is doing it.

Of course, you then go on to complain that they're NOT providing government-paid-for Child Care, and instead promoting local private business. Those pinko bastards!!

Who's complaining? A local newspaper carried the story, and noted the stated reason for having no press. I noted that both the Democrats and Republicans probably had good reasons for banning the press at certain functions.

Who's complaining? Not me. That would be the National Organization for Women who's complaining. Obviously a Republican-front organization, right?

Once again, I'm noting that there are probably good reasons for both Democrats and Republicans prohibiting certain folks at certain functions.

Oh, I caught that, but I also noticed the "but considering them wouldn't allow you to spout your usual hatred", which pretty much nullified everythinge else you wrote. There was no "hatred" in anything I posted OR my own words, but you consistently call it that, which of course shows your hatred of ME, not of democrats, and how you think. I have no hatred of Republicans in general, nor of those who want to get in power to control people (them I fear), nor of people like Raptor who will concede NOTHING negative about Republicans no matter what, nor even of you. Frustration, anger and dislike, yes, but no hatred here, just how you see it, which speaks to you, not me.

Not to mention the fact that your "What's the problem, can't find masks to fit your swelled heads?: is not one iota any better than Mike's snark, so you're not really one to talk.

I get that you diss both parties; the difference is that you consistently express negativity about Democrats and rarely about Republicans, and virtually always have the comeback to anything negative about Republicans with something negative about Democrats. That shows your bent; it would appear you are the one expressing hatred, and blamning others for what you do yourself.

I note for one PN and I are in agreement regarding the games being played to avoid dealing with Ron Paul and his supporters, which is actually a much more serious issue as it reflects their abuse of power and willingness to break rules, etc., to get their way, which I detailed in another thread.

At any rate, I posted something with snarks in it but no "hatred"; your mentality is apparently stuck in that mode and unable to actually see what is written. Which is about you and has nothing to do with me.
