First, they left any mention of God out of their platform.

Then, when asked bout the significance of this...

( Wow. Sounds like so many I know on here, who dodge, dance, refuse to answer a simple question, and then try to turn the " issue " into something completely unrelated to what was asked in the first place )

Watch the entire video. After the first vote, to suspend the rules, listen to the audio of Yeas to Nays, and you tell me if 2/3 voted FOR the amendment.

3 times they denied the amendment.

Kinda fitting, actually.

The Denial of Peter (or Peter's Denial) refers to three acts of denial of Jesus by the Apostle Peter as described in all four Gospels, including the three Synoptic Gospels, of the New Testament.

All four Canonical Gospels state that during Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples, he predicted that Peter would deny knowledge of him, stating that Peter would disown him before the rooster crowed the next morning.

Following the arrest of Jesus, Peter denied knowing him three times, but after the third denial, heard the rooster crow and recalled the prediction as Jesus turned to look at him. Peter then began to cry bitterly. This final incident is known as the Repentance of Peter. Both the denial and repentance incidents have been the subject of major works of art for centuries.

So the 89% of Americans that believe in God see the Dems voting not to include His name in the platform and 100% of Americans see Barry's FU Chicago thug style of leadership as it's rammed down their throats anyway. Gotta love it.

On another note, the lovely and winsome Debbie (if I had an ex-wife it would be her)Wasserman Schultz earns four Pinocchios from the Washington Post for flat out lying by dening a comment she made about Israel...

What an incredibly bigoted, simple-minded thread this is.

Let me get this straight; because the Democratic National Convention platform doesn't mention god, you write all the things you did? Wow.

As to the vote on Jerusalem: I didn't like it, it made me angry. I happened to see it as it happened, and was pissed.

But, the difference is, the exact same thing happened at the Republican Convention. Asked once; responses you couldn't tell apart; and immediately it was accepted that there was 2/3 vote (to a LOT of boos and catcalls) and moved on.

Tonight: Asked; responses you couldn't tell apart. Pause. Asked again; responses you couldn't tell apart; confusion by the speaker. Asked; responses you couldn't tell apart; confusion by the speaker; someone comes on stage and says something to him; speaker says there was 2/3 vote and moves on.

Neither instance was right. I can try to understand that if they got caught up in the voting, they'd be at it for hours--how WOULD they solve that? But there should be a better way; it's not right.

Defend the one before you attack the other, if you want to get into a pissing match.

It's a story. It made the news. I heard about it. THAT'S why it was posted here, hon. God™ was mentioned in the Dem platform in previous years, but not THIS year. That's a fact. And it was unusual. So MUCH so that Senator DICK Durbin was asked about this very thing ( did you SEE the vid ?) by Bret Baier, where DICK made a complete buffoon of himself, because DICK had no real answer. That set off the warning bells inside the DNC.

Even assuming that what you claim is accurate, it still misses the point. There is a time line here on the whole GOD issue, that you're ignoring.

The word 'God' for at least the first time in recent memory, is omitted from the platform of the Democratic Party.

Someone notices this, and decides to ask the simple question of WHY.

Dick Durbin goes on a national news network, gets asked the simple question, and messes himself with his refusal to explain.

Panic sets in at the DNC. Now everyone knows this story, it's out there, so it's decided that they must hurry up and fix this problem. So a hastily crafted amendment is worded, and brought to the floor for a vote.

The vote fails. ( At least by MY hearing, the Nays were every bit if not more as loud as the Yeas. It very well sounded like 60-40, against )

Befuddled, the speaker asks for another vote. Same thing. Panic sets in. Another vote. Same result.

As this isn't going according to plan ( plan meaning to quickly get this passed, and move on). Hoping to avoid further attention and embarrassment, the vote is declared in favor of the amendment passing.

One small problem. The bulk of this scenario takes place on live t.v. And, as you attested Niki, eyes were watching. EVERY where.

I stand corrected.

The delegates could have made any gorram noise they wanted to, it didn't matter. The 2/3 vote was chosen, well in advance, and all Mayor Villaraigosa had to do was to read his lines. Took him 3 tries, but he finally got it down. Cut! Print it ! It's a wrap!

Yep. Even the Washington Post FactChecker called the Dems on this.

From a longer FactChecker article pointing out other excursions from the truth at the DNC...

Quote:

— Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), DNC chair, interviewed on CNN

Wasserman Schultz, who on Wednesday earned Four Pinocchios for denying she made a statement that was caught on tape, insisted to the news network that Democrats were united in adding a reference to the Democrats’ platform that Jerusalem was Israel’s capital. The move was made after Republicans called attention to the fact that language from the 2008 platform had been dropped, alarming Jewish Democrats.

Yet Wasserman Schultz’s remarks are puzzling because Convention Chairman Antonio R. Villaraigosa had to ask three times for “aye” votes before concluding that the amendment had a two-thirds majority.

As The Post’s Scott Wilson reported, “The vote was far from decisive, however, and left many delegates who opposed the reinstatement of the language angry about the outcome. Some stood up from their seats inside the Time Warner Arena, shaking their fingers at Villaraigosa.”

Mark Landler of The New York Times reported that the change was “approved in a voice vote that had to be taken three times because of a chorus of noes in the arena.... The changes were meant to be a routine bit of business.... But they turned into a minor spectacle after the hall seemed balanced between yes and no votes, providing an unruly start to an evening meant to showcase attacks on Mitt Romney by former President Bill Clinton and others.”

Given such on-the-ground reporting, her claim of “no discord” is simply not credible.

What I "claimed" was accurate...apparently you weren't watching the convention:
Quote:

Controversy erupted on the convention floor when a dispute broke out over whether to seat the delegates of presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. Part of Maine’s delegation stormed off the floor in protest of a decision to strip away half of Paul’s delegates. Supportive members of other delegations rose to their feet and hollered their objections, angered by new rules that they say they will make it harder for grassroots candidates to stand a chance in future elections. Video at http://www.democracynow.org/2012/8/29/chaos_on_the_convention_floor_as

As to Fivver's amusing comments, I'll answer:

I can give you many reasons to vote for Obama, but I'm not going to waste my time. My major reason to vote for Obama is that Romney getting the Presidency would be a complete disaster for America. That's reason enough to vote for Obama.

But to answer more fully, a vote for Obama means Romney/Ryan won't get to do the things they've said they'll do or indicated they'll try to do:

Get rid of Roe v. Wade
Make Medicare a voucher system
Destroy Medicaid
Increase tax cuts on the wealthy
Get rid of programs to help the poor
Kill the EPA
Put in place a budget that will make things WORSE, not better
Destroy restrictions which protect the American people
Continue the war in Afghanistan, and from Romney's comments, consider war with Iran and possibly China/Russia
Make abortion illegal, and possibly contraception as well

There are plenty of more reasons, but just those are enough for me. I've stated clearly again and again that I'm not a fan of Obama and I'm sick of voting for the "least worst" candidate. Nonetheless, I firmly believe Romney/Ryan don't have the interests of America at heart and would be incredibly destructive to this country if they got power.

Fivver doesn't know enough about me to do more than toss around epithets and attacks at will, so I only bother to write the above to make my position clear to those who actually care; Fivver's attacks are totally irrelevant and actually somewhat amusing.

As to the "god" thing, I agree with this:
Quote:

I first heard that God had gone missing from the Democratic Party platform from a Facebook friend who rejoiced in a godless platform as a triumph for the First Amendment and the separation of church and state.

I was surprised, however, because since the loss of John Kerry to George W. Bush in the 2004 presidential race, Democrats have gotten religion.

President Obama used the word God five times in his inaugural address. And according my search of the database of The American Presidency Project at the University of California at Santa Barbara, he has used it thousands of times more during his presidency.

In remarks at annual National Prayer Breakfasts, Obama called us “children of God” in 2009, spoke of “God’s grace” in 2010, quoted from the Book of Job on “God’s voice” in 2011 and invoked “God’s command to ‘love thy neighbor as thyself’” in 2012.

The president also invoked the almighty in more prosaic settings, including fundraisers and television interviews and remarks to Super Bowl champions.

This April he used a weekly radio address to talk about Passover and Easter—“the story of the Exodus” and “”the all-important gift of grace through the resurrection of his son.”

And in dozens of speeches over the last two years Obama has spoken of our “God-given potential.”

That is the formulation that found its way back into this year’s Democratic Party platform, after "God" had gone missing in a prior draft.

None of this should really matter, of course. There isn’t any straight line from an affirmation of our “God-given potential” to any particular federal law. But it does matter because we continue as a nation to wage a culture war that goes back to the late 1970s.

That was when Republicans decided to start hammering away at their Democratic opponents on so-called “values” questions and in the process turned U.S. politics into a decades-long referendum on the libertinism of the 1960s.

Foolishly, the Democrats responded as my Facebook friend did, by invoking Thomas Jefferson and the First Amendment and the strict separation of church and state. But being the anti-God party in a nation in which 95% or so believe in God proved to be a losing strategy. So the Democrats reversed course in 2004.

For better or for worse, we now have two religious parties in the United States. The Constitution may be godless, but both parties are hell-bent on presenting themselves as godly.

Is this a good thing? If you believe, as George Washington wrote in his Farewell Address, that “religion and morality” are “these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens," then perhaps it is.

But do we really want “God” to serve as a “prop” of our politics? Apparently, the answer of both parties to that question is yes.

The decision of Democratic Party delegates to reinsert God into their party's platform was clearly motivated by political calculations rather than theological acumen. But are the decisions of the Republican Party any different?

Are the repeated references to "providence" and "God" in its platform proof that its policies are more godly?

In its discussion of the Second Amendment, the GOP platform informs us that our citizens’ “God-given right of self-defense” extends not only to gun ownership but also “the right to obtain and store ammunition without registration.” Really? Is bearing a semi-automatic weapon really the answer to "What would Jesus do?"

Is the fact that the GOP platform refers to “God” twelve times rather than one supposed to prove that Republicans are 12 times more godly?

As a matter of tradition, Americans have always mixed church and state, but they have almost always tried to do so in ways that were respectful of adherents of minority religions and of citizens without any religion at all. So what our two religious parties are doing today runs in the American grain.

Still, I can't help but feel that the now-obligatory references to God in virtually every presidential speech and every party proclamation are more about pridefully asserting one's godliness than humbly asserting one's faith.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus told his followers not to pray, as the hypocrites do, on the street corners, so they might be seen and admired, but to pray instead in their closets, in secret, with the doors shut.

Today I'd like a little more of that sort of religion, please, and a little less of the street corner hucksterism of the Democrats and Republicans alike.

As to the underlined, I say "amen"!

I don't think god belongs in politics, and I think the use of religion as a political ploy by the right is something I condemn.

Also,
Quote:

A recent media firestorm over referencing God in the 2012 Democratic Platform appears to be a bit of a tempest in a tea pot, ignoring critical context in a fashion that raises serious questions about the role of faith in public life. The controversy was kicked off by the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody, who noticed that the word “God” never appeared in the platform text despite the platform’s page-long discussion of the value of faith and religious institutions. The point was picked up by several Republican-leaning outlets, and then migrated into the mainstream media.

The Romney campaign has now jumped on this issue, sending Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan out to bash supposed Democratic hostility to faith:
Quote:

It’s not in keeping with our founding documents, our founding vision. I’d guess you’d have to ask the Obama administration why they purged all this language from their platform. There sure is a lot of mention of government. I guess I would just put the onus and the burden on them to explain why they did all this, these purges of God.

Setting aside Ryan’s misleading implications about the Founders and Foundational documents, the notion that the platform “purged all this language” about religion isn’t accurate. The platform’s “Faith” section makes this plain:
Quote:

Faith has always been a central part of the American story, and it has been a driving force of progress and justice throughout our history. We know that our nation, our communities, and our lives are made vastly stronger and richer by faith and the countless acts of justice and mercy it inspires. Faithbased organizations will always be critical allies in meeting the challenges that face our nation and our world – from domestic and global poverty, to climate change and human trafficking. People of faith and religious organizations do amazing work in communities across this country and the world, and we believe in lifting up and valuing that good work, and finding ways to support it where possible. We believe in constitutionally sound, evidence-based partnerships with faith-based and other non-profit organizations to serve those in need and advance our shared interests. There is no conflict between supporting faith-based institutions and respecting our Constitution, and a full commitment to both principles is essential for the continued flourishing of both faith and country.

Moreover, the first day of the Convention proper began and ended with a prayer. Veteran Nate Davis gave a speech that began “I’m not here tonight as a Democrat or a Republican, but as a man of Christian faith,” and a number of major speakers (including highlight Julián Castro, Lily Ledbetter, and Deval Patrick) referenced God in their speeches. It’s simply obvious there’s no hostility to God at the DNC. http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/09/05/796891/gop-suggests-democ
rats-are-hostile-to-god-ignore-lengthy-passage-on-faith-in-platform/

Sounds to me like the entire thing is, again, using religion as a political tool.

I've long found it amusing (if sad) that the Republican party has claimed the high road on "godliness", given ALL the things they've done and been outted for which go directly against the Christian faith. I find their focusing on the lack of the word "God" to be an unwarranted ploy.

By essentially demanding that the word "god" be in a political platform, and by various public displays of specific Christian religious references, prayers, etc., they are blatantly disrespecting every other religion, defying the separation of church and state, and in essence stating flatly that America is solely a Christian state. I resent that.

Damned straight, Mark, but do you ever see it actually happening? Unfortunately, I don't see it ever happening, here at least--and no doubt in many Muslim countries as well. It's too good a tool with which to manipulate people, and too effective in allowing people to puff out their chests and claim "I'm holier than thou".

Much as I, too, wish for complete separation of church and state, I don't see it happening, certainly in my lifetime!

Niki - All I asked for was a citation of your claim. Yes, there was an issue w/ how the GOP basically ignored the Paul plank, but that's besides the point. ( Yes, it's worthy of discussion, but it still bears no significance to what happened at the Dem convention. )

As for the other stuff you mentioned...

Get rid of Roe v. Wade - I know you support the RESULT of this law, but in actuality, it's a bad law. It should be repealed. ( Even those who support abortion / pro choice can admit that much )
Make Medicare a voucher system - Works for me.

Destroy Medicaid - It's dying anyway, as is Social Security. Their days are numbered, it's time to face reality.

Increase tax cuts on the wealthy - Don't know about that, save for keeping the Bush tax RATES.

Get rid of programs to help the poor - How about stream line programs that are redundant, and end up costing far more than they help ?

Kill the EPA - It needs some serious pruning, that's for damn sure. 'Kill' might be excessive.

Put in place a budget that will make things WORSE, not better - Now that's just childish rhetoric on your part. " Do things that make stuff better... duh! " Obama's massive debt hasn't helped a damn thing. Remember the ' summer of recovery ', after passing the trillion $ stimulus bill ? Yeah, that 'recovery' didn't exactly happen, did it ?

Destroy restrictions which protect the American people - More mindless, empty rhetoric. Excessive, brainless regulations are what are KILLING this country, not making anything better. Add OSHA to the hit list, now that i think of it.

Continue the war in Afghanistan, and from Romney's comments, consider war with Iran and possibly China/Russia - I'd like to see him try, and by that, I mean he won't have very much support from the American people. Talking tough on defense doesn't mean starting wars w/ everyone. In fact, it means quite the opposite.

Make abortion illegal, and possibly contraception as well - Again, that might be their fantasy , but it'll never happen. I know *I'd* never vote for that, but I would take fed funded abortions a thing of the past.

But it was the Democratic leadership at the Democratic Convention that rammed through mention of God (and Jeruselem as capital of Israel) in their platform, although many (possibly a majority) of delegates didn't vote for it.

There seems to be a great disconnect, between what the people want, and what their 'leaders' want for them.

And yes, this happens in both parties.

Preachers are going to talk politics from behind the pulpit, and politicians are going to push religion, to anyone willing to listen ( vote for them, give them money )

That's just a fact of life.

Oh, it decided alright. Chose to leave God™ out. Then, ( why am I having to repeat myself ? Oh yeah, it's Kwickie ) after DICK Dubrin's on air melt down , where he couldn't answer the most simple and direct of questions, the committed called an quick 911 meeting, cobbled together some patch work amendment, and then had it voted on, ex post facto.

Only problem is, the delegates voted to keep God™ OUT of the platform, but the committed wasn't going to have ANY of that, as it was all on t.v., and hell, folks ( gorram independents ) were watching, so they ordered that the vote to amend was passed, despite it clearly failing.

Here's what Romney said when asked if he regrets dissing the troops in Afghanistan by purposely omitting them from his speech:

I love that stating a vote had passed by 2/3 vote, when the "Ayes" and "Nays" were virtually identical, at the Republican convention " bears no significance to what happened at the Dem convention." They were precisely the SAME THING, except that at the DNC, they called the vote three times then said it had passed, whereas at the RNC, they didn't even bother dealing with the vocal vote but rode right over it. It MEANS that, had the vocal vote been discernably different at the DNC, they might have followed it. At the RNC it was totally irrelevant.

And
Quote:

But it was the Democratic leadership at the Democratic Convention that rammed through mention of God (and Jeruselem (sic) as capital of Israel) in their platform, although many (possibly a majority) of delegates didn't vote for it.
Yup. And I hate it. I never said Dems had balls, and their desire to look like the "good guys" has always sickened me. What a political platform says has always been relatively irrelevant, however, while last-minute changes to the rules and stymieing Ron Paul supporters from even having a VOTE, much less even a voice, is pretty serious in a democracy.

We already know Raptor toes the party line, so the things he responded to are irrelevant. He has no concept of the RESULTS of what he agrees with, it's just what he's been fed so he buys it. "Even those who support abortion / pro choice can admit that much"--I'd like to hear some cites and quotes on that, because I flatly don't believe it.
Quote:

Ironic that Rappy, the so-called "atheist", has a problem with a party leaving a magical sky buddy out of the conversation.

Not the slightest bit ironic, just typical. Whatever serves the cause of attacking Democrats, he's completely behind...it has nothing to do with his personal beliefs, you should know that by now. His comeback to your remark is patent proof. He's got nuttin'.

What's ironic to ME is that he's all over this "god" thing, but completely ignoring what happened at the RNC when they rode roughshod over the Ron Paul vote. Mentioning god or Jerusalem in a platform is one thing, but as I said, quelling freedom of speech by changing rules and flatly ignoring the vocal vote is much more serious. Also, the vote definitely did NOT show that the amendment failed; it was as difficult to tell the Yays from Nays as the one at the RNC--not that he'd ever admit that!

Yeah Mike, I caught the "committed" thing too--which he used twice--but it's so usual with Raptor, it wasn't worth mentioning. Just the idea that the RNC was even comparable to the DNC, and that the DNC "stumble and bumble its way through the convention, and make colossal asses of themselves" is hysterical, and equally predictable.

Let's see hwat his "god" Faux News had to say: "Fox News political analyst Chris Wallace called first lady Michelle Obama’s address to the Democratic National Convention “masterful” and heartfelt"; "everyone at the convention center in Charlotte appears to have been charmed by Michelle Obama's speech -- including the Fox News pundits. That sort of praise is... not something you hear too often from those guys.".

Oh, and how about this?

Wow. Sounds like pretty high praise to ME! As for stumbling and bumbling, I think Clint Eastwood gave us the best example of THAT. What's truly sad is that Raptor is SO enmeshed in his need to hate and denegrate anything from the left that he's apparently unaware of the high praise for the DNC resounding everywhere, as well as the negative reactions regarding the RNC. Blind as a friggin' bat, he is--how AWFUL to go through life like that! Of course, it probably doesn't bother him one whit that he's living in a Republican Alternate Universe.

Conventions historically give candidates a bump, right? The RNC gave Romney NO BUMP WHATSOEVER. Contrastingly, the DNC upped Obama's job approval rating to 52%, the highest it has been since May 2011, and gave him a 48% to 45% lead over Mitt Romney among registered voters in the election tracking, up from Obama's 47% to 46% margin over the last nine days. "Bumbling and stumbling" to a higher approval rating and a lead over Romney, indeed. They should bumble and stumble like that more often! Poor Raptor--I wonder if he saw something for himself which was patently negative to Republicans and positive to Democrats...If FauxNews even COVERED it that way...if he could ever bring himself to admit it? Robotically, of course he couldn't, it would give him a coronary.

As to any "substantive response", the initial issue has been covered quite thoroughly...so that leaves nothing TO do but enjoy Raptor's incompetent bigotry.

Niki, it can't be both. In the first paragraph, you claim the RNC did PRECISELY THE SAME THING, and then you go on to admit that the RNC didn't even CALL for a vocal vote, at all!

Sorry hon, not the same. Not even close.

Show me where in recent memory the DNC has voted God OUT of their party platform ? They didn't 'forget' , as Debbie Whatshername Schultz tried to claim. They flat out did it INTENTIONALLY! Why ? Because that is exactly who they are ! But in order to placate the non-whacko branch of the DNC ( which is clearly becoming smaller and smaller ), as well as to give the phony impression of being 'moderates' and not scare off the independent voters, the party leaders bumbled and fumbled their way into over turning the will of the convention delegates. Bravo! To me, THAT is hi-fraking-larious!

Yeah, I don't like socialists, which is what the Dem party has turned into. How can I state that any clearer for you to understand ?

Ron Paul got his video. He's had his chance to win over the party, and he's simply failed. In the past 2 elections, the man has won a grand total of ZERO primaries. And despite the fact that he's got a couple of really good positions with which I agree, he also is bat shit crazy on a few others. So much so that it DQ's him ( IMO ) as a serious candidate.

Your segue over to what FOX news said about a speech... I'm not even sure of what you're getting at there. I've said nothing about her, don't care to, and it's a pointless, irrelevant non issue.

Quote:

Let's see hwat his "god" Faux News had to say

And then you go on w/ yet another irrelevant segue to what 'bump' was given, when frankly, I don't care. Doesn't matter. The GOP ran a better convention, put out quality, diverse, positive speakers, and that's about all I could ask for. They didn't bash Obama, nearly as much as they could have, and instead chose to focus on the future. The election isn't today or tomorrow, and with the pathetic jobs report which just came out, I have to believe that Americans will see the light and vote for real CHANGE come November.

Ignoring Raptor, since the first sentence was off the wall to begin with, I liked Jon Stewart's take best:

Jon: "I have faith in a god who's not so insecure he doesn't freak out if you don't mention his name enough!"

Jon did the best take on it:
http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-september-6-2012/hope-and-change
-2---democratic-platform-amendments

And he's right, the Dems have YET to "grow" a backbone!

I like the comment immediately after the video:
Quote:

It is high time the 'god' word was left out of political speeches entirely. Where was god' on 9/11, where was god in the financial meltdown? For that matter where was 'god' at Pearl Harbour and when Katrina hit New Orleans? The idea that 'god' takes an interest in the affairs of individual nations is fatuous and childish
In a nutshell.

Just to clarify, since apparently Raptor didn't WATCH the RNC, they DID call for a voice vote. Exactly like at the DNC, the voice vote was impossible to tell whether there were more Ayes than Nays. The difference is that the RNC, scripted as usual, went STRAIGHT to "2/3 majority approves..." while at the DNC, they tried for a voice vote THREE TIMES before giving up and going with the teleprompter. Small difference, but it shows the DNC was actually listening and not sure how to proceed, while the RNC didn't give a SHIT what the voice vote was, they were already scripted and followed the script.

I repeat also, there is a VAST difference, to me, between the wording of a platform (which until this year, virtually nobody ever paid attention to) and the PLANNED disenfranchisement (by changing the rules at the last minute AT ROMNEY'S BEHEST) of official delegates to a nominee. In the end, all Paul and his supporters got was a canned video; they never got to say a word.. Raptor's right that in that respect there is no comparison...

Just for clarification (AGAIN!), I DID addresss Raptor's ridiculous sentence in my last post, but either he ignored it or is incapable of grasping it. He wrote:
Quote:

Niki, it can't be both. In the first paragraph, you claim the RNC did PRECISELY THE SAME THING, and then you go on to admit that the RNC didn't even CALL for a vocal vote, at all!

I called that asinine because either he wasn't paying attention or...I don't know what. The RNC DID CALL FOR A VOCAL VOTE...that was my point in saying they did (almost) precisely the same thing. One of the only difference was the RNC overrode the vocal vote immediately, while at the DNC the speaker was confused by not being able to tell the yays from the nays, and was eventually told to go along with the intended acceptance of the yays. Don't know how out of it Raptor has to be not to grasp that, but apparently he missed it the first time, then missed it again when I explained, but then I know he wanted to snark at me again, so apparently the facts aren't important. Just made him look stupid(er). The other difference is that the DNC vote was held over inserting the word "God" and Jerusalem being the capital of Israel...neither having any impact on anything except to give the Repubs something to knock them about (which is why they backtracked no doubt--more Dems without balls), while the RNC vote was over whether to CHANGE THEIR RULES to exclude Ron Paul supporters. The latter is to me far more serious in that it is in essence denying the delegates' right to free speech, as well as changing the rules at the last minute AT ROMNEY'S BEHEST. To me that flies directly in the face of democracy...obviously not the first time, but indicative of the fact that they'll do whatever is convenient to fulfill their agenda (not letting the Ron Paul people speak).

Of course, Raptor was watching the conventions in another universe to begin with,
Quote:

The GOP ran a better convention, put out quality, diverse, positive speakers, and that's about all I could ask for. They didn't bash Obama, nearly as much as they could have, and instead chose to focus on the future.

So I guess it's natural he didn't see the vocal vote count--it made the Repubs look bad if anyone noticed it and thought about it (which obviously he didn't), so they probably omitted it in his universe.

I understood that to mean they didn't even BOTHER taking a vocal vote. I trust you can see that.

But of course, you're glossing over the ISSUE being discussed, and trying to equate vocal vote to vocal vote.

Even IF one claims one being on par w/ the other, the Dem's case is far more damaging and indicative of just how far they'll go to make things go the way THEY want them to go, while screwing over even their own delegates.

As for the Dems anti-God stance, it was barely even a reference to God at ALL, and yet they STILL wanted no part of it in their platform. All the statement said was something about 'god given talent' , or some such, and not even GOD™ in the Biblical exclusive manner.

Would the Dems have rejected it had the statement read 'Goddess given talent ' ? I wonder.

Of course, from a purely constitutional standpoint, the folks who don't want any gods in their platform are 100% correct, since there's never any mention of a god in the Constitution itself, and specific prohibitions against "religious tests".

And it used to be the GOP that wouldn't put any mention of god(s) in their platform. But that was a different era, when there were actually "reasonable" Republicans...

That's EXACTLY what the Republicans did, word for word, while hysterically, the "Dems" didn't override their delegates, the COMMITTEE did! There is no RULE regarding what the Dems voted on, but the Repubs were voting TO CHANGE THEIR RULES, and overrode their delegates.

Not even a good try, because the actual fact IS that "Even IF one claims one being on par w/ the other, the Republicans' case is far more damaging and indicative of just how far they'll go to make things go the way THEY want them to go, while screwing over even their own delegates." Just for the hell of it, here's some perspective:
Quote:

Fox News has fixated on the fact that the Democratic platform for 2012 does not mention the word "God," and used a misleading graphic that points out that the Republican platform for 2012 references "God" more often than the Democratic platform has in any of the last four election years. The graphic ignores that in 2000 and 2004, the Democratic platform contained the word "God" more times than the Republican platform in those years; moreover, the 2012 Democratic platform has a section on faith.

Fox has run several segments today highlighting how the word "God" does not appear in the 2012 Democratic platform. In one such segment, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) confronted host Bret Baier over the issue, saying that the network is "harping on a trifle" and presenting the Democrats as "godless people."

But Fox's data are incomplete: the network did not provide information on the number of times the GOP platform mentioned God in 2000, 2004, or 2008. Here's what an honest chart would look like:

Well look at that. The Democratic platform referenced God more often that the Republican platform in 2000 and 2004. And the 2008 GOP platform only mentioned God twice. http://mediamatters.org/blog/2012/09/04/dishonest-fox-graphic-god-edit
ion/189742

In other words, the whole thing is bullshit and just one more desperate attempt to find something--ANYTHING--to distract from the pathetic RNC.

It also shows how drastically the Tea Party and right-wing fringe has taken over the Republican Party. This wasn't an important matter until THIS YEAR...godless Republicans, using God as a political ploy!

This shows how far the extremists from the fringe Left wing have now taken over the Dem party. Going from 4 mentions, to 7 mentions in '04 ( Yay, USA and God! ) to 1 and finally to zero.

But not REALLY zero, as they had to pretend to NOT be as far, whack-o fringe nut case as they truly are. Still gotta appeal to those piss pot independents, huh? Or , at least LOOK like ya are.

He claims to be an atheist, and then says the Dems are under the control of extremeists.... for removing mention of God.

And he doesn't get why that's ironic!

Priceless.

Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.

And YOU don't get why the Dems are charlatans, for putting God back INTO their platform, after keeping it out initially, and then voting it out, when the delegates said 'Nay!' every bit if not louder than the 'Yeas'.
