This election should stand as proof-positive that plurality voting, and the two party system, have become monumental wastes of time and money. We'd get better leaders (more honest ones at least) if we just had a nationwide lottery. Every four years we go through this ridiculous charade, each time more embarassing than the last. There are sensible fixes for this nonsense easily within our reach and we continue to put up with it. Why??

Anybody besides me see the system as the problem? Out of nearly 300 million people, are Bush and Kerry seriously the best we can do??? I just can't accept that.

*chuckle* - well, what can I tell you. There is no such thing as democracy in the USA. Never was.

Why? Because the American people are fat, stupid, and happy. They ignore thier governments murdering, lieing, and stealing ... as long as people are fat, stupid, and happy.

Thier TVs pander to thier beliefs, so they never question. You know, CNN is just actors.

So to sum up - People are stupid.

Any other questions?

Firstly - /ignore Ghoulman on

Now that thats done hehe..
Back to the original topic:
I LOVE the idea of approval voting in principle. I think however that Big money/Interest groups could determine which candidates get on the ballots one way or the other and we'd still be in the predicament we are in today. One other thing that kind of bothers me about our electoral system is that more people don't take advantage of the ability to vote. Even if a candidate wins the "Popular" vote..did they really, when you only have about 38% of the population voting? Does that mean that 62% of the country have cast a vote of "No Confidence" for the candidates?

When I am King and Supreme Holy Emperor of the Holy American Empire, the voting won't matter. Cause I'll be Emperor. And you won't have to worry about voting.

Also, SergeantX, if more people voted, things might be different. But less than half of registered voters vote. The only people what vote are rich people who want their buddies in office and politically hyper-active commie pinko fags.

But like I said, I'll become Emperor, declare the United States the Holy American Empire, declare convert or die, drive out the pagans, commie pinkos, fags, and the rest of the heathens and liberals, and then it won't matter anymore.

There are many differnt alternatives and they've all got their strengths and weaknesses. But any one of them is better than the farce we're watching right now.

I wouldn't be so quick to /ignore Ghoulman. Methinks he's got a tighter grip on the problem than you might imagine.

^^^ Thanx.

The difference between Ghoulman and Geezer and Connerflynn and the other liars is that I'm not paid to post here.

That is, paid by the Republican party. Or FOX *chuckle* ... Happens online all day long, every day, every night.

I'm just some putz posting at lunch break. It's the difference between honesty and paid for lies.

Well, you speak truth, Ghoulman. We have a representative democracy, or alternatively, a republic. we elect folk, those folk make the governmental decisions. Because the founding fathers knew that the American people weren't smart enough to govern themselves. Just because 100 million people say a thing is good doesn't make it so. Look at fast food. And the Atkins diet. And pop music. Just because it's popular with the masses doesn't make it right. Or intelligent. In fact, being a thing that's popular with the masses is almost surefire in bringing out the dumb and the wrong.

On the other hand, it is worth recognizing that the current herd of voters was bred in captivity on a strict diet of public education/indoctrination, hamster-wheel-consumerism and media brainwashing. They know not what they do.

I reckon the death thing goes to everyone eventually. I was a card carrying member of the Libertarians for years. Best political ideology out there, IMHO. Their virtue is their drawback, however - most of them aren't willing to make the compromises that would allow them to challenge the major parties under the current system. They'd have a much better chance in a voting system that didn't prop up a two-party system.

Idea: With the major party nominations, let the opposing side vote in the presidential primaries. Let Dems vote for the Republican candidate and let Republicans vote for the Democratic candidate. Thus ensuring a more cooperative atmosphere of moderates. Either that or they'd pick the most extreme of each side, hoping to undermine the other side, resulting in a rise of third party candidates.
