Bigfoot Alaska: Bear Encounters Bigfoot And One Story About Inverted Trees
Check out this excerpt from the documentary Monsters and Mysteries In Alaska,
a Discovery network special from 2010. The focus of this segment deals with
stories from Alaskans regarding the presence of sasquatches in the immense
wilderness of the state. The first half of the video gives us an account from
an eyewitness, and the last examines the peculiar phenomena of 1000 pound
cedar trees that have been driven several feet into the ground root side up,
rumored to be the work of sasquatches according to Alaskan natives.
...
"For those of you interested in evidence or debunking of Bigfoot, look here
for plenty of good material coming soon. I will be attending the upcoming
Pacific Northwest Conference on Primal People in Richland Washington this
weekend and be bringing you reports in as timely a fashion as I am able.

"Hopefully I will be able to post from the conference, but if not I will certain-
ly bring home lots of stories and pictures and post them here for your read-
ing and viewing pleasure.

"I might even be able to work in some video.

"Among the notables speaking at the conference will be:
Bob Gimlin, of the Patterson/Gimlin film fame, the first and to date possibly
still the best evidence of Bigfoot.
Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum who has been kind enough to comment here at GT from
time to time.
And Dr Melba Ketchum, DNA expert and hopefully planning on disclosing her
results from recent samples."

Oonjerah: The Patterson-Gimlin film is old news. After all this time, it remains
controversial ... as if we're all seeing different movie. But I have a notion
about it. I plan to post that soon.

Can Anyone Strut Like Miss Patty Bigfoot?

October 20, 1967, on Bluff Creek near Orleans, CA, Roger Patterson and
Robert Gimlin made a 53 second movie of what they claim was a Bigfoot.
If you have any interest in Bigfoot, you've probably seen it. "The film has
been subjected to many attempts both to debunk and authenticate it."

In the USA, about 30% of people believe Bigfoot exists; but that, of
course, doesn't necessarily reflect a belief that the Patterson-Gimlin
film is genuine. Nevertheless, I'll go with it and say, Up to 30 of
Americans believe that Roger Patterson shot a real Bigfoot.

Why do we believers think it's real? Nevermind. That explanation is
far too long and detailed and not truly relevant to my point here.
Suffice it to say, "She sure looks real to me."

Most Bigfoot home movies look fake if they are close up, and in the
distance, they look like a blurred, featureless, gray blob. Of the
dozens of movies offered for our viewing pleasure, not one comes
close to the Patterson-Gimlin film.

Of those who disbelieve "Patty," as some call her, many will admit it
was a helluva good job! Others refer to it as a crappy, obvious fake.

If, indeed, it is such an obvious fake, it should be a simple matter,
with a bit of preparation, to duplicate Patty's debut. All I would ask
is that producers use the same make and era of camera, the same
sort of gorilla suit, i.e., one that could have been made in 1967, and
shoot the movie at the same spot.

If it's fake, was Bob Hieronimous the guy in the monkey suit? Was it,
as he says, homemade from a dark brown horse hide? Or did Patterson
buy a gorilla suit from Morris Costumes of North Carolina? If it was
me producing the movie, I'd have tried to get one of Johnny Chamber's
gorilla suits from Planet of the Apes. Or not.

I am surprised by their anatomical conclusions (not human) given how well their human model fits into the 'squatch model in several shots. I'm also skeptical that BF would just walk away from the human with a camera - this is contrary to almost all the other encounters where BF was wiley and ninja swift.

I am also less convinced because the camera was rented, this makes me suspicious.

A good point. It sort of coincides with my own long time concern: We had a couple of
cowboys riding thru the woods on horses, hunting. As experienced hunters, they'd be
riding into the wind to hide their scent. But the horses are still damn noisy, moreso
than a spooked deer.

How do these two guys manage to sneak up on an aware and alert native? They can't.

BTW, I was just going to upload the same video link, calling it "Uploaded 2011, a few

You didn't look at that, I guess, and Bill can be wordy. So I'll just offer a real clue:
He believes Patty was pretty old, a bit infirm. Does this hint that she may also be
hard of hearing?

More Munns: Winning vs Understanding

"One of the saddest things I have found in my internet forum experience is how
powerfully the 'win at all cost' mentality has poisoned most discussions, and how
few people actually feel that true understanding is the most valuable prize to win.

So these 'win at all cost' people refuse the most fundamental method of trying to
resolve disputes, and once they do, the dialogues just end up as verbal shoving
matches with no real winner."

Years before the "Patterson-Gimlin Film," I read Ivan T. Sanderson's Abominable
Snowmen.
Oddly, I never cared about Yeti living on the other side of the world.
But I was captivated by Bigfoot. I believed the long history of Indian lore though-
out the land, and I thought the story of Jacko was likely true.

So when Patty showed up on the cover of Argosy, I thought, "There she is!
There's proof!" It was the great joy of discovery!

The fact that scientists and publishers avoided this proof in droves, and that
most people came to regard Bigfoot as a joke, made little sense to me.

With his enhanced copies of the film, Bill Munns sees details that would never
have occurred to me. I think he has a sharper eye, too.

Other evidence that impresses me is the footprint casts with dermal ridges on them.
Seriously.

Bigfoot and Yeti DNA Study Gets Serious
A call is out for supposed Big Foot material so university scientists can do genetic testing =>
http://news.discovery.com/animals/big-foot-genetic-testing-120522.html

A new university-backed project aims to investigate cryptic species such as
the yeti whose existence is unproven, through genetic testing.

Researchers from Oxford University and the Lausanne Museum of Zoology
are asking anyone with a collection of cryptozoological material to submit
descriptions of it. The researchers will then ask for hair and other samples
for genetic identification.

"I'm challenging and inviting the cryptozoologists to come up with the evi-
dence instead of complaining that science is rejecting what they have to say,"
said geneticist Bryan Sykes of the University of Oxford.

European researchers are planning to use new techniques to analyze DNA that
could help crack the mystery of whether Bigfoot exists.

In a project announced this week, Oxford University and Lausanne Museum of
Zoology scientists appealed to museums, scientists and Yeti aficionados to
share hair samples thought to be from the mythical ape-like creature.

New genetic tests will be done on just a few strands of hair and should be com-
pleted within weeks. Even if the sample is judged to come from an unknown
species, scientists should be able to tell how closely it is related to other species,
including apes or humans.

THERE is your "Bigfoot", and having suspected this all along, is one of the reasons I was uninterested in helping them.

Haven't seen any here, but last year we had a Coyote hanging out down by the waterline, and this year we have a pair of Foxes who have a den in the property next to us, which is an abandoned mini-mansion now apparently overrun with raccoons.

I don't mind since the predators eat the possums, rabbits and groundhogs (which the maintanence crew hate with a passion), but they seem to have a truce or non-aggression pact with the raccons, I guess they put up a better fight or don't taste so good or something.

Universal K-9 Inc. Vies for Spot on Animal Planet's Popular Show "Finding Bigfoot" =>

SAN ANTONIO, June 1, 2012 -- /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Universal K-9 Inc., a renowned
service provider for individuals and police departments throughout the nation, is vying
for a spot on Animal Planet's hit show "Finding Bigfoot".

Universal K-9, Inc., a national trainer and supplier of drug, protection and weapons dogs
known for working with police departments across the country, has today announced
they will offer their search services to Animal Planet.

Animal Planet's hit show, "Finding Bigfoot" sees four expert Bigfoot enthusiasts travel-
ing the continental US and throughout Alaska tracking Bigfoot sightings. The team has
traveled from New York to the Pacific Northwest, the Midwest, the Deep South and even
into the Canadian wilderness following sightings. According to the four experts on the
show, Bigfoot has a strong, distinct odor and leaves large, recognizable footprints.

Using modern tools like infrared video, eyewitness reports and recordings, new lighting
techniques for night searches and volunteer search teams, the group combs North America
in hopes of finding conclusive proof that Bigfoot is real.

Universal K-9 is vying for a spot on the show in order to use their award-winning dogs
to track the creature. Police departments around the nation make use of Universal K-9's
expertly trained dogs to track and apprehend a variety of criminals by following scents,
so Bigfoot's trail should be a simple thing to follow. According to Ray Nunez of Universal
K-9, "If Bigfoot really exists, I can guarantee you, our dogs will find him!"

WooF!
And while the article reads mainly like an AD for Universal K-9, Inc.,
I'm in favor of using the dogs. I realize there would be a serious conflict
of interest: When the dogs do actually get onto Bigfoot's trail (instead of
pissing themselves under the nearest bush), APFB crew might have to
bow out, since actually finding Bigfoot needs to wait until their ratings
hit bottom.

. . . A number renowned scientists — notably George Schaller, one of the world’s
preeminent naturalists, and primatologist Jane Goodall, known for her chimpanzee
research — have publicly called for more a open-minded approach by science to
the research of Meldrum and others.

But perhaps no scientist has undergone a more dramatic transformation in terms
of that open-mindedness than Daris Swindler.

A long-time professor of anthropology at the University of Washington, Swindler
quite literally wrote the book on the comparative anatomy of man, apes and chim-
panzees. His masterwork, “An Atlas of Primate Gross Anatomy,” is considered
mandatory reading for all primate anatomists.

And for many years, Swindler was publicly adamant that Sasquatch did not and
could not exist.

“He was the required poo-poo guy when it came to anything Bigfoot,” says John
Green, a retired newspaper publisher and editor British Columbia. “If invited, he
would give the scientific comment that there simply couldn’t be any such thing.” . . .

What do you see? 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film remains a controversial subject
July 10, 2012 by Scott Sandsberry =>
http://sportsyakima.com/2012/07/what-do-you-see-1868-patterson-gimlin-
film-remains-a-controversial-subject
/

Here are some things to consider on both sides.

The story in a nutshell: PG (Patterson-Gimlin) version: Having heard of fresh
Bigfoot tracks around a new construction job in the coastal mountains of northern
California, Patterson recruited Gimlin — who had a one-ton truck with a horse van
and access to horses — to go with him to see if they could capture footage of
whatever had made them.

They searched the area on horseback for nearly three weeks before finally, on
Oct. 20, 1967, they came around a bend near a creek bed and saw the creature
long enough for Patterson, excited and flustered, to capture the shaky footage.
They made plaster casts of its footprints, then rushed to the nearest decent-
sized city, Eureka, to mail the footage home to Yakima so Patterson’s brother-
in-law, Al Deatley, could arrange for its quick development.

Bob Heironimus (BH) version: Patterson hired him to be the beast, provided the
ape suit, and gave him directions to meet them at a gas station on the edge of a
small town near the chosen filming site. He put on the suit, did the now-famous
walk and look-back over his shoulder — and drove back to Yakima. Once back
home, he showed the suit — in the back of his mother’s Buick — to a few friends
at a local tavern before Patterson and Gimlin got back to Yakima and took the suit.

Holes in the stories: . . .

Sandsberry: Even after all the interviews and research, I still don’t know
about Bigfoot’s existence -- July 17, 2012 by Scott Sandsberry =>
http://sportsyakima.com/2012/07/sandsberry-even-after-all-the-intervie

While researching an entirely unrelated story, I stumbled upon a website
on which Bigfoot ‘encounters’ were reported, chronicled and followed up on.
I thought that might make for an eye-catching offbeat story, albeit one
whose target audience primarily resided in the waiting room for the shuttle
back to the mother ship.

That was nearly 40 interviews and more than 3,000 typed column inches of notes ago.

Now I know precisely squat.

I don’t know if I believe in Bigfoot. But I’m no longer sure I don’t.

I think I have a little bit of an idea how Daris Swindler — a respected
academician, anthropologist and primate anatomist who had for years
thrown Bigfoot out with the bathwater — felt when he looked at a piece of
evidence that made sense only if Bigfoot, or something like it, actually
did exist.
===============================

Oonj: Not all the evidence for Bigfoot is anecdotal, but the huge bulk of
it is. A scientist has to throw out the anecdotal stuff; I don't. What's
left without it?

A good many footprint casts with dermal ridges & the Patterson-Gimlin film.

If anything is less convincing than the anecdotal reports, it's the hoaxes.
Many seem to feel that because there have been many Bigfoot hoaxes, this
shows the rest of the evidence to be false -- as if the two were somehow
connected. That is truly sloppy thinking.

By such reasoning, I can show that the Neanderthal man never existed. Well,
he existed for maybe 100 years in the minds of anthropologists. But in 1912,
Charles Dawson created the Piltdown man; & many anthropologists accepted
it as real. But it was exposed as a forgery in 1953.

Because Piltdown had a Neanderthal skull, disbelievers of primitive men
could say that Neanderthal never existed, and it is not true that 1,000's
of their skulls have been found in ancient caves across Europe. Indeed,
with just a wee stretch of illogic, Dawson's false Piltdown could disprove
the theory of human evolution entirely. A whole branch of science is in-
validated by one error if we don't like what that science says.

To me, the ones who believe in Bigfoot have far better evidence than those
who don't. The disbelievers I know personally have no evidence, no reason
to disbelieve. It is something they have never seriously considered. Everyone
knows that Bigfoot is like UFOs, fairies and Santa Claus. Seriously!

Everyone knows . . .

Where's the science in the search for Sasquatch? by Brian Regal =>

The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency recently issued a statement
indicating it knew of no evidence of the existence of “aquatic humanoids.”

This remarkable statement was prompted by calls from viewers of Animal Planet’s
“Mermaids: the Body Found,” which claimed such creatures exist. A swarm of
television programs, listed as “scientific” and “reality based,” perpetuate similar
pseudoscientific ideas that are gobbled up by viewers, especially kids.

This incident illustrates a dangerous trend: Viewers’ acceptance of claims made
by untrained laypeople as authoritative, and their simultaneous rejection of work
done by experts in science, history and politics . . .

Not completely sure, I think it has less to do with where they currently reside than it might where their family line hails from - mine being of west virginia backwoods origin, most of em are pretty sure there's stuff out in the boonies science has never properly explained.

That and the science-as-dogma issue rears its head too, for I was much amused by them eating more than a little crow when exessively large oarfish were documented (sea serpent) and an actual collossal squid was found despite their endless assertions of no-such-thing.

I'd be a little more skeptical if it weren't for the sheer AMOUNT of no-such-thing that Science, Pyschology, and Societal studies have tried, and often failed, to foist upon us, so count me as dubious, but acknowledging the possibility.

I have no opinion on bigfoot, but from what I've heard from a friend who frequents a cryptozoology forum, I think the people looking for bigfoot may be looking in the wrong places. They should try to narrow down what the likely food sources might be (fish?), and also consider that bigfoots may be nocturnal foragers.

31 October 2012

So the Yeti DOES exist. Scientists say so.

DNA tests show "Yeti" hair close to humans
But is it all an elaborate hoax?

http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/so-the-yeti-does-exist-scientists-s
ay-so/story-e6frfq80-1226507133971

Jason of Perth comments on the story above:
"Out of all the guides and porters I use in Nepal
two out of about 30 claim to have seen the yeti.
My good friend Bhadri, claims to have seen it twice
in 32 years of guiding parties through the Everest
region. It is considered a privilege. The other guides
and porters are in no doubt whatsoever that the
yeti exists, even though they have not seen it
themselves. They all have stories of relatives and
friends spotting the yeti. They are usually seen in
the same area of the himalayas where it is totally
uninhabitable by humans.
They speak about the creature as a matter of fact
and are quite amused that Westerners find it so
hard to believe in its existence.
Bhadri describes the
creature in detail and says he watched it one time
for about 30 seconds as it descended a mountain slope
that no creature could possibly descend. The creature
is extremely fearful of humans and will run at the first
sight or smell of people. Believe it or not."

Emphasis mine.
I find the Western skepticism arrogant, ignorant and
strangely hidebound. Looking at who's offered at the
polls to serve as our reps, looking at what's popular
on TV, looking at how they took history out of public
schools and we let them!, I will now accept that human
stupidity is infinite & enjoyed by most.

The Hunt for Bigfoot Goes High Tech

"What['s] . . . really needed was a Bigfoot hunting drone . . .

"And on Monday, Idaho State University approved the 'Falcon
Project,' a proposal by faculty professor Jeff Meldrum to build
a remote-controlled blimp to locate evidence of Bigfoot’s exist-
ence. However, the school and state research institution won’t
foot the bill, which Meldrum estimates would cost somewhere in
the ballpark of $300,000 to carry out. Instead, he plans to raise
the funds through private donations from supporters of the project.

"Of course, Meldrum doesn’t think this is a waste of time or
money. He told the Idaho Statesman: 'People say, ‘You are paid
by Idaho State and you are doing this?’ But this is legitimate
research. This could be one of the most outstanding questions
in natural history and human anthropology that we have today.'”

When I posted Bill Munn's statements about the 1967 P-G Patti film,
(May 11, fourth post from the top)
I was totally unaware that an equally famous Hollywood artist had
the opposite opinion & was just as sure of his conculsion.

From TV's "Best Evidence," season 1, Bigfoot =>
Here Jeff Meldrum, the anthropology prof who has collected 100's of
'Squatch footprints, after they have filmed an actor duplicating the
Bigfoot walk from 1967, says, "the costume that we had at our disposal
today, which was a fairly elaborate costume, paled by comparison to
the anatomical details that were evident in the Patterson-Gimlin film."

But here's the dissent:
Oscar-winning special effects & make-up master, Richard E. Smith:
"Assuming that this is a put up job, they didn't do a very good job at
it." & "I would say, this is a hoax." "big, bulky human in a suit."

Who created the suit?
"Johnny Chambers, who was the Hollywood make-up artist of much fame"
& who had done Planet of the Apes" released 1968, after the Patterson-
Gimlin film.
=====================

I have often thought that, if you're sure it's a hoax, you probably
would assume that Patti was wearing a gorilla suit from "Planet of
the Apes." But since a lotta folks are able to watch Patti and see a
really shabby suit with an obvious zipper in it ... I'd be in the
minority to credit Johnny Chambers with providing a superior suit.

Chambers' Gorillas:

Different minds, different eyes, see completely different films.
Nay sayers see a Suit, I just as certainly see a real live animal,
a nearly human animal.

But now, Oonj will prove, once and for all, but in a sexist way,
that Patti was a Bigfoot.

Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin were guys. Bob Hieronimus and all
the other people who've come forward to claim they were the guy in
the ape suit were guys. It was an all-male production.

As such put up job, Patti woulda been Patrick, a male 'Squatch.
Am I right?
But if female, Patti's breasts would have been put much higher.

This observation, made by many, is even more telling:
Patti's head is the right size. A guy in an ape suit, the head is
always too big.

Often, I criticize myself for saying Bigfoot is real. When his exis-
tence is known, they'll be hunted down. Humans are too nasty.
One thing that helps him now is our conceit; most assume he
has the intelligence of a chimp. He's close to us in brain power,
I think, but most likely, has different abilities & priorities.

Bigfoot has natural advantages that let him elude us. But we
have a bigger one: Tech, long distance viewing, spy cams.

"Run, Bigfoot, run!"

Is Bigfoot hundred's of years old, or is there a breed of wildman? If there is a breed, then you'd be able to find very clear evidence of their existence, as they'd have to enough of them to breed and survive. At least as many as Mountain Gorillas in Uganda, who are on the verge of extinction but have been clearly captured on film and seen and hunted unfortunately by lots of people.

It's a bit like the Tasmanian tiger myth, people have seen in wandering around, but there would be have to be evidence of enough of them to continue to breed. And there isn't.

Where did you look?

Have you been looking at the Just-for-Fun Zany Yowie sites?

Sept 2012 poll, "Nearly 30 percent of Americans think that Bigfoot,
also known as Sasquatch, Yeti or the Abominable Snowman is “probably”
real, according to an Angus Reid Public Opinion poll."

At least once a month, I can find a new poll on Bigfoot's credibility.
Usually, 'Squatch gets closer to 50% support in USA.

I believe in Bigfoot and can find a ton of evidence to support him.
(See the rest of this thread.)

Bigfoot skeptics can look at the same evidence (often for less than
10 seconds), and reaffirm that there is no evidence.

That's some great news, yes!

If everyone in Uganda knows where the gorillas live, then
maybe they aren't that good at avoiding human contact.

The comparison to Bigfoot doesn't hold up.

If you watched the footage, these were a subspecies of gorilla, only 300 left and the team had to search for them to find them.

UNless someone is intimating that there is only one of these man/ape creatures alive, that it is the last of its species and long lived and kind of magical to boot, then to have a race of species that live in northern california without there being a heap of evidence of their existence, ie habitat, scat, food reminants and bones is just laughable.

That footage of bigfoot is ridiculous, just plain ridiculous. It looks like its wearing shoes, and the headpiece shows a gap where the eyes are.

People want their fairytales. So good luck to them.

"People only believe what they want to believe." ~J. Knutson

MD, I know you're fairly brilliant. I suspect you're playing
Devil's Advocate.

I don't recall the author or title of this short story. It was
published post "Jaws" fervor, late 1970's.

Tom's an old sailor in his 70's who occassionally helms a
ferry when the regular helmsmen aren't unavailable.

Jeff, our protagonist, has recently moved to the city, and
on the ferry, we can glimpse a paperback copy of Peter
Benchley's "Jaws" protruding from his coat pocket.

Once in port, Jeff & his friend head for a nearby coffee
shop. After taking a booth, friend sees Tom at a nearby
table and invites him over. Introductions, chit-chat.

Tom notices the book, "Looks like that's been read quite a few
times." Jeff smiles and agrees.

Tom: Y'know, I've probably spent more time on the ocean than
you've been alive, much of it on the conn of a ship.
I've seen thousands and thousands of sharks: makos, dogfish,
hammerheads, bulls, tigers. And d'you know what? I have never
seen a great white. (pause)
D'you know what that means?

Jeff: No. What does it mean?

Tom: There aren't any! They're a myth!
He says it straight-faced, but after about 20 seconds, begins
to laugh uproariously.

Jeff starts to name a few of the reasons why we know great
white sharks are real. Failing to get a response from the
laughing helmsman, he soon subsides.

Finally Tom says: I gotta go, boys. It was nice to meet ya,
Jeff. (stands up)
And you know what else? ... The Pacific Ocean is far bigger
than any human mind can imagine. And that's just the top of it.
(exits)
=========================

Rumor has it that Bigfoots have been seen on every continent
and every US state except Hawaii.
Most commonly seen in the Pacific Northwest? From northern
California east to the Rockies and north to Alaska = ??. OK.
I calculated that once before, and it is many millions of
square miles. But nevermind.
It is quite small compared to the Pacific Ocean. But if I look at
any of these wilderness areas from the top of a mountain, Mt.
Shasta, for example, where I can see for over 100 miles in any
direction, it is huge.

How big is northern California, north of Santa Rosa where "the
woods start," civilization thins out? Not to include the Pacific
coast from Marin county south, which is mostly wooded hills sub-
ject to Bigfoot sightings. Since I know that much of northEast CA
is high desert, only scattered woods, I'll subtract that ...
leaves about 18% of the state.

Northwest California = 29,466 sq miles, 76,320 sq kilometers.

Can a large, smart animal hide in an area that small?

This assumes that all the sightings are lies or errors. These
erroneous sightings come from all areas of California that are
not heavily urbanized ... about 80% of the state. Sightings
are anecdotal and contribute nothing to the evidence.

As for hard, undeniable evidence ... there's quite a bit. But it
is much easier to say it doesn't exist than to look at it.

Magon's, I assume you've never lived in a wilderness area?

Dr. Ketchum: her paper on Bigfoot DNA has passed peer review
& will be published very soon. (I hope.)

Also Oxford-Lausanne Collateral Hominid Project seeks to shed
light on the numerous cryptid wildmen including Bigfoot. It is
headed by Dr. Bryan Sykes, a well-known geneticist and best-
selling author of The Seven Daughters of Eve.

All of this belated, scientific interest has the Bigfoot community
stimulated, and even motivated.

There are armed factions whose POV is that no one will ever accept
the reality of Sasquatch until a dead body is brought in. They're
hunting for the big guy.

Are they crazy? Of course not! ... They're just serious.

If I were a hunter these days, I'd for sure wear the neon orange

B) Obvious hoaxes ... and there have been a Bunch!

Anyone who takes hoaxes as negative evidence clearly failed
their college course in logic.

A) How elusive they are,

You're aren't going to see them unless they let you. But there
are sightings every day and some of them get reported.

Pierce county, WA, home of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, may hold
the record for reported sightings. I've mentioned this before:
The 1975 Army Corps of Engineers Manual for Washington state
lists Bigfoot/Sasquatch as fauna there.

A survey last year found that about 30% of us in the USA think
that Bigfoot is real or likely. Now British Columbia probably
has far more Bigfoots than we here ... but Canadians generally
give them less credence.

To me, the knee-jerk dismissal of Sasquatch is conformity.
"Everyone knows there is no Bigfoot." "Everyone laughs at Bigfoot."
"Bigfoot is like the Easter Bunny." Fear of ridicule can interfere
with objective thinking.

Meanwhile, the link above to the "What's Your Favorite Cryptid"

the picture.

Coming up: Bigfoot Files, Ch 4, 20 Oct 2013, 8 pm
http://www.channel4.com/tv-listings/daily/2013/10/20
ETA: See correction below for TV show.

Geneticist Bryan Sykes believes he can determine if Bigfoot is a
hominid, an ape or just a hoax. He tests the DNA of evidence he's
assembled while Mark Evans explores the story of the Yeti.

Mark Evans travels to the Himalayas to find the real story behind
the centuries-old Yeti legend.

Oonj: 1st saw this listing, thought, "Great! Channel 4 is covering
this story!" Meaning Dr. Sykes' new book, "The Quest for Yeti" ...
But this announcement ... makes it look more like a re-run. Still,
even that will warrant an update if Sykes agrees to it.

As for Sharon Hill on "Doubtful News," she remains consistent.
http://doubtfulnews.com/2013/10/first-hint-of-sykes-yeti-book/

"Seriously, “change our understanding of human history” in no way
means the Yeti is real. It could mean he discovered something very
interesting in the human genome which likely is what many of these
samples represent. But, Bigfoot blogs are oohing and aahing over
it saying it’s blockbuster. We simply do not know that. And, this
constant stream of speculation and hopefulness they have reminds
me of the last time. The Ketchum project. And we know what a circus
that turned out to be."

We do indeed.
As Dr. Sykes has shown himself an Einstein in genetics, we need not
compare him to any in a long line of Bigfoot fools & hoaxers. If he
says his findings are awesome, I believe him.

"some block-buster findings."

That was the hype.

New bear-hybrid bear-living fossil bear ... would not be about
Bigfoot or human history.

So ... the 1st part of the series goes to Tibet & gets a bear.
The 2nd part is in Russia. Dr. Meldrum did not fare well in his
trip to Russia. Part 3 is in America. I know Sykes was in touch
with established "Footers" ... but he also sat down with Justin
Smeja of the "bigfoot steak" fame. His findings will still depend
on the samples.

P.S. If part 2 centers on Igor Burtsev and his faked out Yeti
cave in Siberia, that would be a fail. "Dr." Burtsev, a self-pro-
claimed Bigfoot expert, does not have a good reputation overall.

But to the best of my knowlegde, Dr. Bryan Sykes does.
