Maine GOP Chair contends mysterious black people voted in rural towns

Out-going Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster said Thursday "In several rural Maine towns, there were dozens, dozens of black people who came in and voted on Election Day. Everybody has the right to vote, but nobody in town knows anybody that's black -- how did that happen? I don't know. We're going to find out."

Webster stood by the claim in an interview with the Portland Press Herald. "I'm not talking about 15 or 20. I'm talking hundreds," he said. "I'm not politically correct and maybe I shouldn't have said these voters were black, but anyone who suggests I have a bias toward any race or group, frankly, that's sleazy."

Tuesday, 13 November 2012 A Republican voter attempted to vote twice in Nevada during Early Voting in the state. Appropriately enough, she was quickly arrested and taking into custody by the FBI. Nevada's system of preventing double-voting at the polls worked well and efficiently. There is no word yet if the detained Republican poll challenger in New Mexico was working with the pretend "non-partisan" group calling themselves "True the Vote", a Republican-funded "voter fraud" fraudster outfit that had promised to deploy one million challengers to the polls on Tuesday in order to ferret out "Democratic voter fraud".

To date, we've not heard of any of those "million" GOP poll watchers catching even a single instance of "voter fraud", though on Tuesday, as we noted at the time, Franklin County, OH officials had rejected their applications to be poll watchers in that county after it was discovered that they had forged the signatures of volunteers on their poll watcher applications. Tuesday, November 6, 2012...An election worker in Oregon is facing a criminal investigation for allegedly altering multiple ballots to benefit Republican candidates.

Swenson, who was registered as a Republican, was accused of filling in a Republican straight ticket on ballots where voters did not specify a choice.

The Oregon Department of Justice began an investigation last week after an elections official reportedly observed ballots being altered.

“At this point, it is unclear how many ballots the employee at issue had access to, or what will be done with those ballots,” the sheriff’s office said on Monday.

After enduring two days of criticism -- much of it from members of his own party -- Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster apologized late Thursday for suggesting that groups of unknown black voters showed up at rural polling places on Election Day.

"It was my intention to talk not about race, but about perceived voting irregularities," Webster said in a written statement. "However, my comments were made without proof of wrongdoing and they had the unintended consequence of casting aspersions on an entire group of Americans. For that, I am truly sorry."

In his apology, Webster made it clear that his claim did not express the views of the party.

By the time he sent his apology, though, his comments had offended many, including people in the party. The story also was appearing on national websites, including Drudge Report, Gawker and Politico.
