BBC's words, not mine.

Quote:

A senior US security official has quit and three others are suspended after a damning report into a deadly attack on a US mission in Benghazi.

The state department said diplomatic security chief Eric Boswell resigned and three other unnamed officials had been put on administrative leave.

US envoy to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other officials were killed in the attack on 11 September.

An internal report said "grossly inadequate" security led to the deaths.

However, the report did not suggest disciplinary action be taken against any individuals.

Political fallout

"The Accountability Review Board identified the performance of four officials, three in the Bureau of the Diplomatic Security and one in the Bureau of Near East Asia Affairs," state department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said in a statement.

"The secretary has accepted Eric Boswell's decision to resign... The other three individuals have been relieved of their current duties."

US media have named one of Mr Boswell's deputies, Charlene Lamb, and Raymond Maxwell, deputy assistant secretary for the Maghreb, among those relieved of their duties.

...

Benghazi report: Key findings
There were "systematic failures at senior levels" within two bureaus of the state department, but no individual official ignored their duties
Reliance on armed "but poorly skilled" local militiamen and contract guards was "misplaced"
US personnel had "performed with courage and readiness to risk their lives to protect their colleagues in a near-impossible situation"
There was "no immediate, specific" intelligence about the 11 September attack or threats to the consulate
The Libyan government's response to the attack was "profoundly lacking"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20787086

Pretty much as predicted. Throw a few folks who are probably ready to retire under the bus, and hope everyone forgets.

I have to admit, I particularly like the concept that there were "systematic failures at senior levels" but no one ignored their duties. "Mistakes were made", perhaps?

I do have to give props to the Accountability Board for one thing. The first words in the report are a quote from George Santayana, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".

So, but for the usual "But Bush..." the Obama/Hillary/Susan Rice supporters have no comment?

Pretty common for those folks. When they can't deny, debate or in any way respond to the specifics of a situation like this, they vanish. It's really remarkable to see. Things like this, or Obama's expanding the powers which got Bush vilified to no end, or any number of issues, which don't follow the template of how the Left views the world, gets ignored. It's like a communal game of ' Where's the baby? ', as they simply hide their eyes to reality, and that makes all the stuff they don't want to see, just go away. Doesn't exist, and if it's not there, then they don't have to comment on it.

Problem solved.

Yup.

Of course, when one is desperate for something to trump up into the next "whatever-gate," such notions are far too moderate.

Yeah, I still don't know why Jamie Gorelick didn't get put on the chopping block for her role in keeping info from passing freely from one agency to another. How did DC decide to deal with her idiocy and incompetence ? By putting her ON the gorram 9-11 Commission! The insiders take care of their own.

But aside from that, Bush didn't LIE about 9-11 ( enter PN and his 10 pages worth of fantasy )

Obama's admin DID lie.

Since the election trouncing, I honestly have NO interest in this story. Only its potential election influence was important. Republicans had a shitty candidate who picked a shitty vp candidate, and neither of them could articulate a whimper against Obama about it. The election can't be undone now.

Caps or no caps, it's true. Read the gorram report. There was nothing about the video that was , in any way, connected to the attacks.

The situation in Benghazi is a symbol of the collosal fuckup that is our Libyan operation. As one of our CIA guys put it, our CIA guys were backing a group whose actual name in arabic translated as "Blacks out of Libya."

Anyway, we kill 30,000+ people in Libya, not just 4.

The other thing about Benghazi was the blatant lying. Very much like Bush, with the blatant lying. It's just all the suckers who punched a button for one or the other got emotionally invested in defending them, as if just because they pushed a button in a voting booth with the guys name on it that they were somehow responsible for everything that schmuck did.

Amen Byte. Says it all.

Let's not forget, while tossing blame around all over the place, that the Republicans cut the budget for security:
Quote:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said today that he voted to cut funding for U.S. embassy security amid political attacks from Republicans that the Obama administration did not do enough to secure the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya that was attacked last month.
Quote:

O’BRIEN: Is it true that you voted to cut the funding for embassy security?

CHAFFETZ: Absolutely. Look, we have to make priorities and choices in this country. We have — think about this — 15,000 contractors in Iraq. We have more than 6,000 ....And we’re talking about can we get two dozen or so people into Libya to help protect our forces? When you’re in tough economic times, you have to make difficult choices how to prioritize this.

For fiscal 2013, the GOP-controlled House proposed spending $1.934 billion for the State Department’s Worldwide Security Protection program — well below the $2.15?billion requested by the Obama administration. House Republicans cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. (Negotiations with the Democrat-controlled Senate restored about $88 million of the administration’s request.) Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.

[GOP vice presidential nominee Paul] Ryan, [Rep. Darrell] Issa and other House Republicans voted for an amendment in 2009 to cut $1.2 billion from State operations, including funds for 300 more diplomatic security positions. Under Ryan’s budget, non-defense discretionary spending, which includes State Department funding, would be slashed nearly 20 percent in 2014, which would translate to more than $400 million in additional cuts to embassy security. So unquestionably, yes, the government screwed up; but let's try to keep things in perspective (that's a laugh...). The GOVERNMENT screwed up; there's plenty of blame to go around on both sides.

Oh, by the way, I just spotted this:
Quote:

Among the recommendations of a highly anticipated State Department report on preventing future failures akin to the ones leading up to the Sept. 11 attack on a diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, many share a common thread: restoring GOP cuts to State’s budget.
