OK, the CPAC folks like Libertarianism. And I do respect his sincerity of belief, even as I disagree with it. But remember, it's a very long road until the 2016 elections-- Re-emphasize that- It's a VERY LONG road. Many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip.

And the Libbies are only one faction of the Republican party, and out on the extreme. I'm sure they're sincere, and Purist, even Puritain, in their philosophical beliefs, I won't waste time arguing that, and I'm sure they'll be encouraged by this tiny result, so far in advance, but can they appeal to enough voters to even win the nomination, let alone the general election?

Time, a lot of time, will tell.

When was the last time a CPAC straw poll winner won the election?

"I supported Bush in 2000 and 2004 and intellegence [sic] had very little to do with that decision." - Hero

"I was wrong" - Hero, 2012

Mitt Romney, introducing his running mate: "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan!"

Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

Well, let's see. In the 40-year history of CPAC, only two straw poll winners have gone on to become president – Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Romney won, but Rand's daddy won for the two years before that...not the best odds in the world.

To me it only shows that CPAC is the C-PAC, emphasis on the Conservative, and that they haven't smartened up any from the last election...sadly.

I'm filing it under "non-news". ;o)

And neither Reagan nor Dubya were worth a shit as conservatives. Both massively increased the debt, both relied heavily on deficit spending, both massively increased the size of the government - you know, those kinds of things that every so-called "conservative" screams, bitches, pisses and moans about if some Democrat does them. Or even if he doesn't.

CPAC...they don't get it....they still don't get it....they'll never get it. One after another, the same old red meat being tossed out to the same old crowd. Not ONE iota of eloquence from any speaker. Not ONE scintilla of charisma from the so-called new breed. Not ONE hint of inspiration or believable leadership from any of them. They all sound like John Boehner... gruff, boring, monotoned salesmen who can't sell it, couldn't sell it if their life depended on it. Gonna be the same old Karl Rove pac orgs collecting the loot, making the shitty ads, steering the Titanic-fated campaign right into the giant iceberg of failure.

Bye bye House
Bye bye Speakership
Hello Obama ownership
I think I'm a gonna cry

There goes Pelosi
With someone new
An un-checked Obama
Doin' what's 'best' for you

'Cause he's a Marxist
And anti-American too
This once great country
Will end up like Peru

Bye bye House
Bye bye Speakership
Hello Obama ownership
I think I'm a gonna die

Nice parody, even a bit funny. But you do realize that Obama will be termed out in 2016, don't you? And the Dems don't have any candidate worth talking about yet? Not that CPAC and Rove, et al, can't really blow the mid-terms and make the Republican party obsolete. BTW, I agree with most of your characterization of the speakers at CPAC- nothing but preaching to the choir...

"Even a bit funny"? You're too gracious. What the CPACers don't consider is that all their rantings and vitriol will come back to haunt them in the future.

"I agree with most of your characterization of the speakers at CPAC- nothing but preaching to the choir.."
The words I underlined... eloquence, charisma, inspiration, leadership...that's what wins the White House if the whole country believes it....they don't have the communication skills.

My opinion-- the R's have always been "power politicians"-- as in " we've got the power to do what we want, regardless" or " No, we don't have the power (the votes) to do it, so let's not even bother to talk about it. "

Makes for uninspiring, accountant-style pols, boring gray men counting beans rather than pursuing what they passionately believe.

Just my opinion, of course, and I'm sure the Dem's do it too, but from my POV not so transparently. Seems like the Dems will take off on some inspiration once in a while, do something unpopular that they think is a good idea, and keep struggling with it 'till they pull it off.

Strictly my opinion, of course, and subject to argument, but I'm not likely to change my mind.

"not so transparently" from my POV as well. Beyond that, for me the right is more willing to do whatever it takes, quite openly, whether immoral, illegal or otherwise...and they get away with it!

I KNOW there are nutcases on the left, they're just not as "out there" as much and they don't get away with their more egregious agendas. If they were, and when they are, I decry them, it's just that the right is so damned OPEN about it, it blows me away that their more rational members don't decry them. Very disheartening, that.
