.html?hpt=hp_t3

for your consideration...

The short headline in the url just says " right wing violence", which is how I read the article the first time.

I am not suggesting that ANYBODY HERE is a threat. And of course, the Aryan Brotherhood doesn't have much in common with the Republican party, the Conservative/Libertarian movement or even the Tea-Party/ Second Amendment folks. with the KKK and white supremacists, yes. Not exactly fair or accurate to lump all those folks together.

But I could see some militia group, or some individual "right wing wingnut", influenced by Donald Trump, assassinating President Obama, believing that he's not really a "legitimate " president. Or offing Hillary, or some other left winger or Democrat.

SO, how far out on the right wing fringe would someone have to be before he becomes a credible threat? How closely should we be watching those people as a real danger? How literally should we take their words when they openly advocate violence? Or are they all just theoretical, hypothetical talkers who are just shooting off their mouths and would never actually take action?

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Rap won't like this one. The idea that right-wing terrorism actually endangeres US here in America so much, so very much more than Islamist terrorism won't sit well with him at ALL. But it's been quite clear ever since Obama was elected that his election has roused fear and hatred among those groups in this country to a level that certainly I'VE never seen before.
Quote:

But the New America data shows that domestic terrorists motivated by non-jihadist ideologies now pose a similar or even greater threat than those who admire al Qaeda. We define non-jihadist terrorists to be those who carry out or aspire to carry out acts of politically motivated violence, and who fall into the following categories: right-wing extremists who oppose the government, subscribe to a neo-Nazi ideology, or oppose homosexuality or abortion; left-wing extremists; violent animal rights activists; and violent environmental activists.

Over the past several years, acts or plots of non-jihadist terrorism have derived almost entirely from right-wing extremists like the soldiers' militia in Georgia and the anti-government group in Louisiana. Of the 54 non-jihadist terrorists indicted between 2010 and 2012, 47 were right-wing extremists.

Since 9/11, at least 29 people living in the United States have been killed by right-wing extremists, while 17 have been killed by jihadist extremists, the majority of whom died in one incident: the 2009 massacre at Fort Hood, Texas.

Have to keep that article on hand for Rap's upcoming threads on how awful Islamist terrorism is here in America. For perspective, you know. ;o)

I can't answer any of your questions, I'm not sure anyone can. In my opinion we just have to live through these times in the hope that things will change and we will grow as a country over time. Certainly I think once Obama's out of office, the odds are these things will go down...not because the extremists have changed, but probably because the lack of an African American man in the Presidency will cause their fear and hatred to subside some. Obama's Presidency was perhaps a bit (or more than a bit) before its time...

If, however, they and their ilk were to get enough power in government, we might have to wait a whole lot longer for the ugliness to subside... JMHO.

NOBC, I think most if not all of them are just talking shit.

One major problem I got with this, is that just as the gun companies are selling force and fear to push a product, this little bit of bolus hearkens back to the SPLC, which has it's own "product" to push, that being more Government control/surveillence, using arbitrary and inflated threats as an excuse, as they benefit from that directly via links (of dubious legality indeed!) with DepHomeSec and other factions of the State.

Basically, if you ever wanted a mirror image of the Tea Party nutters, the SPLC is most certainly it, every bit as crazy, every bit as malicious, just on the polar opposite side of the political fence.

NOBC - I think that's EXACTLY what may be going on here, an attempt by the SPLC to provoke just that reaction and some kind of incident to justify their push for more surveillence and control.

These rightwing asshats might be dangerous, but they're incompetently dangerous, usually only to themselves(1) - not that Anarchists have much room to talk on that front since they blew more of their own people up than anyone else till they chose to throw in the towel on trying to blow shit up, of course.

And yes, I am speaking of the Southern Poverty Law Center - they have some very dubious links with DepHomeSec and their goddamn Fusion Centers, and being allowed to write and distribute some VERY distorted literature as training/intel material within those groups is only the very least of it.
Or even outright "training" those personnel and being paid with taxpayer money.
http://www.splcenter.org/what-we-do/hate-and-extremism/law-enforcement
/law-enforcement-training

Not to mention the slobbery little "relationship" between Morris and the USDOJ
http://www.judicialwatch.org/press-room/press-releases/jw-obtains-emai
ls-exposing-connections-between-doj-and-controversial-southern-policy-law-center
/
And here's the rub on that, many of the groups they list as terrorist/hate groups are simply conservative in nature, or in some fashion opposed to the political viewpoints the SPLC holds, some of which are maybe a little radical in their own right.
Folks got a right to hold unpopular opinions without being labelled as terrorists and targeted for COINTELPRO type measures, don't they ?

Well, the SPLC doesn't seem to think so.

Not to mention Dees is a total crook and currently using the place a money laundry via the caymans for political slush funds, something Harpers took them to task for back in 2000 and continues in perpetuity.

Now, once upon a time they were a force quite useful and beneficial for the civil rights push, but that has fallen by the wayside in favor of fearmongering and profiteering, side order of getting all cushy with the jackboots since their "side" is currently in power and apparently willing to look the other way for much of their legally debateable conduct.

This would be the same as if the Bush Administration had the USDOJ working directly with the Tea Party to indentify and suppress "Liberal Hate Groups" in the same fashion Hoover and the FBI once worked over Anti-War and Civil Rights protestors, you see ?

So, what I think we have here, is Dees trying to put the pressure on, rile up and provoke the rightwingnuts to do something stupid because they feel threatened and then whip up a media circus for more profit and power.
While I've no love for them rightwingnut dickheads, they got a right to believe what they like, and speak their mind about it whether we like it or no.

One should always remember that not all threats come from the other side of a political line, sometimes the greatest ones come from within because folks look the other way and are conveniently blind to their own abuses of power.

-Frem

(1) - That is, of course, barring the assistance of our so-called protectors, cause looked at from an objective view almost every terrorist incident that did real damage was helped along by them at some point, from the whole Elohim City mess and OKC to giving Ramzi Youssef a bomb and an expert to wire it...

Donald Trump? Are you fraking serious ? When the hell have the inbred, banjo playing white supremacists ever looked towards the likes of Trump to legitimaize their brand of crazy ??

More likely some "99%" loving, eco-terrorists or union goons would take the words from an elected official, like Maxine Waters who said the TEA Party conservatives can go " straight to hell ". Or how about Floyd Corkins, who had planned to shoot up the FRC , and then shove Chick-fil-A sammichs in the faces of his victims, over the phony hysteria caused by the media over Dan Cathy's comments?

The true vitriol and hate comes from the Left far more than the Right.

This is CLASSIC far Left wing antics. Amplify, or straight out fabricate an imaginary 'crisis', and then stir up hysteria over it, and try to # it into a national furor or movement.

I just want to pop in to slay the term "right wing violence." The liberal media invented this term as a way to identify conservatives with Nazis, something they had no legitimate way of doing. I've met a number of white supremacists in my day, and none of them were ideologically conservative, nor did any vote republican. They did all have very strong political views other than their bigotry, but those views fit a very firm socialist ideology. They thought Nazi Germany was just great, all around, because they believed in the socialist state, controlled collectivism and govt. control of independent citizens and corporations. These guys aren't just "racists" they have a solid political agenda which is anything but right-wing.

I still consider myself solidly in the political middle, but I think it's disingenuous to push a radical group which ostensibly falls under "enemies" into a group with your political opponents just to demonize the latter.

Also, I might as well add I think Wulfie has a point. The ideology of the mass killers is something that troubles me. In particular, I find it worrisome how many of them are ultra-zionist. I worry that some of our more vocal factions has been inciting people down a violent and counterproductive line of thinking.

DT - the fact of the matter is, it's the individuals who committed these atrocities who are broken. It's not the gun's fault. Libs wrongly think that, if we just get rid of all the guns ( about as likely as eliminating all alcohol or recreational drugs, though guns are LEGAL ) then we'd be living in a shiny, happy play land, where everyone is full of good good feelings!

Rap,

Yes, but the rallying of them into zionist holy war by the rhetoric espoused on blogs by my people's more extreme element is not altogether different from the rhetoric espoused on so called 'al qaeda' sites.

While I agree that people should be allowed to say what they want, I think it's unintelligent to not pay attention to the gathering of naive recruits by religious extremists to send them out to do violence onto the overall population.

Ergo, you can make the identical argument you just made about any suicide bomber in the muslim world, and the positions are probably analogous to our spree shooters. That doesn't mean society has no responsibility to the targeted civilian populations.

Based on... what, exactly? My confusion of comparing apples to oranges here is that we've NOT seen any uptick in real violence by these 'hate' groups. I see black on black crime sky rocket in places like Chicago, but where's the reporting of actual events which support looking at these groups more than we already have ?

Quote:

Are our spree shooters connected ,or in any way attempting to promote the same things ? What are the similar cries to 'allahu akbar ' ?

To the contrary, I don't think there's any " identical argument " here to the jihadists. Save for the lives of innocents taken.

When group A says they're going to commit violence against others, giving reasons for why they are justified in doing so, and then carries out multiple attacks, doing exactly as they claimed they'd do, you take notice.

When group B says means things about folks, but doesn't carry out any specific violent attacks, you don't treat them as you would the groups that DO commit violence. Yes, you keep an eye on them, but you don't elevate their status to the same level or even higher than those who have been violent.

You would either be telling the truth and committing a crime, or you'd be lying, as you claim you were doing earlier.

You said you were texting from your phone while driving, then tried to backtrack on the driving part. So were you driving while texting, or not? Because you've said you were and you weren't.

I know you don't think it's a lie if you believe it (Castanza logic), but do you honestly believe you both were and weren't texting while driving?

I do not "hang out with nazis" numbnuts. All you have to do to meet them is talk to people who don't have the same political ideology as you. Starting with, I don't know, say, people who didn't vote for Obama.

What I was saying was disingenuous was to conflate nazis with the right wing, thus alienating the right wing. And I did it in the other thread, conflating them with feminists, and if you'd said that, you would have had a point.

You said you were texting from your phone while driving, then tried to backtrack on the driving part. So were you driving while texting, or not? Because you've said you were and you weren't.

I know you don't think it's a lie if you believe it (Castanza logic), but do you honestly believe you both were and weren't texting while driving?

So you're not "hanging out" with Nazis and white supremacists, but you're chatting them up at least enough to glean their entire political belief spectrum and decide that it's in no way right-wing. Suuuuuuurrrrre thing, dipshit. I'm sure we all believe you on that one.

What I was saying was disingenuous was to conflate nazis with the right wing, thus alienating the right wing. And I did it in the other thread, conflating them with feminists, and if you'd said that, you would have had a point.

So it's disingenuous to equate Nazis with the right (despite so many shared beliefs by both groups), but it's TOTALLY cool for you to equate Nazis with those who want equal rights for women.

Did you have a stroke while you were gone? The crap you're posting here is even loonier than your usual line of bullshit, and far less coherent.

Nope. Not a liar. Not a pedophile either, much to your dismay. Nor am I greedy, mean, a homophobe, racist or a hater of women.

But keep on bearing false witness. It's what you do.

Mike,

Since I am openly and fairly obviously jewish, you can imagine exactly how much Nazis want to be my besties. About as much as I want them to be mine. The conversations go like this:

"Well that's about what I would expect from a jew"
"So, why do you hate jews?"

It is a pretty irrational thing, hating jews, yet it's pretty common. What makes it more curious is that they will backtrack "well, I'm not saying you're responsible for war and depression and plague..." but then they will give you their reasons, which is a list of political ideals they don't like.

Then I go to my other question, the only other thing about nazis I really wonder about "why do you like nazi germany" and they'll espouse the political ideas that they do like, and why Germany represented those, and sometimes who represented them today, and yes, I've gotten "Obama" as an answer to that, irony flying completely overhead.

The most honest answer I ever got, if anyone is interested, on why nazi germany was one guy who said "The pageantry. The parades, banners, uniforms, songs, movies, it was patriotism as an entire culture." I guess if you're really into that, I can see that yes, they did have that.

The idea that what radical feminists want is equal rights for women is as dumb as that. Abortion is not a right men have, and as it is their most important issue, then it's not an equal one, is it. Actual inequalities, as I said, are routinely ignored by feminists, even, as I just pointed out, female infanticide.

Sometimes feminists will go on about female circumcision, which I agree on, but I never see them compare it to male circumcision, or oppose that, which makes me think that this is not a human rights issue to them, but rather a chance to oppose Islam, because they are all liberal academics, so they are on the US-Israel side, and it would be embarrassing to oppose male circumcision.

My point is not everyone is standing for what they claim. They fact that feminism can be used as a weapon of genocide forecasts the certainty that those who wish to use it in such a manner try to do so, and the idiocy of some of its proponents will ensure that those trying to do so will succeed.

Can YOU understand a joke ? Or the concept of being absurd to illustrate absurdity ?

Guess not.

I used my iPhone to post a reply, made a minor error, to which I'm the ONLY one who ever does that, and if I dare to mention that it's common and how everyone else does likewise, I'm branded as a hypocrite.

I was having a bit of fun at other's hysteria, and I suppose that's not allowed here.

Tough. Deal w/ it.

Trump's obsession? So fraking what ? Did Michael Moore's obsession for W have any real effect on anyone or thing, save for making Moore a boat load of money? All Trump did was ask for the truth. Moore made up a bunch of lies and b.s., for all the good it did ( or didn't do )

Yes, all racists are inbred banjo playin' rubes. That's how I see them. Good grief Niki, do these nuts even NEED a reason to hate black people ? Nope. If they've not killed Obama by now, why would they still have it on their 'to do' list?

And if Obama didn't want this as an issue ( which I think he did ), he'd have addressed all these concerns early on, before the 1st election. That he didn't only fueled the matter all that much more. He's partly to blame, but to be honest, I think he wanted it that way, for exactly the reasons you're showing, right here. To lump any and all opposition to his election / re-election to just white folks being racists.

Mike,

I'd buy that's their argument, they always have a reason to raise prices at the pump, but I find it hard to believe that an increase in supply would *raise* the market spot for crude, it's just not logical.

The people who want the pipeline has to be whoever owns the oil at the other end of it, but it's not unheard of for competing oil companies without an interest in the find to oppose a new oil source.

I've heard it's a lot more difficult to refine the bitumen, they might want us to buy them new refineries too. And the US will probably do it because our govt. is bought and paid for, and ready to spend us into oblivion.

Notice that DT was very careful in his wording: "... but *I* never see..." And just because he hides his head from it, it doesn't exist.

It's the same argument Rappy has been using against same-sex marriage. He blusters about "10,000 years of human social history!" and then runs away so he can claim he never saw any of the valid information about how many different ways "marriage" has been defined over those 10,000 years, and between which sexes. Because if he never saw the argument, he can go on believing the bullshit he's filled his head with.

Most of the feminists I know are against genital mutilation for all. Last time I checked, "all" tends to include men as well. I say "most" because the others I know haven't mentioned it at all (it hasn't come up in conversation, believe it or not - some people CAN talk to others of the opposite sex without having to bring up genitalia!), so I can't say whether they're against it or not.

Here's what Gloria Steinem had to say about it:

Quote:

Steinem wrote the definitive article on female genital mutilation that brought the practice into the American public's consciousness. The article reports on the "75 million women suffering with the results of genital mutilation." According to Steinem, "The real reasons for genital mutilation can only be understood in the context of the patriarchy: men must control women's bodies as the means of production, and thus repress the independent power of women's sexuality." Steinem's article contains the basic arguments that would be developed by philosopher Martha Nussbaum.

On male circumcision, she commented, "These patriarchal controls limit men’s sexuality too... That’s why men are asked symbolically to submit the sexual part of themselves and their sons to patriarchal authority, which seems to be the origin of male circumcision, a practice that, even as advocates admit, is medically unnecessary 90% of the time. Speaking for myself, I stand with many brothers in eliminating that practice too."

I have zero doubt that DT will point out that the article brought up Steinem's stance on female mutilation first, thereby proving that she puts women above men in superiority; however, if she mentioned men first, would that mean she thinks women should be always placed in positions inferior to men?

Or is that just the order that the article presented her remarks?
