"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

hat-dems-bugged-m/193567

Quote:

Rush Limbaugh helped Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) accuse Democrats of bugging his Kentucky campaign headquarters, despite a report by NBC's Chuck Todd that a sweep of McConnell's campaign office found no evidence of a bug.

On April 9, Mother Jones released a recording of a meeting between McConnell and campaign aides that Mother Jones Washington Bureau Chief David Corn said was provided by an anonymous source. The recording exposed McConnell and his aides discussing how they could smear actress Ashley Judd if she decided to make a bid against McConnell by using her past struggles with depression and views on religion as lines of attack.

Following allegations by McConnell that his campaign headquarters was wiretapped by the "political left," the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was looking into how the recording was obtained. Fox News, however, embraced McConnell's baseless allegation, downplaying the audio while accusing Democrats of obtaining the recording by "bugging."

Limbaugh joined others in the right-wing media by adopting the "bugging" line during the April 10 edition of his radio show, comparing the incident to Watergate and accusing McConnell's opponents of committing a crime...

Of course, there's no evidence anyone "bugged" Yertle's office, but as the teabillies know only too well, conspiracy theories always play better than facts, and you don't need to tell the truth or present evidence when you're talking to your right-wing base.

Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

Do tell us about it.

KY DEMOCRAT: PROGRESSIVE ACTIVIST GROUP BEHIND SECRET McConnell Recording

A new report identifies two founders of Progress Kentucky as the parties responsible for recording a February 2nd strategy meeting at Senator McConnell's campaign office that was later published by Mother Jones. Breitbart News was the first site to present the possibility, based on sources close to the campaign, that the recording might have been made by placing a microphone near a back door leading to a hallway.

Was that Ashley Judd? Never knew. Pretty.

Good laugh...a factual story is presented showing clearly that there is no proof whatsoever that there ever WAS a bug, and Rap comes back with an article from BREITBART saying "present the possibility, based on sources close to the campaign, that the recording might have been made by placing a microphone near a back door leading to a hallway" as "reality".

Is he serious? What can you say?

I never knew she was on the show either. Yes, very pretty.

( There was another very cute girl Wesley almost hooked up with, but she had to go be a ruler of her people or some such. Forget which episode, but she was a darlin too. )

Let's see who has the last laugh, Niki.

These Left wing operatives knowingly recorded a closed door meeting, in the offices of a US Senator.

Go ahead, and spin it any way you'd like, but my guess is this won't end well for those who committed the act.

And let's not forget Kwickie's fairy tale version of the " facts ", where he suggested that James O'Keefe was behind some sort of false flag conspiracy of trying to fake a story by passing it off to MotherJones, to have them take the fall.

It was Libs who made the recordings, then passed off the 'story' to a Lib web site.

I expect a FULL apology for Kwickie's besmirching and trying to implicate O'Keefe in any of this.

How about from some of Rap's own favorite type of source?
Quote:

The report is that they were not in the room and therefore not a party to the conversation, but eavesdropped:

Morrison and Reilly did not attend the open house, but they told Conway they arrived later and were able to hear the meeting from the hallway.

“They were in the hallway after the, I guess after the celebration and hoopla ended, apparently these people broke for lunch and had a strategy meeting, which is, in every campaign I’ve been affiliated with, makes perfect sense,” says Conway. “One of them held the elevator, the other one did the recording and they left. That was what they told to me from them directly.”

“Apparently the gentlemen overheard the conversation and decided to record it with a phone or recording device they had in their pocket. Could’ve been an iPhone, could’ve been a Flip camera or something like that,” Conway say. http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/04/wow-bombshell-in-mcconnell-buggin
g-case
/

Or from another, less partisan source:
Quote:

Jefferson County Democratic Party Executive Committee member Jacob Conway said that neither the local nor state Democratic Party had anything to do with the recording. He told Fox’s Megyn Kelly that Shawn Reilly and Curtis Morrison overhead the conversation in a hallway and recorded it.

“...they were at the grand opening of his campaign office,” Conway said. “they were there after the event had ended, and were in the hallway and they overheard the conversation going on.”

Conway called the conversation of McConnell staffers “tasteless,” but stressed that Progress Kentucky members were wrong to record the private discussion. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/progress-kentucky-mitch-mcconnell/201
3/04/11/id/499071

Omigawsh-and-holy-shit! A couple of guys overheard a (rather slimy) conversation and recorded it, and people FROM THEIR OWN PARTY admit it and say they were wrong. ARREST THEM ALL!!

Wow. Dirty, nasty evildoers; Republicans for course would NEVER do such a thing! Oh, wait...McConnell said ""This is what you get from the political left in America," McConnell said. "Much like Nixon in Watergate, that is what the political left does these days." Nixon, Watergate...hmmmmm....

And of course it's great to take the focus off McConnell's campaign strategizing to go after Judd as "mentally unstable" because she suffered from DEPRESSION...and all the rest we heard. Riiiight...works for them!

Let's see, two guys eveasdropping record some politicians planning to publicly defame someone because they've suffered from depression, and...yeah, right, "that's what you can expect from Democrats"...

Call in the FBI! Throw 'em in jail! Republicans wouldn't be caught DEAD doing such things!!! (Let's forget about that Watergate comment, shall we?)

Fun...ny.

ETA: Posted as Rap was screeching...uhhh, Mike, did you accuse O'Keefe of something? I didn't catch that...I thought that was a snark...? Must have misread it or something.

The day Rap apologizes for ALL the things he's said and done here, including especially JUST having lied to everyone here then immediately claiming he's never lied (I like that one best), I'll look for some kind of "apology" from anyone else. The day Rap comprehends the difference between a "left-wing operatives" engaged in a Watergate conspiracy to bug a "U.S. Senator" and two guys eveasdropping on a slimeball politician...well, he never will, unless the wrongdoers are Republicans...and even then...

Rap will have to go an awful lot further than what he's so gleefully chewing on to make any hay on this one, I'm afraid. All his screaming does is try to take attention away from "Whack-a-mole"...very poorly.

Facts Niki continues to ignore.

1. It was a PRIVATE meeting. A PRIVATE conversation.

2. It was a campaign strategy meeting. Nothing the least bit was " slimy " , as all that was being discussed were the very words of Ms Judd. Hell, it's not as if they had made a tasteless and lying campaign ad, claiming Ms Judd had basically killed some guy's wife by cancelling his healthcare, allowing her to die of cancer.

Oh, that was perfectly fine though, in YOUR eyes, huh?

Keep chewing! Chew faster! Chew harder! You still won't make bubble gum out of it, Rap, but do have fun trying, by all means.

Don'tcha love how he personifies McConnell planning to take Judd down? "all that was being discussed were the very words of Ms Judd".
Quote:

"I assume most of you have played the game Whac-A-Mole? This is the Whac-A-Mole period of the campaign…when anybody sticks their head up, do them out."
Quote:

"She's clearly, this sounds extreme, but she is emotionally unbalanced," {Notice how the aide himself even says it sounds extreme? -- Chew FASTER, Rap!}
...
The aide also suggests they should go after Judd's religious beliefs with an aide saying, "She is critical…of traditional Christianity" as well as being "anti-sort-of-traditional American family."

The aide says they will go after Grimes, 34, and said the Secretary of State "definitely has a very sort of self-centered, sort of egotistical aspect." Their evidence was that Grimes "frequently" refers to herself in the third person. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/sen-mitch-mcconnell-bugged-strategizing
-ashley-judd/story?id=18914051

He should keep chewing. Maybe everyone will pay attention to what he wants, but I kinda doubt it.
Quote:

Judd's office released a statement decrying what it called the "politics of personal destruction that embody Mitch McConnell."

"We expected nothing less from Mitch McConnell and his camp than to take a personal struggle such as depression, which many Americans cope with on a daily basis, and turn it into a laughing matter," the statement said.

McConnell refused to answer reporters' questions in Kentucky this afternoon about whether an opponent's mental health or religious beliefs are fair game in a political campaign.

That's about it. And as much attention as it's worth.

Hee, hee, hee. I'm getting a kick out of how "righteous" McConnell and his people are, compared to what we now know of them.

At one point they played a tape in which Judd said
Quote:

Quote:

I still choose the God of my understanding as the God of my childhood. I have to expand my God concept from time to time, and you know particularly I enjoy native faith practices, and have a very nature-based God concept. I'd like to think I'm like St. Francis in that way. Brother Donkey, Sister Bird.

Laughter erupted again, with one guy in the meeting exclaiming, "Brother Donkey, Sister Bird!" The group didn't seem to realize that Judd was referring to well-known stories about St. Francis, who once preached a sermon to birds-—"my little sisters"—-and who referred to his own body as the "Brother Donkey." (In her book, Judd identifies herself as a Christian and often refers to church and prayer.)

With his comrades laughing about Judd's reference to donkeys and birds, the chief presenter remarked, "That's my favorite line so far. Absolute favorite one so far."

The McConnell aides, though, raised the possibility of doing more than calling attention to Judd's well-known history; they discussed how they could make her seem a true weirdo. After citing Judd's previous mental-health issues as possible campaign ammo, the meeting leader played a tape in which Judd spoke about the culture shock and blast of sensory stimulation she has sometimes experienced when returning to the United States from overseas....The McConnell aides burst out laughing ....

After running through Judd's liabilities, the group turned to Alison Lundergan Grimes, the 34-year-old Democratic secretary of the state, who was (and remains) a prospective McConnell challenger. The fellow in charge of the meeting referred to a Freedom of Information Act request filed "through a third party" that aimed to uncover damaging information about her.

With Judd's decision not to run, McConnell won't have to decide whether he must assail an opponent for being candid about her past depression or for holding religious views he can mock as unconventional in order to keep his Senate seat. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/04/mitch-mcconnell-ashley-jud
d-secret-tape-senate

I didn't pay attention to this when I heard it on the news; I must remember to thank Rap for bringing it all to my attention. I'm not at all surprised they want everyone paying attention to their having been eavesdropped on--oh, excuse me, "Nixonian tactics to bug campaign headquarters", rather than what was actually said!

ETA: Oh, my, oh, my, I've really got to leave this thread. I'm laughing too hard: "Niki approves of illegal recordings of Republicans, but if it's a Democrat... IMPEACHMENT!!"

In other words, a multi-person, paid conspiracy to break into and wire tap private offices is PRECISELY EQUAL to two guys recording something they heard through a door. NO difference...isn't his mind amazing?? No wonder he thinks the things he does, and the way he does.

Obviously Obama should be IMPEACHED for this! ...obviously... after all, he's a DEMOCRAT, right?

Wow, Rappy really is that dumb. Dumber than I ever suspected he could be, in fact.

Rappy, dipfuck, can you please show me where I claimed James O'Keefe was behind this?

I put his name in the title of the thread as a call-back. I guess it's my own fault for expecting some people here in the REAL WORLD EVENTS DISCUSSION forum to have kept up with current events over the past few years.

James O'Keefe was arrested trying to bug a United States Senator's office. Seriously, am I the only one here who remembers that?

So when McConnell starts claiming he was bugged, it strikes me as reminiscent of O'Keefe's antics. He didn't go to prison for trying to bug a U.S. Senator's office did he?

But Rappy is so fucking dumb, so ineffably stupid, that he thinks I'm saying that O'Keefe was behind this because I brought up his name.

McConnell apparently thinks Richard Nixon is behind it, by that logic.

This is like Mitt Romney's "47%" speech - it's embarrassing as hell to McConnell, so of course he's going to try to divert attention from what was said.

And of course Rappy's going to carry his water. Try to remember your kneepads, Rappy. You've been down there a lot lately.

This is like Mitt Romney's "47%" speech - it's embarrassing as hell to McConnell, so of course he's going to try to divert attention from what was said.

This is nothing remotely like Romney's comment, save for the fact that these comments and McConnells were 100% benign. This time, there was no invitation to sit in and listen to what was being said. This wasn't a fund raiser, but a private meeting, in a private office.

Oh my stars! We actually agree on something! This WASN'T in the least bit the work of James O'Keefe. Whew - it's a good thing I never claimed it was!

What I implied, and you were clearly too stupid to understand, was that when there's a Senator being allegedly "bugged", one naturally wonders about Mr. O'Keefe's whereabouts, given his past behavior.

I'm sure it was OBAMA'S FAULT. HE and Michelle community organized it, in a conspiracy with Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, and the ghost of Teddy Kennedy.

They ALL oughtta be investigated, impeached, given a fair trial, and then hung.

Why wonder any such thing ? Only YOU have made the direct connection between one and the other.

Funny, you claim that you didn't imply that O'Keefe have anything to do w/ this, but in the very next sentence, you do exactly that!

Actually, you did it again, as the thread title did it from the very start.

So, admit you're wrong, and prove to everyone that you're not a full fledged wanker.

If ya can.

You forgot the stay over in Gitmo, which Obama promised to close in his first year, then didn't.

Could not have been the ghost of Teddy Kennedy. He's too busy rotting in the Special Hell, the one they reserve for cowardly murdering drunks.
As for the rest, I don't like the hanging thing. It's too politically incorrect. A simple firing squad would be more appropriate.

But he didn't, re recorded it from afar, so he's on the hook.

While doing some follow-up research, trying to understand the sequence of events, I did come across the fact that under Kentucky law, publishing the contents of a private conversation is, in fact, a misdemeanor.

Still trying to figure out the time sequence involved: grand opening, probably ceremony, speeches, and tours, perps arrive, ( sounds like) Repubs went to lunch and a strategy meeting, Dems overheard and recorded. Not quite clear on how much time was involved, whether security was watching for guests out of bounds, whether the building was cleared.

Seems like, under law, whether or not the victims had " a reasonable expectation of privacy" is the important issue. Well, o'course they did, they wouldn't be DUMB enough to discuss this stuff on an open mic on a street corner or TV broadcast.

But my interest is this: did they take any steps to make sure that the guests from a public open house and grand opening had left?

Absolutely astonishing! Okay, so I knew Rap was kinda simple when it came to politics and nuance and stuff, but I didn't realize he was THAT simple...wow! Mike made a funny; I got it, I think we all got it. It never occurred to me he was in any way saying O'Keefe was in any way involved in this; it was a silly, SIMPLE snark...which is why I'm so amazed. Yeah, even I can still be amazed at how Rap will misunderstand something so very simple, then GNAW on it over and over and try to make some kind of "point" with it. A new low has been reached...

So anyway; coupla dumb guys (they MUST be rather dumb, or figured they could get away with it, because yes, logically it must be illegal) record something they overhear through a door (and yes, not too smart to have a loud strategy meeting there, being so brazen at an official opening when who knows who is wandering around) and pass it on to a liberal media source. No, it's actually nothing LIKE O'Keefe being caught deliberately trying to BUG an office, nor anything like a GANG of criminals under the auspices of a sitting President breaking into a private office. Remains to be seen if they get fined or something...DID O'Keefe ever get punished, was it ever proven sufficiently and did anyone press charges? I never bothered to follow up.

Mildly amusing on both sides, if you ask me, and that's about it. McConnell's embarrassed; the Dems are somewhat less embarrassed; right-wing simpletons like Rap are having a ball on the internet, and so it goes. Which is why I hadn't been back until now, to be surprised to see how desperately poor Rap is still clinging to a minor incident not too many people are even still interested in. Let him have his fun; he obviously needs it, and the desperation sneaking into his "voice" makes me sad for him. He's gonna break a tooth if he keeps chewing so hard...

ETA: NewOld, a misdemeanor, eh? That makes sense. I'm sure they had an expectation of privacy; it's his headquarters and the door was shut (they say "locked", but I seriously doubt it, given how few other precautions they took against being heard). I'd say fer shore the law was broken; fine the guys and let's move on to something more interesting...like paint drying or something...

Hey, here's something interesting. Righties wanna play "Who broke the law"? How about this:
Quote:

Two questions arose regarding the meeting – did McConnell used Legislative assistants, who are paid for by taxpayers during the campaign planning session and just who was the [Presenter] at the meeting presenting opposition research? Was it a member of McConnell’s Senate staff or, as some suggest, was it someone from Karl Rove’s American Crossroads SuperPAC, the group that put out a hit-piece on Ashley Judd – just FIVE DAYS LATER. Neither would be legal under federal law.
.....
But not to leave well enough alone, today McConnell approached the FBI to complain that his office had been bugged and his campaign spokesman compared the recording to Nazi Germany:
Quote:

“This is Gestapo kind of scare tactics and we’re not going to stand for it,” Jesse Benton told radio host Mike Huckabee on Wednesday.

Was it wrong? Sure. But to compare it to the actions of Nazi Germany is indicative of McConnell’s inability to understand equivalence or history… I would have gone with Nixonian rather than Gestapo. But that would have brought up Nixon, and McConnell, at the time of Watergate, was well into National Republican politics. It might have been a touch too close.

Today the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) asked the FBI and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics to investigate whether McConnell violated federal law and Senate rules by misusing Senate staff or resources to conduct opposition research on potential campaign opponents.

So, let’s summarize the last 48 or so hours.

•Recording of McConnell campaign strategy meeting released by Mother Jones.

•Recording indicates McConnell campaign [TeamMitch] plan on using old mental health and religions against Ashley Judd [who had not even declared she would run for McConnell’s seat].

•McConnell complains to the FBI that his office had been “bugged.”

•McConnell aide compares bugging of conference room to actions of Gestapo in Nazi Germany.

•Jefferson Democratic Party leader outs Progress Kentucky for the recording.

•Recording was an iPhone walk-by from the hall, not a “bugging of the office.”

•CREW files ethics violation complaint against McConnell.

And it is still April, 20 months before the General Election. Stay tuned. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/04/11/mcconnell-campaign-recording-h
ints-at-federal-election-law-violations/

They DID bring up Watergate earlier, but I agree with the author; having thought about it, that probably WAS too close to home; Nazis always work better. ...idiots...

This just gets funnier and funnier... Wanna keep going, Rap?

Yeah, Niki, they already wore out the "Nixonian" and Wategate comparisons.

They didn't really want to use those anyway, and keep on reminding folks which party Nixon was from.

But Gestapo? Aw, c'mon, 2 rubes from Kentucky hardly compares to an armed secret police agency of the government, which tortured people and sent millions off to execution or concentration camps. Desperation time!

BTW, McConnell is now the target of an ethics complaint, alleging that he used Senate staffers and paid time to do oppo research and plan how to go after someone who hadn't announced they were running against him. Which, it turns out, is a federal crime.

The FBI is looking into the whole thing. This could get really fun, but probably not for Yertle.

Your subtle implication was YOUR attempt to directly connect O'Keefe, by name, to the illegal recording. Merely implying that a GOP operative was some how behind this would be one thing, but you named O'Keefe , that made it specific.

Do try and keep up.

I say that, knowing full well you won't and can't.

Because this is your M.O. when you've been shown to be 100% wrong. You play the " that depends on what your definition of 'IS' is " routine, in hopes of so distorting the facts and twisting the narrative, you detract from the original point, when you clearly swung for the fences, and whiffed.
