OK, this thread doesn't maybe belong in RWED, but I think the eyes connected to the brains I'm interested in will see it here, so...

Every once in a while I encounter a work of fiction that really fucks with my reality. (Like Firefly.) If I could properly describe how this happens, it probably wouldn't happen. But I'll try.

I find myself in these circumstances over The Walking Dead. Don't get me wrong, I love GoT and all, but I started watching TWD a week ago and I'm halfway through the third season and this show is messing with my head. It's springtime and the sun is out and my life is actually pretty lovely at the moment, but for the last few days I've been walking around with the weight of the zombie apocalypse is on me. I like GoT, but I leave it behind when I go out in the world. The Walking Dead has been sticking with me. It's disturbing.

It's like what Joss said about Firefly, something about how he wanted to invade people's dreams. I haven't had a sleeping zombie dream (yet), but I can't quite get away from the spell this show casts.

Don't know where I want to go with this, except that I figure folks here are the the most likely people in my known verse to empathize.

And, please, don't spoil the end of season 3. I'm trying to hold it off as long as I can, so the wait for season 4 isn't so painful. I have 5 episodes to go...

I may have to pick it back up. I gave up by the end of S2, because I found myself rooting for the zombies because the little band of survivors are so fucking DUMB.

I've heard it got better for S3, but I'm not convinced I should try it again. Are you watching it via Netflix?

Someone in the GoT thread recommended a streaming site that I've been using.

http://streamallthis.ch/watch/the-walking-dead/

But I'm out to buy the series on DVD first chance I get.

I was entertained by the first two seasons, but season three is killing me - in a chilling yet addictive way. A friend of mine who's a writer shared this tidbit she heard at a workshop: when choosing the main character of your story, go with the one who suffers through through the worst stuff. In the case of TWD, totally true. Applies to GoT as well, though that series has no single main character.

I hate knowing exactly what will happen in a story. When writer(s) go out of bounds of expectations it can be killer, but fascinating too. I guess that's also a Jossian thing: hold your character over a volcano, and he/she will be revealed.

America loves a winner!

I tried to watch TWD, as I'd heard so much about it. Fun to see so many recognizable locations on t.v., but over all, the story didn't grab my attention all that much.

Eating people, alive? where's that get fun ?

But yeah, as mentioned here, the 'survivors' are flat out stupid as hell. Zombie apocolypse ? Why not go wandering off in the woods, alone ? Sure, no problem!

True, true - Breaking Bad fascinates me that way. I listened to the interview on "Fresh Air" with the series' creator, Zach Galligan, and he said right up front that his whole idea for the show was that you will not recognize Walter White in the last episode as the guy you met in the first episode.

And it has been a fascinating journey, but I can see that he's going to be 100% right. I don't know where the show is going, but I cannot wait for the right so I can find out.

And I know lots of people think George R.R. Martin a right bastard for killing off some of your favorite characters, or even some of the good guys. And I get that, truly I do - I hate it and I get depressed about it and it shocks me and makes me sad. And then I realize that the best shows I've ever seen all have those moments, those utterly unexpected things, those bits that just break the rules, make you sit up straight, and say "Whoa - I better pay attention, 'cause these guys might just to ANYTHING!"

Joss is famous for it. Look at the people he's killed off - characters you loved, some you just couldn't believe he'd do that to, others that made you gasp or scream.

"The Wire" was like that, too - you never felt "safe" in that show, because everybody had a target on them.

Yeah, I know GoT is going to break my heart; the trick is, to make it worth it.

In good news, HBO has announced that it is considering making HBO Go a stand-alone service for things like the Roku or other internet streaming devices, so you wouldn't have to subscribe to cable to get HBO anymore.

I gave up after four EPISODES, same reason.
(ETA: This lead to some interesting debate about the morality of arming/training kids in a zombie apocalypse, mind you)

I actually don't care for GoT, book or series - it's well done on film, less well in print, but the story goes nowhere I care about and I find all of the characters almost unilaterally despicable.

As for stuff that messes with your mind outside of context - heh, try playing the original Silent Hill, at night, in the dark, and then try to go to sleep, ha!
Not to mention you'll never feel the same way about radio static ever again.

On the funny side of that, I was walking past the park some time ago and there was this couple passing a tree, which I noted to myself looked VERY much like the trees in Animal Crossing - and then to my amusement, the girl walks up to the tree and SHAKES IT, while the guy is looking on totally mortified... oh I almost peed myself laughing, and then HAD to ask "any drops?" as they both looked at me and all three of us laughed.

There's one little bit of mindblowing which is both triumphant and sad for me, which is finally discovering Iain M Banks "Culture" series - which is based around what kinda society you'd have if you let me build it, only to find out the author is currently hanging onto life by his fingernails and preparing for his journey into the great beyond.

Meanwhile, I used to enjoy "The Big C" on Showtime, but it really started to grate on my nerves the last couple seasons, because Laura Linney's (one of my favorite actresses ever) character is just so goddamned self-absorbed and so oblivious to everything and everybody that's not her.

By the end of the most recent (don't know if it's "the last" yet or not) season, I found myself wanting to root for the cancer.

HKCAVALIER

Nothing's quite had the effect Firefly had on me. No fictional characters have ever seemed so real in that uncanny way that Mal and the rest did. It felt absolutely as if they existed somewhere, or had to exist, and those 13 episodes were windows on their lives. When the show was canceled it was like losing friends. I feel so utterly silly saying so, but that's how it was.

TWD doesn't touch that experience for me, but there is something very real about what happens in that show. Yes, the characters regularly do the most boneheaded things, illogical, counter-intuitive, thoughtless, but it works for me, because it all FEELS so plausible. It feels familiar. It just feels as if, y'know, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. Take Andrea, f'rinstance. She is the singularly biggest moron on that show but I believe every second of her. She sucks in exactly the way people so often do. And Shane, jesus, that guy, what a trainwreck! And why the fuck does Lori care about him??? And yet, of course she does. She's THAT KIND of woman.

And so on with everyone else. If the ZA started tomorrow, these would be the people we would have to endure it with. And I find that enormously compelling.

Yeah, that's it. I'm not a zombie fan, and haven't even watched the classics. (A friend pointed out how many zombie movies start in a hospital, which makes the beginning of TWD less awesome. I liked it, because I hadn't seen it before, but I can see how others would be annoyed.) The ZA genre is often just an excuse for lots of gore, which isn't my thing. It's the way the people in TWD deal with it that's so interesting. I also like how the zombies are shown to be victims to be pitied. They're not just purely anonymous monsters.

Stupid plots/characters? Hmm. I guess. There are certainly moments when the writers are a bit clumsy in getting character A together with B and C so event D can happen. But I forgive those things when a show is good enough.

You're right, HK, that this doesn't get to me near as much as Firefly! That's how I found this site - I was sitting at my old job (which was a snoozer) and couldn't stop thinking about Firefly so I had to find somewhere to be *in* it for a bit. I haven't hunted down TWD fansites. Maybe because there are more episodes to watch.

The 13 episode issue makes the Firefly addiction more severe, imo.

Anyway, off to work.

Season 3 of The Walking Dead has been the best so far. The last few episodes were amazing, and the season finale had an audience of a staggering 14 million viewers. That's twice the number that watched it the previous year. So they're in great shape, with all kinds of sponsor money available to make Season 4 even better. They'll need that extra dough to find great actors to replace the ones they killed off so unexpectedly. I hated seeing two of my favorite characters bite the dust, but it's only a tv show after all...right?

The silver lining for me is that Laurie Holden will be a guest appearing at Fla. Supercon in Miami over July 4th weekend. I've got much to discuss with her, but first I have to lose 20 pounds.

The Big C is a half-hour "dramedy" (drama-comedy) on Showtime. Laura Linney stars as a housewife who's just been diagnosed with melanoma and has been given not a very good prognosis. And the show follows her reactions to her cancer, her impending death, her chemo, her clinical trials, etc.

And it has Oliver Platt, which also makes it kind of an insta-watch for me. :)

I loved the first season or two, but I'm having a hard time garnering any enthusiasm for any upcoming seasons. To be honest, I don't know if it's coming back or cancelled.

"GoT" is Game of Thrones, HBO's huge swords-n-sorcery epic series adapted from George R.R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" series. Right now there are five books in the series, and the shortest of them is some 800 pages, with several over a thousand pages each. There are supposed to be two more books in the series, for seven total, and HBO seems quite committed to the show, basically turning each book into a season of the series.

For me, it's the best thing on TV at the moment. The casting is superb, the acting amazing, the sets, costumes, action, intrigue, plotting, twists, and betrayals are all of a caliber you'd expect from a *really good* Hollywood movie - but we get 10 hour-long episodes a season, not just a two-hour movie every few years. :)

That said, let me point out that in general I despise this genre of books. I've never met a sword-n-sorcery novel I could really stand, UNTIL I picked up Game of Thrones. As far as movies go, "Excalibur" was semi-okay (Hey, we got to see Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne, and Cíaran HInds in their first roles!) and "Monty Python & The Holy Grail" was hilarious, but only because it was such a campy send-up of the whole genre.

Game of Thrones is stunning. And amazingly well written. Several people have called Martin "America's Tolkein", and that seems rather apt (except that I love Martin's writing, and hated Tolkein's).

And if anything, the show might be even better.

Shout out to Breaking Bad. Had heard of it and always meant to watch it, finally did and it is great, totally absorbed, the previous season was possibly the best. I love the character Mike.

Yeah, it's an amazing show. There was one episode where the whole ep is done inside the huge underground meth lab, where Walt and Jesse are locked in under orders to keep making meth or else. It's tense as hell, it's an awesome one-set episode, and it seemed like it would be hell to write and act such an episode, and make it a real challenge for all involved. And I got the distinct feeling that that's exactly why they did it - because they *wanted* that challenge, and were up for it.

There was a show on HBO, "In Treatment" - I don't know how many ever saw it; Gabriel Byrne stars as a therapist, and each episode consists of him and one patient, for one session. And it aired on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of each week, and Monday would be Patient A, Tuesday would be Patient B, Wednesday would be Patient C, etc., with Friday being Paul's (the therapist played by Byrne) turn to go see HIS therapist and unload all this monumental shit that's been dumped on him all week.

Again, it was incredibly intense to watch, and you just had the feeling that everybody involved set out to make this show a place to challenge the actors and writers and really let them stretch out. I'd forgotten just how goddam good an actor Blair Underwood can be, but In Treatment reminded me.

It's hard as hell to find, there are only three seasons of it, but a typical season might have 35 episodes or so. I highly recommend it if you can track it down.

If AMC doesn't decide to screw the show again. They had record ratings the very first season - and still made them work with half the per-episode budget season 2 (thus the endlessly sitting on the farm season). Mostly so they could pay a bonus to the cast and crew of the much lower rated Mad Men.

This is a large part of why they fired Darabont - because he demanded that the budget reflect the ratings.

I actually know a few people who work on that show, and while Ive no doubt they enjoyed the challenge - those bottle episodes are always done to offset a more expensive episode.

Absolutely incredible show. I can't wait for the next (and sadly, final) batch of episodes!

And just so we're clear: It's not the characters, it's the Writers that do dumb things! I have this overwhelming feeling that they have the 5 season mandate - "stretch this thing out for 5 seasons at all costs."

I haven't read the graphic novel, which is in a way a good thing if what you say is true. Honestly, I don't want to for a while.

It's like trance music. I know trance is horribly corny and overly simple and I've had musician friends try to explain to me how artificial and lame it is, but I don't want to think too much about it because trance makes me *happy*. I want to have that happy button.

TWD maybe doesn't make me *happy*, but it is fascinating and entertaining and worth its weight in escapism. I'm going to keep that button active and not look into your very good suggestions for now. Eventually, when the spell wears out, maybe I'll explore. For now, I just want to revel in it.

Jong - bang on about season 3. I'm disappointed with where Andrea has gone (as far as episode 11, that is. I don't know after that) but everything else has totally hooked me.

Kwicko: yes and yes to everything you wrote about Game of Thrones. The show is jaw dropping. As are the books. I know, we've been over this, but it's hard not to get repetitive, huh?

I figure. I also figure I'll be reduced to tears that there are no more episodes for months, so I'm putting off finishing S3. May even rewatch a bunch to collect up the impressions before I move on.

Let's not even talk about how GoT book 6 isn't due out until 2015. Truly, there may be tears.

Huge fan of Banks, although I struggled with Excession. My favouries are 'The Player of Games', 'Inversions' and the brillian 'Use of Weapons' Did you hear that he only has a few months left to live? Very sad.

Things are a bit difficult for me in RL at the moment, so I have to be careful what I watch. Started The Walking Dead and thought it was pretty good, so may go back to it in lighter times.

I watched the first couple of seasons of GoT, but frankly I hate GRRM's guts for what he did in later novels, so don't know whether i am keen to continue.

Basically watch virtually nothing on TV these days.

Anyways, I think you'd like them very much.

As I reported in another thread, I have at least once thrown the book down and swore not to read any more. Glad I did continue. GRRM taketh, but he also giveth.

Sorry RL is tough. May I suggest blowing it all off for a while and listening to trance?

Wow, I really am being flippant tonight. Here's some more escapism: I got into a game on my ipad and joined a guild, and I've been swapping chat with my guild-pals who are, I'm guessing, various angsty technophile teenaged boys across the world. It leads to flippancy.

Really, Magons, I hope things get better. And yes, avoid TV and listen to whatever music makes you happy.

I've read to the end, but basically I feel like I am suffering from PTSD when I read it. Numb to what he does to his characters in other words.

Some other series on my list to watch when I feel better are 'Utopia' and 'Girls' (not scifi i know, but enjoyable). I also started watching a swedish series called 'Real Humans' which I enjoyed, although missed big chunks of it.

So its basically Dr Who and reruns of Harry Potter for me.

Having a weekend down at the beach with my bestie should be helpful to my mood.

Yep. I can't disagree. I'm very curious as to how he's going to continue certain things...

However, I find that no matter what happens to the characters, I just enjoy being in that world. All the different climates, lifestyles... I can picture it so clearly. (The TV show helps.) I like visiting those places. I want to know more about them.

Haven't seen any of those. May try Girls, since I did enjoy Sex and the City, at least parts of it. I hear there's a thread of similarity. Hopefully Girls doesn't turn into a fantasy of being cool and fashionable in the big city like SatC did.

Oh, Hay-ull no - any "free" site that wants my valid credit card information "just for age verification" is an instant "Hell no!" from me. Especially if it's an offshore site engaging in illegal activities.

It asked you for info? It has done no such thing to me. Weird.

Really?

Really. Seriously. I tried it under both the "Watch Now" and "Download" options, and both times it took me to a screen where it told me I had to create an account, then it wanted my credit card info. So I bailed.

I'm on a Mac and was running a Tor network, if it matters.

I don't know Tor network.

I clicked on the link that was posted in the GoT thread and went straight to the site with full access to every show I could think of looking for. Now, OK seriously, shows of which I am truly a fan will get my support and I will buy the DVDs as soon as I can. I found GoT streaming last summer and could not stop myself from watching it, but I bought the DVDs on BluRay at full price as soon as I could.

Which is to say I do feel somewhat guilty for streaming. But if it's available no other way... Other than buying all of cable, which I refuse to do. I don't want all that shit in my house.

But now I'm creeped that this streaming site let me in for some reason I'm not aware of. Yes, the internet can do that. Maybe they found a cookie of some other site I've paid for and connected to that...

I'll go look up Tor.

Tor just hides your IP address. I've just started using it because of some sensitive stuff going on with some trolls I've got that have tried to follow me home. It happens, but it's nothing I can't deal with quickly and effectively.

I'll play around with the streaming site a bit if I get a chance. I'm about to be very busy, since I'm starting a new job Monday, plus working a couple shows this weekend.

That's unfortunate.

I looked at a Tor website. It says that things like youtube won't work with it. That's annoying. Hell, I strongly disagree with the loss of anonymity that comes with the modern internet, and I still have an archaic flip phone because the tracking of every bit of data that passes through smart phones is downright creepy, but I don't like the idea of not being able to stream video or watch youtube clips.

That's a whole different thread. Is it a necessary part of the brave new techno world that we must give up our privacy? I understand that what's really going to happen is, for 99.9% of us, nothing more than advertisers being able to target their ads based on our individual browsing histories. But this seriously freaks me out.

I hate advertising. Someday I'll imagine a world where advertising suddenly fails and is no longer a viable business expense and I'll write an apocalyptic novel about it. How cool would that be, to no longer have ads? None, anywhere. But then who would bother to make TV shows? Would our economy crash to a halt? My God, would there still be a Superbowl?

Back to the point.

I hate advertising too. It gives me great joy to zap thru ads on most of the shows I watch. With today's technology of dvrs and broadcast websites, I don't know how Neilson ratings can mean anything. People watch programs at all different times and on different days. I tend to think it's all just bullshit, something artificially fudged and sustained so millions of people can still have a job.

As to our loss of privacy, I think about my generation, the baby boomers. We grew up fearful of Orwell's 1984 and all its dire imagery of an invasive government watching everything we do. The irony of it is that it's WE THE PEOPLE who have voluntarily surrendered our privacy. We tweet, we're on Facebook, etc. Our society just can't wait to let everyone know what we're doing and what we're thinking, and here's a naked picture of me and my pet goat 'cause I know that millions of people will see it when it goes viral.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Mal4

First of all I have never seen either show, so this is a shot in the dark. but ...

FWIW one of the hospital jobs I had was doing tests on people in their rooms. No matter how many wires I attached, how cold the electrodes, how important the result - if the TV was on a soap opera they were riveted by that. So producers know how to get your attention - with close-ups (maybe not so much for you, Mal4), with fraught dialogue, camera cuts that give a sense of movement even to very static scenes, emotionally involving scenes and relationships etc.

Also, I wonder if the pacing is very similar to the natural pacing of your thinking, so that it in effect hypnotizes you.

And one of the things that made Firefly VERY different from other shows is that you HAVE to watch it. In most other shows the characters explain how they feel, what they're doing, why they’re doing it, and what they expect out of their actions. You really don't need to watch. If TWD doesn't do that and you HAVE to watch it gives the show a sense of immediacy and involvement.

There's the 'train wreck' factor, most people are lookey-loos.

The show may be dealing with emotions (death, survival) you find deeply affecting.

Finally, new ideas and perspectives (which Firefly had in abundance) keep your mind focused.

So I'm not sure which if any of these apply Mal4, but perhaps they're contributing to such a deep involvement.

I find myself losing perspective quite often in response to many different situations. I find it quite QUITE helpful to take long breaks from things which have begun to distort my perspective, to gain distance and equilibrium.

Yeah, I heard Banks was on his way out, and while he mentioned trying to polish some potential future books my first reaction was hell-with-that, live it up with what you got left!

I did get Inversions, though technically not a "Culture" novel per se, and it was pretty good, first one I read in fact, and I liked Excession actually, Player of Games is a much better start to the series cause Consider Phlebas is kinda depressing - it was Use of Weapons that drove me to mild rage - if yer gonna tell me a story, tell me a story, don't try to tell me MULTIPLE stories, especially interleaved and THEN throwing in telling it backwards and adding flashbacks till I am flipping back and forth through it like some old choose-your-own-adventure novel trying to make any kind of SENSE out of that ambitious word salad, argh.

At least Matt Stover had an excuse, the events in Caines Law really DO occur (if that's even the right word since some of em get un-happed by subsequent events) in that order due to the characters being on the edge of a reality in the process of getting very broken and linear time isn't even a factor no more - but Banks got a little too far beyond the pale with that one.

Currently grinding through Matter and so far I've been more fond of the drones than the main characters, poor put-upon Unaha-Closp, the downright BRUTAL Mawhrin-Skel, bloodthirsty/snarky Skaffen-Amtiskaw (the hat thing was priceless) and the amusingly pompous and EH Torsono.

I still haven't gotten my hands on State of the Art cause muchlike Stovers Blade of Tyshalle it's a cult classic that commands ludicrous prices in physical form, and I flat will not buy E-books whatever, ESPECIALLY after the J-Manga disaster which left me laughing bitterly in the faces of those who were STUPID enough to pay real money for stuff they were never allowed to own - eff that.
(in fact there's a snide shot across the bow at that *IN* Blade of Tyshalle where Duncan mocks Hari for trusting an E-book, and shows him via his own hardcopy that the electronic version of the work they are discussing has been heavily edited)

Oh, and I feel ya about George RR Martin - that last one wasn't a novel, it was the bastard lovechild of Robert Jordan and Stephen King, eight hundred pages of FILLER which advance the plot not one iota and maybe a few story bits crammed in here and there...
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheChrisCarterEffect
We all know it's coming, don't we ?
Besides, he subscribes to the same kind of literary sadism which made me despise the whole Harry Potter mess - Potter is gonna wind up with PTSD and almost assuredly off himself, and others who went through that will similarly self-destruct so trying to sell me some kinda happy end out of that made me wanna puke.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarknessInducedAudienceApat
hy

Besides, there's not one character at all *IN* it save maybe Arya I don't find wholly despicable and she is no moral paragon herself.

Currently I am very much enjoying the World of Tanks 2nd Aviversary bash, so there's that.
This is exponentially doubled by me being VERY fond of Girls und Panzer, an Anime series with semi-direct links in both directions.

PANZER VOR!

Well, this one is not so much that I'm hypnotized when I watch it. It's more that its mood hung on around the edges for some time. I've taken a few days off from watching it and it's moved on, but it was quite odd for a few days.

Not that I was non-functional, and not that it was bad, really. I highly respect any created thing (art, music, dance, movie, TV, whatever) that can stay with me like that.

Excellent point. Most the TV/movies/sports I have on are in the background. I do other things and just check in now and then when I need to. Damned short attention span.

A perfect match of character and actor.

Claire Danes got her start as a youngster - what was she, 16 or 17? - on an MTV drama, of all things. You may have heard of it: "My So-Called Life". At the time (early 90s?), I remember it being surprisingly good, especially given the network it was on.

I just looked it up; she was 15 when the show started in '94.

I loved the first season of Homeland, but the second season might have jumped the shark for me a little bit. There were just too many of those moments that left me going "Oh, horseshit!"

Nope, I behaved myself. And moved several thousand pounds of ammo. A friend has bought an ammo franchise, apparently because he couldn't find anything heavier to sell at gun shows. A case of .45 ammo weighs around 30 pounds per 1000, and I moved somewhere north of 100,000 rounds, plus a bunch of other calibers as well. And boy are my arms tired... :)

Another bit of escapism...

Once, years ago so that I don't even really remember when, I couldn't sleep and got hooked into some movie on some random channel. It started out in real life but went somewhere else. I have never been sure if I was maybe half asleep, because it was that surreal.

Following a PM exchange with Byte that reminded me of the movie, I finally did the right google search and I found it.

If you have any interest in an amazing 1990's pre-cyberpunk movie that travels the world and enters some other bizarre place, look for "Until the End of the World". It has not been released on region 1 DVD, but I bought it to watch streaming from amazon. Yes, amazon is evil, but I needed to rediscover this movie.

And seriously: Best. Soundtrack. Ever.

If I ever find a region 1 DVD of the director's cut of this, I will be a happy person. Well, a more happy person.

Oh, Homeland isn't so bad that I won't still watch it. In fact, it's actually still pretty good. But there are some of those "Aw, c'mon!" moments that it's hard for me to look past, because they pull me right out of the show when they happen.

One or two I can get over, but when it starts becoming a regular thing, to me it's an indication of sloppy/lazy writing.

I'm a bit of a stickler for technical direction, too. If a show or movie is set in 1976, then let's don't have the hero drive an '82 Corvette. "The Americans" is a good show, but it begins in 1981, and as I'm watching I see a car go by that didn't exist until 1985, and it just made me go... "Mehhh..." The show notched down a little bit in my book right then.

I find it much easier to surrender myself to shows like Game of Thrones or Firefly. Why? Because they're not even pretending to be set in our real world. They're pure fantasy, and unapologetic about it. And once you've established that, then lots of the "rules" of the real world get tossed aside. Remember, "We live on a spaceship, dear."

Speaking of that, have you seen Primer?

I'd never heard of Primer until today, when I was reading a review about his latest movie, which the reviewer seemed to like even better than Primer. Now I must find it.

"I supported Bush in 2000 and 2004 and intellegence [sic] had very little to do with that decision." - Hero

"I was wrong" - Hero, 2012

Mitt Romney, introducing his running mate: "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan!"

Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

It's on hulu, though that might be the huluplus that you have to pay for. It's worth it, imho.

If nothing else, read the imdb page about the very unusual story behind how this movie was made. Incredible.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Primer sounds pretty good. I'll track it down.

Looks like Amazon's got it, too. $2.99 rental. Will have to put it in my watchlist.
