* It's fake? Well that figure. Trust but verify, dammit. Had to figure it might be, as no business owner in NYC would dare stand up to that tyrant. *

Quote:

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was denied a second slice of pizza today at an Italian eatery in Brooklyn.

The owners of Collegno's Pizzeria say they refused to serve him more than one piece to protest Bloomberg's proposed soda ban, which would limit the portions of soda sold in the city.

Bloomberg was having an informal working lunch with city comptroller John Liu at the time and was enraged by the embarrassing prohibition. The owners would not relent, however, and the pair were forced to decamp to another restaurant to finish their meal.

Witnesses say the situation unfolded when as the two were looking over budget documents, they realized they needed more food than originally ordered.
"Hey, could I get another pepperoni over here?" Bloomberg asked owner Antonio Benito.

"I'm sorry sir," he replied, "we can't do that. You've reached your personal slice limit."

Mayor Bloomberg, not accustomed to being challenged, assumed that the owner was joking.

"OK, that's funny," he remarked, "because of the soda thing ... No come on. I'm not kidding. I haven't eaten all morning, just send over another pepperoni."

"I'm sorry sir. We're serious," Benito insisted. "We've decided that eating more than one piece isn't healthy for you, and so we're forbidding you from doing it."

"Look jackass," Bloomberg retorted, his anger boiling, "I [censored] skipped breakfast this morning just so I could eat four slices of your pizza. Don't be a schmuck, just get back to the kitchen and bring out some [censored] pizza, okay."

"I'm sorry sir, there's nothing I can do," the owner repeated. "Maybe you could go to several restaurants and get one slice at each. At least that way you're walking. You know, burning calories."

Witnesses say a fuming Bloomberg and a bemused Liu did indeed walk down the street to a rival pizzeria , ordered another slice and finished their meeting.

The sad thing about this is, the restaurant will likely be shut down before too long. I'm sure health inspectors will find enough ' issues' to bury this guy.

Thanx, Blue, I got a good laugh out of it, too, so you get the prize for the first sputter of the morning (I won't charge you for the chai-laced keyboard). Should go to Rap I suppose, but since HE put it up as being something real, your letting us in on he and Drudge being duped is what made me sputter.

We all know Rap has limited news "sources", so this shouldn't have surprised anyone... I'll do it for you...

What makes it even funnier, is not only is it suckering so many dim-witted right wingers - it's a complete misunderstanding of what they're supposedly standing up against in the first place. Bloomberg's ban doesn't prevent multiple servings, its solely related to the size of a single serving. If they story had been that they refused to sell him an extra large slice - it would be an apt parallel - but that's not the case.

Fooled by a bullshit story.... which even if true, would have been an illustration of pure ignorance - and they're eating it up.

Priceless!

( and Storybook, again you miss the point. This IS totally believable because it's not up to the mayor to tell business what size serving or how many of something they can sell to their customers. But since you're such a good little sycophant and lover of BIG NANNY, the concept is above you.

I get that. I REALLY do! )

Which is a large part of what makes the ban so stupid. If someone still wants to drink 46oz or whatever, they'll just get multiple smaller servings. This doesn't stop anyone from doing anything, just puts an annoying speed bump in the way.

Rather than trying to ban things they should just make sure people are aware of the caloric content of these drinks, and then allow the people to decided what they want to do with their own bodies. For the record, I'm most certainly not a right-winger, if that was the implication.

South Carolina Christian School Is The Source Of The Crazy 4th Grade ‘Science’ Test

The image above has recently been making the rounds on all the social sites. I first saw it last week and it was good for a facepalm or two but I was a little suspicious, as we all should be when this sort of thing pops up in the social media nowadays. After appearing in my feed a few times it faded away and I thought nothing more of it.

Today, it was in my Snopes report email so I clicked on the link to find out if my suspicions had been correct. I was surprised to find that the image was real. And there was another page to the test. So, it became legitimate news and here we are.

The test was purported to be a 4th grade quiz from a private school in South Carolina. After some digging by Snopes and others, and a confirmation from Answers In Genesis president Ken Ham, we now know that the school is the Blue Ridge Christian Academy in the Greenville area. The whole point of the ban is to make people own up to their excess. If they want to chug a bucket-worth of soda, they can. They just have to get off their (likely fat)ass and get it a reasonable-sized serving at a time.

Im not saying its a good plan - but I at least appreciate the notion of making people look at their own habits.

Just for fun, here's the REAL story regarding this thread:
Quote:

‘No Pizza For You!’: Drudge Report Falls For Daily Currant’s Satirical Story About Mayor Bloomberg

The Daily Currant has fooled several members of the media into falling for satirical stories — from Glenn Beck and terrorist-contaminated pizza to Sarah Palin and Al Jazeera. On Friday, it fooled yet another: The Drudge Report. This time with a story about New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The Currant’s story said Bloomberg “was denied a second slice of pizza today at an Italian eatery in Brooklyn” after reaching his “personal slice limit.” It was meant to be a jab at the mayor’s effort to limit the portions of sugary drinks sold in the city.

The Drudge Report played it up thusly:

As the Atlantic Wire reported, the splash only stuck around for a few minutes, around 8 a.m. Eastern time, before someone realized the mistake and took it down. The tweet still exists.

To respond to the title on behalf of Bloomberg: Yes, it IS hilarious, thank you!

Pizmo, I could not agree more. Even when we lived in Afghanistan, '58-'61, every Afghan in the country who hadn't been here thought all Americans were rich--and we WERE, by their standards, incredibly rich.

To this day, when I walk into a supermarket I shudder...the rest of the European world at least has caught up to a degree, but we're still the Land of Incredible Excess, and our national obesity problem is the result. We have waaaaay too many choices, too much, and waaaay too much waste. So: "Amen".

Mark: That's funny...I wonder if anyone bothered to tell those idiots behind the "science" test. Or if they'd even care...

Amen to both of you. Pizmo, you understand now why I keep saying I WISH every American could travel abroad--even just to Europe (tho' it's too much like us now)--just ONCE in their lives. I think we'd be a different country if they could.

No, of course I don't blame Americans themselves, they're the symptom, not the disease. But if we all WOKE UP... yeah, well, I can dream...

For me, even contemplating (much less SEEING) the amount of food we WASTE every day makes me want to hurl. Then I go to Safeway and see them double bag three items in plastic bags and it's all I can do to keep my mouth shut. Thank gawd S.F. has OUTLAWED plastic bags (take that, Safeway!!) and now you have to pay 10 cents for a paper one. In 2007, San Francisco was the first city in the nation to ban large chain supermarkets and pharmacies from using plastic shopping bags. Now San Francisco joins 49 other cities and counties in the country that require all retailers to use only paper - or, in some cases, compostable - bags and to charge for them.

We in Marin are tapping our toes, waiting to catch up. America is the land of plenty, and we continue to be the Land of Waste, far more than any country on earth. We have this gigantic, incredibly rich country, and all we do is squander it.

Ooops, I shouldn't have gotten started. Suffice it to say I'm glad you were able to see what you did; I wish everyone was.

America consumes more water per person than any other country on earth. ( http://www.facethefactsusa.org/facts/could-fresh-water-become-scarce-u
s/
])

As a nation, Americans generate more waste than any other nation in the world with 4.5 pounds (2.04 kg) of municipal solid waste (MSW) per person per day, fifty five percent of which is contributed as residential garbage. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_in_the_United_States])

Each year, over 3.2 million tons of electronic waste is put in US landfills. Over 100 million computers, monitors, and televisions are disposed of yearly in the U.S. (Same)

Americans waste more than 40 percent of the food we produce for consumption. ( http://www.wastedfood.com/about/)

And of course those of us who are awake already know about our consumption of the world's energy, natural resources, etc...

I won't go on. We are truly the Land of Plenty...of Waste.

So should we put you on the list of Left wing tools who think it's govt's job to tell us HOW to live, to tell businesses how much soda we can be served ?

I bet you wish life were just like high school or prison, where you're told when , what to eat, and the pressures of having to decide for yourself are simply done away, by the caring, knowing, big govt nanny state.

Sig, it's not about the $$s...he would have to look at ANYTHING other than right-wing news, see? Does not compute. "If they say it, it HAS to be true."

Aaaaand he's once again shown he can't do math; nobody is saying how much soda one can buy, only what SIZE cup one can buy a single serving in. Fatties can have as many servings as they want. But that doesn't fit the narrative, so he ignores it, just like he ignores any source of news but the right.

And of course, we COULD ask who were the MANY, many assholes in government who ARE TELLING women how to live, what their children learn in school, what they can do with their own bodies, and who they can work for (if they want contraceptive coverage), and on and on and on... But again, that don't fit the tight narrative, so he wouldn't hear it.

Rap just gave us all a good laugh; given that's all he's good for, it's enough for me.

I WISH I could ignore the news that's coming from the Left, but I can't. FOX News and a handful of others are mere atolls in the vast ocean of Left wing bias in the news world.

So, you came out FOR Nanny Bloomberg, before coming out AGAINST Nannny Bloomberg ?

Got it.

And the difference here is, YOUR interpretation of telling folks how to live and the actual REAL cases of telling folks how to live vary greatly.

It's not the proper function of govt to micro manage how a business operates. Nanny B wants to control those portions in govt run properties, by all means, have at it. But to stick his nose into how people run their private businesses ? That completely crosses the line.
