Looks like there are fun times ahead...
Quote:

On July 4, Adam Kokesh hopes to lead 1,000 protesters armed with guns into Washington, D.C. to advocate for open carry. In Kokesh’s eyes, a crowd armed with guns compares to the nonviolent civil disobedience practiced by Mahatma Gandhi.

Because open carry is illegal in D.C., the police chief has already warned that “passing into the District of Columbia with firearms is a violation of the law and we’ll have to treat it as such.” Even open carry groups like Gun Owners of America are wary of the march:
Quote:

“That’s a good way to provoke something, and that’s not likely to end well,” said Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, one of the country’s most strident pro-gun groups.

Kokesh answered the Washington Post through a series of text messages:

Suppose the D.C. police, as they have promised, block the marchers from crossing into Washington? How should they respond?

“With Satyagraha,” Kokesh, 31, texted The Washington Post. That is a term used by Mahatma Gandhi to describe his strategy of nonviolent resistance to British rule in India. [...]

Did his response of “satyagraha” mean violence is unacceptable?

“Only if absolutely necessary in defense of life or limb,” he wrote. http://www.alternet.org/armed-gun-rights-leader-compares-himself-gandh
i

No, satyagraha is "a weapon of the strong; it admits of no violence under any circumstance whatsoever".
Quote:

Although Kokesh claims his march will “peacefully turn back” if confronted with “physical resistance,” he ominously warns the march will be violent if “the government chooses to make it violent.”Same

I'm sure Wulf will be there, or at least, watching on TV and cheering them on...

Niki,

Considering that its not that far away, I AM thinking of joining.

However, I have to check out the guy putting it together first.

It could get really ugly really fast.

Then again, DC could just let 10000 armed Americans walk around DC in a show of solidarity and NOT do anything...

or they could start a war. 10000 is a pretty large militia... if not a full on army.

Lets see if he can even pull this off.

Aside from a few rapes, a few drug sales, a few robberies, a few destruction of property incidents, a few police injuries, and trying to blow up a bridge, the Occutards were quite civil.

They didn't go ARMED, in direct violation of the law, and they didn't "warn" clearly, as he has, that "This will be a non-violent event, unless the government chooses to make it violent.” And they never said violence was acceptable, as he has.

That you guys can't see a difference between occupying a space nonviolently, unarmed, and marching around breaking the law with guns slung over your shoulders, is pathetic.

Even gun-rights groups know this is stupid, and this guy is infamous for self-promotion, so THEY'RE smart enough to know this is not good news, and that the only people who will join him are people itching for a fight.

We'll see IF it happens, and how it turns out if it does.

I agree that it's stupid. It's beyond stupid. This isn't a banana republic. It's reckless and dangerous, and I hope it doesn't happen. If it does, and the police have to crack a few heads or worse, so be it.

But the Occupy folks weren't always law abiding, or non-violent.

Interesting that I can google "injured at Occupy demonstration" and find plenty of reports of protestors and police injured, but when I google "injured at second amendment demonstration", not so much.

"Crack a few heads"? IF this march happens... THAT (cracking heads) won't happen.

Ever occur that maybe THE PEOPLE are sick and tired of OUR servants beating, robbing and molesting us?

This is going to be tricky. And unless this government backs right the fuck off, its going to be ugly.

I wish them well. I think that whatever happens will win support for their cause.

And if things come to worst, they will reach an understanding with the police-brutalized anarchists who they normally shun. This could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

There will be people helping you out, watching for trouble, and giving shelter and medical attention. Good luck citizens. Watch out for tear gas, kettling, and crowd dispersal.

Best case scenario: Cops on horseback escort the crowd around. We make a few speeches. Then leave peaceably.

Ok scenario: Cops form a blockade at the bridge. We make a speech. Then turn around, peaceably and leave.

Worst case scenario: Tear gas, beatings, fire fight breaks out.

WAR.

Choose your own adventure. But, we've had enough.

Too bad all the crap said about the brave patriots of the Occupy movement turned out to be propaganda. Then, you might have a point. Like most teanderthals, you have a short, selective memory, and parrot news sources that never correct their mistakes or print results of police abuses and their thorough embarrassment in the subsequent trials.

The "big government" you so revile is far more afraid of informed protesters than the gun-nuts who can't spell.

Also interesting that, per the Washington Post, most of the organizer's previous protests have been anti-Iraq war, anti Republican, and in concert with liberals.

Yup. As to googling "Second Amendment protests" and looking for injuries, that's not the "other" side of Occupy, it's a pathetic straw man. Try Googling "Injured at Tea Party" and you get plenty of hits. People gather in large groups, things happen; these guys are WARNING the government that things WILL happen if...

And yeah, "Self-promotion" being the relevant phrase, here" is right on target; this guy is into protesting, period, and he's got a new "cause"...should give an indication that it's not about his beliefs, but about his own desire to make a fuss. I just hope nobody gets hurt.

After researching the person organizing this... I won't be joining. If the NRA, the VCDL, the SAF, or even the OathKeepers had pulled this together... absolutely.

I will be cheering them on, however, and hoping things go well.

I have mixed feelings about the guy organizing this and his sincerity.

He could be sincere. Holding one set of beliefs doesn't prevent someone from holding a different set of beliefs (anti-war, pro-gun and so on).

However it could also be shameless self-promotion, or even a trap to discredit a crowd that he had no intention on helping or letting people see in a good light.

It is probably wise for Wulf as a new father to avoid getting mixed up in this until we know more.

If these knuckleheads actually parade with LOADED firearms, and break ANY LAW, what will the Police do? And it's a fair bet that just publicly carrying a loaded firearm without a Carry Permit is some sort of violation of current law. So is marching without a permit, and so is failing to disperse.

Attempt to arrest, or disperse them is what the Cops will do. And will these ARMED and LOADED bozos disperse peacefully, or submit to arrest, and sue and appeal later? NOT bloody likely.

And if EVEN ONE of them fires EVEN ONE shot at a cop, for ANY reason, what will happen, with the hundreds (maybe 1000's, given that they're talking 1000's of ARMED marchers) of SWAT cops on alert for this march?

And if it escalates AT ALL, what will the Mayor do? Call out more SWAT COPS, armed and ready. And if necessary, mobilize the ARMY.(Yes, I know he can't actually do that himself. But he'll ask for help and the Federal government, Obama AND the CONGRESS, WILL DO IT.) AND WHAT WILL THE ARMY DO?

Appear with Armored Cars, and Tanks, and if fired upon, respond with MASSIVE firepower. Anybody who thinks differently is living in FantasyLand. The Army is not going to refuse to carry out orders coming down the Chain of Command. They're NOT going to mutiny and overthrow Obama. E-T-A: And they won't take the risk of a small response. That would be a good way to get SOLDIERS killed.

These armed and loaded marchers are going to quickly run afoul of current laws and set off a bloodbath, with themselves as victims.

Not necessarily. Yes, it worries me and I think it's damned stupid, mostly because, as I mentioned, I think those who will join him are the type who MIGHT well start something. But it's also possible it'll never happen; there are serious concerns on that point, or that they'll disperse quietly (one can only hope), or even if one person fires, few will join in. Because the police are quite clear; they will meet them when they enter D.C. and tell them to disperse, because the minute they set foot in D.C. carrying a gun, they have immediately broken the law, period.

We'll have to wait and see. I'm holding a good thought.

Well, yepper,I did it again, responding to the headline and not the complete post. The DC chief of Police made his position extremely clear. Open carry is against the law-- he'll enforce it.

Meanwhile, there's a lot of stuff on the books about the right to "peacefully assemble". Carrying LOADED guns won't meet that standard at all. And you have to get a police permit to march anywhere, let alone D.C. Can't see the local cops approving this one under any circumstance.
