Democrats Are Three Times More Likely To Tell Truth Than GOP, Study Reveals

Quote:A leading media fact-checking organization rates Republicans as less trustworthy than Democrats, according to a new study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) at George Mason University. The study finds that PolitiFact.com has rated Republican claims as false three times as often as Democratic claims during President Obama’s second term. Republicans continue to get worse marks in recent weeks, despite controversies over Obama administration statements on Benghazi, the IRS and the AP. http://www.cmpa.com/media_room_press_05_28_13.html
Quote:Claims from Republican officials were labeled as “false” or “pants on fire” by a 3-to-1 margin, compared to claims from Democratic officials. Conversely, half as many Republican claims were labeled “entirely true.” An earlier study from the CMPA found the website rated the Romney campaign worse than the Obama campaign during the 2012 election. Not surprisingly, Michele Bachmann is one of the most poorly rated politicians on PolitiFact. Undoubtably, Republicans would blame this on “bias,” accusing the fact checkers of operating as little more than Democratic Party shills. “We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers,” Romney pollster Neil Newhouse famously declared last summer after the campaign got whacked for running nakedly false ads. That’s obviously baloney, but there could be some real sampling error here in what claims PolitiFact chooses to score and other problems with its relatively small sample size — 100 claims over just four months. And there are plenty of legitimate problems with the rise of dedicated fact-checking outfits. Still, PolitiFact does a pretty good job, and the numbers in the CMPA study are so overwhelming that a pattern is not hard to discern. http://www.salon.com/2013/05/28/study_republicans_are_the_less_credible_party/
Quote:Earlier this month, a poll revealed that not only did President Obama see a rise in his approval rating, a record 59% of Americans view the Republicans unfavorably. Could it be that the fact Republicans lie more is a cause of their unfavorable rating? Surely it cannot be merely a coincidence? How many lies will it take before Americans banish Republicans from the political sphere for many hear to come? If the credibility study and favorability poll are any indication, not many at all. Instead of desperately making false claims on the airwaves in an effort to hurt Obama, Republicans would be wise to abandon their agenda and work with Democrats to pass bills Americans support. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/05/29/republicans-lie-three-times-more-than-democrats/#ixzz2UhNm83p5
