"Writing for Salon, Curtis Morrison, a self-titled "liberal activist," admits to bugging Mitch McConnell's office. He claims to have been inspired by Julian Assange and claims, "If given another chance to record him, I’d do it again."

"Earlier this year, I secretly made an audio recording of Sen. Mitch McConnell, the most powerful Republican on the planet, at his campaign headquarters in Kentucky. The released portion of the recording clocks in at less than 12 minutes, but those few minutes changed my life," writes Morrison.

I leaked the recording to Mother Jones, which published it with a transcript and analysis in April, and over the days that followed, blogs and cable news shows lit up with the revelations from that one meeting. At the time, McConnell was prepping for a race against the actress Ashley Judd — it was “the Whac-a-Mole stage of the campaign,” McConnell said smugly — and the recording captures his team in some Grade-A jackassery, including plans to use Judd’s history of depression against her.

But also up for debate was the the ethics of the audio recording itself. Here’s the latest: An assistant U.S. attorney, Brian Calhoun, telephoned my attorney yesterday, asking to meet with him next Friday as charges against me are being presented to a grand jury."

I wonder what the Grand Jury will do.

Peggy Noonan called it "bad luck" in Reagan's day.

Isn't this story an old one? Is there something new that I'm missing? I didn't see any new material in the initial post. So what is the purpose in posting this story yet again, if I may inquire?

Perhaps its that the individual who made the recording not only admits to it, but says they'd gladly do it again? Just a guess.

And well, there's also this...

" An assistant U.S. attorney, Brian Calhoun, telephoned my attorney yesterday , asking to meet with him next Friday as charges against me are being presented to a grand jury."

But, was any of that ever in doubt? I remember the discussion, and there was no doubt that he made the recording, and I can't imagine anyone ever questioning whether he'd be willing to do it again...so...?

ETA: Oh, I see you edited to add more. I'm not sure I would consider that "new"; more I think I understand the desire to put up the thread, not that there is anything new to report. Maybe if there were a story about charges BEING presented, but I'm sure that will be put up as a separate thread in no time.

ETA: I just stumbled across your signature. Why do you hide it? "Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen." I actually don't think that is an accurate statement, but if it's what you believe, why do you hide it?

It's a current story because a grand jury is going to decide this week if this guy will be indicted or not. If he's indicted there will be a trial, unless he makes a plea deal. Either way it's a significant and current political story that is still evolving. It's easy to understand why Democrats want it to just go away, but it isn't going away unless the grand jury decides not to indict.

No, I don't care if it goes away or not, and you know that's not the story. I am of the opinion that you put it up, like so many, because it is a negative story about a "liberal activist", just like virtually everything else you've been putting up. I say clearly that this was a "neener, neener"--the title, and the fact that his statement that he was going to be CALLED about whether they would indict or not being at the very end of the story is pretty indicative. Why not just be honest about it?

It seems pretty obvious to me that it will be a more valid story IF they decide to indict, and you will post it again if/when that happens; beyond that, it's an old story, and a small one to boot in the greater scheme of things. You, Rap, I and everyone else knows all that, I'm pretty sure.

You really don't get what Jongs is doing, Do you?

Now just change "liberal activist" to "conservative", and we have what you do every day. Pot calling kettle black? Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander?

Gotta admit it's pretty funny you complaining about someone else doing exactly what you do.

The difference, which is what I was pointing out, is that I don't put up non-stories; I look for something which further dissects an issue, a new view or new development. Certainly I agree with everything else you've written, my partisanship is as great as Jong's. The point I was making is that this is a non-story, they HAVEN'T yet indicted him, and that there's been a phone call to discuss indicting him is the ONLY new development, is buried at the bottom, and isn't even a "development" per se. Beyond that, no argument.

Another difference is that partisan threads aren't ALL I put up, and I even put up threads negative toward Obama/Democrats/"The Left", which Jongs never does. Minor points, but valid ones. A difference in our mentality is also that I would LOVE to see the right become more rational and make any attempt at compromise; from what Jong posts, he just wants "The Left" to all die and "The Right" to have all the power. Not quite as minor a point, in my opinion.

A month-old article about lightbulbs? The fact that some redneck legislator doesn't believe in evolution? The fact that some other redneck legislator doesn't believe in evolution? And for a change, the story about some redneck legislator who doesn't believe in evolution?

You stated in another thread that you go through 10 sites every day looking for "Dose of Crazy from the Right". Most of the stuff you post isn't "...a new view or development", it's just conservative-bashing that you find on conservative-bashing sites.

Also notice you haven't had much to say about the "...new view(s) or development(s)" around the various problems the Administration has run into recently.

I most definitely did NOT! I go through about ten sites a morning looking for things to put up which people might find worth discussing, not LOOKING for crazy things from the right. They're hard to avoid, they're so insane, and I put them up as much as anything in the hope intelligent people on the right will want that to CHANGE and speak up against it, and that's a fact. I get no joy from the insanity I see more and more of all around me, but I think ignoring it is dangerous and I keep hoping you guys on the right will wise up and help create a VIABLE right wing in this country.

So it's your opinion all these people are just "rednecks", from what you say. You have a pretty low opinion of a Kentucky State Senator; as far as I can see, he's the only one mentioned in that vein. Leaving off evolution, John Stossel and Erick Erickson are NEWS contributors for the much-vaunted "fair and balanced" Fox news, as was Glenn Beck. Then there's the former Chairman of the Texas Republican Party, a pastor, a Nebraska State Senator, the Archbishop of New York (also President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), the Director of Issue Analysis for Government and Public Policy for the American Family Association, the U.S. Representative from Texas's First Congressional District, "conservative journalist" Michelle Mlkin and yup, one kook in Georgia. You have an awfully low opinion of your fellow conservatives, it would seem. I share that low opinion of people who espouse the kind of insanity they do, but that's not a list of " some redneck legislators" by any means.

The fact that the information about light bulbs is a month old means what, exactly? It's good news, it's a real world development; we have a time limit?? I also wasn't aware CNN, Time, Christian Science Monitor, BBC and others were "conservative-bashing sites". I think your perspective might be a bit prejudiced there.

Why would I bother with the "scandals" you guys are enjoying with so much glee? Obviously there's already more than enough being put up on them every day, multiple times in multiple threads. To slam me for not putting up MORE of it is really weak, or worse.
