Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama... all these guys meant (in the last case, MEAN) well for this country. And all these guys were (is) subject to the information fed to them by idiots that by their very positions in government could and can not be seen as supplying incomplete, or incorrect intel. Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence. Whether it's bigger government, smaller government, regulation, de-regulation, taxes, tax cuts, torture or signature strikes- they all just do the best with the incomprehensible mess they are handed. We all make the mistake of thinking 'experts' and 'lawyers' are fit to run this world. A POTUS is like a CEO, that is, basically clueless concerning the real world workings of that which he or she is in charge.
The semi-United Corporation of America.
Could YOU do better? Not once inserted into the cocoon of deception.

"There are Presidents I remember

All my life, though some have changed

Some forever not for better

Some have gone and some remain

All these Presidents have their moments

With enemies and friends I still can recall

Some are dead and some are living

In my life I've lived through them all

But of all these good guy Presidents

There is no one who with eagles flew

And these memories lose their meaning

When I think of politics as something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection

For Presidents and times that went before

I know I'll often stop and think about them

In my life I love Galactica more"

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

I'm sure Bush thought his tax cuts would usher in a new age of prosperity for America. I'm sure he thought that in Iraq we would be greeted as 'liberators'.

You're absolutely right Chris, but it's not 'bad guys' we should be worried about, it's ideologues and fools.

It's not personal. It's just war.

True, it's like what Adam said about Jayne, "Everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story."

That said... I don't like any of the Presidents.

35 years this September! Thinking about 1978 brings back a lot of great memories.

Amen. But I would also add those who have their own agenda (like lobbyists) and who are NOT doing it for the good of anyone but themselves and those for whom they work. Presidents are vulnerable to being made/convinced to ACT like bad guys by others whose intentions are not honorable. Those don't come under the heading of ideologues OR fools, unfortunately.

I guess I can't really claim to remember them as an adult, but I also remember the Presidencies of JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Jerry Ford pretty well. I was in the 11th grade when Lyndon decided not to run, but his and Nixon's war/draft policies certainly had an effect on the very beginngs of my adult life.

And I can remember my Dad, a man I revere pretty much, speaking of FDR in terms that suggested that he was the Messiah that Rap claims we think Obama is; and of "poor little Harry Truman" as a guy just like himself and me, beaten down by the powers that be.

So there are some really great men there, and some not so much, and some who did bad things, MAYBE with the intention of doing good.

Beautiful! I guess you had a reason to sell it. Next time let me know and we can meet in that dusty frontier town of Serenity to do a trade. The new Sheriff has worked hard to make it a safe place.
