Obama says shouldn't have to talk to Xi, Putin about Snowden

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Thursday he had not yet spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping or Russian President Vladimir Putin about the U.S. request to extradite former American spy agency contractor Edward Snowden.

Speaking at a news conference in Senegal at the start of an African tour, Obama said normal legal channels should be sufficient to handle Washington's request that Snowden, who left Hong Kong for Russia, be returned.

"I have not called President Xi personally or President Putin personally and the reason is...number one, I shouldn't have to," Obama said.

"Number two, we've got a whole lot of business that we do with China and Russia, and I'm not going to have one case of a suspect who we're trying to extradite suddenly being elevated to the point where I've got to start doing wheeling and dealing and trading on a whole host of other issues," Obama said.

Snowden has become an embarrassment for the Obama administration after he leaked details of secret U.S. government surveillance programs.

His fate is now the focus of an international wrangle pitting the United States against its frequent opponents in the U.N. Security Council, China and Russia.

Obama is in way over his head. He's naive, arrogant and clueless on how to deal w/ other countries. He said, before the '08 election, he'd have no PROBLEM calling our enemies and talking to the leaders personally. But here ? Meh. He's too busy.

( Although he has no problem finding time to call the likes of Sandra Fluke, Jason Collins or or Detroit's Mark Buehrle , after he pitched a perfect game. )

Seriously, Barack sounds like a whiny little brat, being told to go brush his teeth before bedtime.

Yes, because calling those folks is exactly like calling a head of state.

In Obama's mind, they are more important . FYI , obama is also a head of state. He should start acting like it.

Heads of state don't call each other for issues lower level diplomates should be handling. Such as legal requests. He is very much acting like a head of state.

I am glad that you can now read the president's mind.

When USA criminals cross a border into Canada or Mexico the USA President does not make a phone call begging for the criminals return, please, pretty please. Obama was diplomatically calling Putin a little prick for not returning Snowden. Putin thinks himself a big prick. The Federation Council – the Russian Duma’s upper house – has set up a special committee to investigate NSA spying in Russia, and has invited Snowden to testify. The committee would like Snowden to inform it of the extent to which Google and Facebook are involved. www.csmonitor.com/World/Europe/2013/0628/Russia-debates-letting-Snowde

Didn't Putin see Barry in "Whitehouse Down"? When he does he'll hand over Snowden right away.

Snowden is no mere 'criminal'. He may very well have the goods on the USA's info gathering capabilities, and dropped it in the laps of our enemies. OR, this could all be one giant ruse. Who knows ? Point is, Obama's childish answer could have been something simple, direct, and to the point, w/ out even approaching the specifics of how he's dealing w/ other nations.

He's got a simple mind to read, actually. But his answer alone shows he's still not fit for the job, and is completely in over his head.

The only state he's acting like the head of is one of confusion.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Has it not occurred to anyone that Obama really isn't that concerned or worried about Edward Snowden? He says he doesn't need to call the Russian president or the Chinese premier, and he says he doesn't really see any upside in scrambling military interceptors to chase down whatever commercial flight Snowden might be on.

Sounds to me like he's not losing a lot of sleep over it.

Should he be? Should he be launching armed drone strikes aimed at taking Snowden out?

Obama isn't losing any sleep over Snowden because he's doing Obama a huge favor.

Helping destroy America.
