I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.
Quote:More than six in 10 Americans, or 63%, disapprove of the way the GOP is handling the budget impasse that could force the first government shutdown in 17 years, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll.

Quote:Unfortunately for Republicans, early polling on the government shutdown does not favor their strategy. A Quinnipiac University National Poll released Tuesday morning shows that by a margin of 72 percent to 22 percent, American voters oppose a government shutdown over attempts to block the Affordable Care Act. And though voters are divided on the law itself, 58 percent of those surveyed said they opposed cutting off funding a way to stop it from being implemented. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57605453/blame-game-starts-with-no-end-in-sight-for-government-shutdown/]
Quote:Of those surveyed, 72 percent said they opposed shutting down the government to block the funding of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Another 64 percent said they opposed blocking an increase in the debt ceiling to avoid default. The Congressional approval rating for the GOP is the lowest it has ever been, with 74 percent disapproval. Democrats have an approval rating of 60 percent. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/politics/poll-shows-voters-blame-republicans-government-shutdown#]
Quote:More than six in 10 Americans, or 63%, disapprove of the way the GOP is handling the budget impasse that could force the first government shutdown in 17 years, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll. In a CNN/ORC poll, 69% of Americans say Republicans are acting like "spoiled children" in the budget showdown. Obama does the best when it comes to acting like a "responsible adult" in the CNN/ORC poll: 49% of Americans choose that phrase to describe his behavior. Only one in four Americans say Republicans are acting responsibly. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/09/30/government-shutdown-blame-republicans-polls/2897197/]
Quote:...most readers are expressing disbelief at the dysfunction in Washington. As with the nearly month-long shutdown in the 1990s during the Clinton administration, most are blaming members of Congress for this mess, not the president. Carol J. Smith of Cerritos: "I was a federal employee during the 1995-96 federal government shutdown, during which the employees and the bills of our federal government went unpaid. Most people are unaware of the terrible cost that was paid by many federal workers during the total of 28 days that their wages were withheld. "Thousands of federal employees work at low salaries and keep the everyday work of the federal government running. These employees live paycheck-to-paycheck and have few resources to fall back on when their salaries are held hostage to politics in Congress. Since their services are essential for the operation of the federal government, many of them were not furloughed during the shutdown but instead were required to continue to work without pay. "For members of Congress, the only thing that is essential is winning at politics. And they can continue to receive their salaries during a shutdown." Redondo Beach resident Steve Stillman: "Instead of passing a bill to delay the Affordable Care Act, House Republicans should pass a bill requiring our armed forces to nuke it. "Sound stupid? Well so does shutting down the government and wrecking our economy." Jeff Pollak of La Crescenta: "Are we absolutely sure that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was talking about the Dodgers when he complained about a 'no-class act by a bunch of overpaid, immature, arrogant, spoiled brats'? "Seems to me his fellow Republicans in the House of Representatives fit the description much better than some overly exuberant ballplayers." http://www.latimes.com/opinion/la-ol-government-shutdown-mailbag-20130930,0,5231531.story

Dueling stats. This is all about Obamacare. Personally, I think the Republicans are behaving like spoiled children. Even with heavy gerrymadering of voting districts by the Repubs, they couldn't get their way through the Presidential election and the many Congressional votes, and what they're REALLY afraid of is that people will learn more about Obamacare and actually like it. So they're actually trying to thwart what even THEY enivision as "the will of the people". I think everyone here knows I dislike Obamacare, but it needs to be improved, not destroyed, because our healthcare system was a complete clusterfuck before, and the Repubs have not offered any options except to continue the clusterfuck.

So I did my little on-line application, but when it came to setting up the auto-pay feature, it crashed. Then their system got overloaded big time and the whole THING crashed. In order to get it in under the deadline, I had to fill out a paper form, scan and e-mail it to my rep and she faxed it to Aetna. They were that inundated by people trying to sign up the first day of Obamacare! And yes, Ezra Klein said exactly what you did:

He is not even calling for a temporary shutdown to address hundreds of F-35 engineering problems. So I'm actually not sure how much really is shut down. It could just be the postal service got it to them because it was sent before the shut down - they really live in the boondocks, so it can take a while for them to get anything. Postal Service is independently funded.
