The race for attorney general in Virginia was very close. Last week an issue developed surrounding provisional ballots that were cast in Fairfax County, a heavily Democratic area ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/possible-discrep

). In response, the Republican controlled State Board of Elections has issued a controversial ruling. One clearly designed to hand the race to the Republican.

How did this come about? On Friday the Fairfax County Electoral Board discovered that there were thousands of votes which had not been included in the final tally ( http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news/2013/electoral-board-statement-elect
ion-nov-9-2013.htm
).

Local election boards are now counting provisional ballots, cast by people without ID or in the wrong polling place, and canvassing the returns looking for any possible errors. One oddity was flagged in Fairfax County by the political team of Rep. Gerald E. Connolly (D-Va.).

According to state numbers, Fairfax reported an unexplainably lower number of absentee ballots cast in the 8th District than in the other two congressional districts.

The county keeps track of how many voters request absentee ballots as well as the number who actually turn them in. In the 10th District, 88 percent of voters who requested a ballot actually voted, while 86 percent did so in the 11th District.

But in the 8th District, the state board shows that only 50 percent of those who requested ballots — 4,168 out of 8,363 requests — actually cast ballots, a response rate not only lower than the other portions of Fairfax County, but lower than any other congressional district in the state, according to the Connolly campaign. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/possible-discrep

So what happened?
Quote:

The state Electoral Board decided Friday to change the rules that had been followed in Fairfax County and ban legal representatives from stepping in to help get the ballot counted, unless the voter him or herself is there.

County Electoral Board Secretary Brian Shoeneman says he and board chairman Seth Stark disagree with the ruling, but they have to comply. Election officials in Fairfax County say they have allowed the representation for years and only stopped it because of the memo sent out Friday. Memo at http://www.wtop.com/41/3501230/Provisional-ballot-voters-in-Va-face-ne
w-obstacle

So in other words, the state elections board released a statement on Saturday after DECIDING on Friday (three days AFTER the election) to change the rules that had been followed in Fairfax County and ban legal representatives from stepping in to help get the ballot counted, unless the voter him or herself is there.

Now the board says that if legal representatives are present, the voters who cast the ballots must also be present. In other words, those voters have to come back a second time. That’s assuming they even know they’re supposed to come back, which they weren't told at the time they voted.

Who is Virginia’s current attorney general? The just-defeated GOP candidate for governor, Ken Cuccinelli. Nothing to see here, Virginia. Move along.

Of course if Fairfax County was heavily Republican instead of heavily Democratic, you'd be posting an article about how those ballots were "conveniently" found when the Republicans needed votes.

BullSHIT. You're not biased, nah, obviously. So let's be clear: You're saying you have no problem with election officials changing the rules AFTER an election, is that right? Without informing the voters, changing a long-standing practice out of the blue; this is fine with you. Got it. I wonder how you'd react if it was the Democrats who did this...no, I take that back; neither I nor anyone here has to wonder, we KNOW.

At least I'm honest about my bias; I freely admit I'm a liberal. Too bad you can't be even half as honest about your bias.

No. I'm just saying that if it was Democrats doing it, you wouldn't post about it.

Sort'a like I didn't see a post from you about the Annapolis City Council (mostly Democrats) trying to strip the city Mayor of all but ceremonial powers right after a Republican got elected mayor.

A. I didn't see that article. I read it, Googled it several other places. "The city manager would report directly to the City Council, not the mayor." I decry it, I don't know all the facts, but from what I see, it's totally wrong.

B. Until some of our righties start posting anything anti-right-wing, attacking me for posting what I do is totally irrelevant. I've posted about Weiner, Filner, and anti-Obama stuff regarding Gitmo and drones. How many times has ANY right winger her posted ANYTHING against ANY Republican/conservative? But of course, you'd rather die than take any of THEM to task.

Oh, while I'm at it:
Quote:

Filner booked at jail, released. Filner pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony false imprisonment and two misdemeanor battery charges for his behavior against three women.

Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, he will be sentenced to three months of home confinement and three years of probation. He will be required to undergo mental health treatment.

The felony charge said Filner used force to restrain a woman at a fund-raising event. The misdemeanor charges say he kissed a woman on the lips without her consent at City Hall and grabbed a woman's buttock at a rally. http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/19/us/mayor-filner-booked/

"Mental-health treatment" obviously won't do that jerk a bit of good. Asshole should have gone to jail.

My point still stands: You have no problem with them changing the rules after the election, I take it.

Funny how you can only reply with a hypothetical not based in any reality.

Just can't bring yourself to ever say anything bad about the right, can ya, Mr "Im not partisan"?

You are so full of shit.

They never have, but Geezer won't admit that, or admit to his own double standard.
