- Bowie State administrators say they canceled students' health insurance plans due to new Affordable Care Act regulations.

- Many students say they are left uninsured.

Students at Bowie State University assailed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on Thursday after administrators cancelled a low cost school-wide health care plan due to new regulations in the law.

Many students told Campus Reform that the now cancelled plans, which provided coverage for just $50 per semester, were the only insurance they could afford.

"I can't afford anything right now," one said. "I can't even afford my loans."

"We don't have that money," said another. "We can barely afford books."

Several students said that they felt they had been let down.

"It's stupid and it's Obama's fault," one said. "You haven't done anything, Obama, and I'm disappointed in you."

"What it was hyped up to be, was that it was supposed to solve a lot of problems and help a lot of people, and its not really doing that," said another.

Many students had no idea the plans had been canceled, which was announced only in an email to their school addresses.

A hard lesson in betrayal. Welcome to the real world.

Upon hearing this, the House of Representatives heartily endorsed Obamacare in the hopes that every black American will be uninsured, in addition to their own efforts to make sure no black American can vote without paying the proper poll taxes.

Well, folks, as is often the case, it's not quite what it appears. The day we ALL check into stuff and see for ourselves is the day we start having slightly more honest discussions. This from BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY ITSELF:
Quote:

Bowie State University discontinued its policy of mandatory student health insurance for the 2013-2014 academic year based on feedback from students who wanted to keep their costs lower with new insurance options that are now becoming available under the health care act. Students determined that they would be better served by individually securing insurance coverage that would best suit their needs. The university discontinued its mandatory insurance requirement and the minimal $5,000 plan that had been offered in the past. Discussions about increasing this coverage over the past several years had met with objections from students because of the increased cost.

Under new health care provisions, most students are now able to be covered under their parents' health plans up to age 26 at no additional cost, and new affordable coverage is becoming available through the Maryland State Insurance Exchange System. The coverage available through these programs will be tailored to students and their individual financial status, making it much more affordable than anything the university could offer.

Representatives of the Maryland State Insurance Exchange have been on campus helping students to enroll in plans appropriate for their individual needs.

Students can learn more about the Affordable Care Act and how it affects them by reading the following University System of Maryland fact sheets. (Fact sheets and more at http://www.bowiestate.edu/about/news/details/new-health-care-options-f

Oprah must think that Deneen Borelli is a racist too.

Funny, they're all as Black as Obama. They're just critical of his policies and actions. But according to Oprah and Rev. Al, disagreeing makes them racists. Totally pathetic!

Nah, EC, they won't offer cites--"Cites? We don' need no stinkeeng cites!"

Besides, they can't, and even if they did, obviously they'd be wrong. I just cleared this one up as to WHY the University got rid of it's previously "MANDATORY" health-care-insurance requirement for students, FROM THE UNIVERSITY ITSELF, its very own website. That should about kill this thread, except for nonsensical snarks, unless they want to claim the university is lying...which isn't a bad idea; you guys wanna run with that one?

Ooo, ooo, ooo; erudite response, Bravo!!

(raises hand) I'll answer that one! It's from "CampusReform.org":
Quote:

The Leadership Institute's campus news website, CampusReform.org, achieved a record two million unique visitors in 2012. The heavy influx of visitors continues to mobilize conservatives to fight the left on college campuses and win.

The news website, which highlights liberal biases and abuses on college campuses across the nation, attracted 2,002,970 unique visitors last year, compared to 49,741 in 2011.

Morton Blackwell, president of the Leadership Institute, remarked that "CampusReform.org is often the spark that ignites the tinderbox. It brings to light leftist abuses on campus and rallies conservatives to challenge the leftists and win."

The increased traffic on the website means that news spreads like wildfire. News websites such as Fox News, Drudge Report, Daily Caller, UK Daily Mail, and many others republish stories from CampusReform.org.

Once the stories attract national news, conservatives rally and fight the liberals.

Leadership Institute rallies conservatives, shuts down liberal indoctrination.
http://www.leadershipinstitute.org/News/?NR=9244]

(I think they want to rally conservatives)

Need I go on? I, on the other hand, copied DIRECTLY from the University's own website, so if you don't mind, I think I'll believe what THEY have to say. No offense intended.

Oooooh oooo oooo yourself. The thread, article, and video is about what the STUDENTS had to say about the situation, not what the University spokesmodel or website says. The students said what they said. No one, including Fox News, put a gun to their heads to say anything on camera.

Oh, yer HYSTERICAL! Someone with a microphone says "blah blah blah cancelled insurance blah blah blah will cost you blah blah blah can you afford blah blah blah" (in other words, lies through their teeth), and the STUDENTS' RESPONSES are what make it all valid.

I'm laughing too hard to type...

Niki, you believe that, if the govt tells insurers and companies they need to comply w/the new ACA rules, and in doing so, policies are dropped due to those requirements, then it's NOT Obama's fault ?

Really?

Wow. That's a level of delusion and sycophant suck up rarely seen in free countries.

And again, sigh, no. The "government" told insurers and companies they could keep policies which were implemented before, even tho' they don't comply w/the new ACA rules, but THOSE COMPANIES DON'T WANT TO. They don't want to because they way they had the system rigged, those policies were year-by-year so they could change them, shift them, and do whatever they wanted to make them LOOK like more than they were, which was essentially bare-bones language which protected the people who paid for them from virtually nothing. But they could go right on with those policies nonetheless. So the INSURANCE COMPANIES, recognizing people wouldn't stick with them, it's a teeny, tiny market for them anyway, they couldn't sucker NEW people into them, and they could use the change to try and sucker those people into NEW policies before they went to the ACA, cancelled them.

The government writes new laws all the time to protect people--well, not so much Congress anymore, they can't be bothered, but government agencies have always made rules to protect the American people from scam artists. Those scams then either disappear or change...and they have, there's a thread all about the NEW scams, but you're not interested. We understand.

Aside from which, that's not what this is about. Why this university did away with its "mandatory" student health insurance is clearly explained on the university's own web site: Because the students can get covered under their parents' policies or get insurance on the exchanges now--all AT LESS COST. They did so AT THE STUDENTS' REQUEST. The whole article is a sham, it's about someone from a group with an agenda walking around with a microphone lying to students and using their responses to try and make a FAKE story. How about addressing that instead of just repeating the same silly claim over and over? Or not, we know...

I believe you worded that incorrectly. I think you meant to say:

"if the govt tells insurers and companies they need to stop selling insurance policies that won't come close to covering their clients' health care needs, policies that were primarily designed to allow said insurers and companies to mainline cash from their duped clients, then we should be thanking Obama.

There ya go! Now you're getting it.

No, I got it right the fist time. The govt has no business telling insurers and companies what to sell, not sell their customers. Not the proper function of govt to arbitrarily make such choices FOR others.

It's not "arbitrarily" - the new policies are based on the failures of the old system. The gov does this all the time - see "food safety."

It's arbitrary for them to DECIDE if our plan is good enough or not. Please. Whether the "old system " was broken or not, is up for debate. Is it perfect ? Nope. But admitting it had flaws doesn't mean it should be " fundamentally transformed ", as Barry is fond of saying... Just like this country. Warts and all , we're still exceptional. There IS something great about America, but Barry, Marxist Community agitator of Chief was never raised to really comprehend any of that. He was just fed a steady diet of anti American crap , from day 1.

Eff him.

America is exceptional only when we do exceptional things. Being the only first world nation on earth without universal health care and spending three time more per person on health care for equal or worse results is far from exceptional.

What is exceptional is changing health care in a country that had not done it for close to a hundred years.

I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

We do always seem slow on the draw when it comes to human rights, hell, every OTHER country ended slavery before we did, so from a human rights perspective, and one can consider proper medical care and food to be so, which I do - America is downright retarded.
