I can't figure out is the placement of the gun safe though....

I have that EXACT safe myself. It's not meant to be installed on top of anything. It's more there just to hide it from children or guests. In my old apartment, I had it screwed under a center drawer in a used bedroom set I didn't mind breaking the back of the drawer to make it work.

Then again, What an awesome discussion piece it would make if I just screwed it right on top of my coffee table, and bolted the coffee table to the ground.
