Quote:Originally posted by SignyM: I can't imagine a worse way to "provide" coverage for all Americans' than to force them into the rapacious jaws of health insurances, and to back it up by funneling government money with them. To me, this is the worst of both worlds: Government intrusion and getting fucked over by the same bastards who created our current nightmare.
Quote:Originally posted by Hero: Without Health Insurance a person, even one making good money like myself, can't afford basic medical care. I like this idea. In 2004 when the Republicans failed to provide a Health reform plan that applied to real people (Medical savings accounts only work for people with money to save...and what's $500 or $1000 in savings compared to bills that easily reach the tens of thousands for simple surgical proceedures) I thought something like this would be useful.
Quote:Originally posted by Hero: Quote:Originally posted by AnthonyT: Before anything like 'mandatory' health insurance is approved of by me, I'd need to know a LOT more details. One issue is price controls. If everyone is insured then usage of the health care system will skyrocket. If there is no immediate increase in service providers and resources then prices will spike (because one doctor can only see so many people). If prices spike then price controls are the only solution. According to Dick Morris, when all this was being bounced around in 1994 this was something that was at the center of the Clinton plan. Rationing limited resources, price controls, strict control of wages, specialties, practice areas for new doctors, etc. What it means is that if you are in this system then "no" may be your answer. If you need heart surgury you'll apply and they'll possibly say "no". Not, second opinion, not go to another hospital... just plain "no". If you get the procedure done (in the US) then you'll have violated the law and so will the doctor who did it. This is Canada's system and why so many folks from countries with socialized medicine make discreet trips to the US for major surguries. H

Quote:Originally posted by Fremdfirma: I'm with Sarge, besides, the words "Government Mandated" drive me into a berserk rage no matter what idiotic idea they precede. Insurance, as a general rule, is just a successful Ponzi scam anyway, considering they use most of the money they rake in from Govt Mandated "clients" (read: victims) to hire lawyers and buy off courts so they don't actually have to fulfill their end of the deal - not to mention since it's mandatory, THEY get to write the contract any way they like, and change it at a whim, and the only choice YOU get is vaseline or K-Y, cause all them bastards are gonna do ya. -Frem It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it

Quote:Originally posted by AURaptor: RFK Jr calls for the 'treating' of legitimate businesses as if they had committed treason. And the Patriot Act ? I fail to see the danger here. When I was younger, and heard arguments about how the Gov't had the 'right' to search property for illegal drugs, like one's car, even with out probable cause, I was indifferent. " If you've got nothing to hide, why are you afraid of what they might find. And if you're afraid, then maybe you're hiding something...." Of course, I later grew up and took courses in Constitutional law, and it dawned on me that we, as individuals have rights, and it's the Gov'ts job to PROTECT those rights, not trample on them. So, to be honest, I'm at a cross roads. On the surface, I see nothing wrong w/ the Patriot Act. All the fears which folks claim 'COULD' happen, aren't. I don't see any rash of people's rights being violated, either by legitimate or false reasons. When the issue of terrorism is brought up, I recall the old line, " If you've got nothing to hide, why worry ? ", which of course brings me to a pause. ISthe 'war on terror' nothing more than a reved up version of the failed and pointless 'war on drugs' ? Then I think of 9/11. I watch a documentary or what ever, and remember what it was like on that day. Sure, there's the possibility that the P.A. could be used and abused.....but as of yet, I'm not convinced it has. Eyes wide open.

Abuses of this nature are like roaches, for every one you see, there's many more you don't cause they just hide it behind various levels of classification - and we find out 10-29 years later. By, the time they're through with the United States of America, assuming there is a United States of America, the words liberal and democrat won't be worried about being tied to socialist and communist and other sinking ship ideolies, they will be worried about being tied to liberal and democrat.
Quote:Originally posted by Riverlove: Sorry, but I cannot get on that bandwagon. I am NOT going to cheer if the Democrats screw things up worse. I have always put country first, then Party second. If America is going to spiral downwards it will affect me and everyone else regardless of political views. We need strong leadership now to get America back in the blue. Obama may be the right man at this time, I hope. I already know that Pelosi & Reid are 2 useless political hacks with dangerous thoughts and power. I think Obama is too smart to allow them to shove far-left demented ideology down his throat. He wants two terms, he'll be a pragmatist at least until the second term. Meanwhile, rejoicing in Democrats' failures will not bring me any happiness, and I will not engage in that finger-pointing, gotcha-mentality that has been the trademark of Democrat whiners for a long time.

I get that you're terrified about the prospect of alimony and child support, but as you've always said, you have yourself and you don't need any woman. As such, how exactly are any of them ever going to get those hooks in you you're so worried about? I mean I'm terrified of intimacy myself, and I don't need anyone but me. But I don't hate people because I'm scared of intimacy. Intimacy isn't a thing that's going to happen so it's not like it's something someone has ever DONE to me. And the one time you told us about a relationship you had, it ended badly for the girl, not you. And then, on the flip side, you resent any woman who would not be dependent upon you, even though you would hate that, because you think that defying the traditional gender roles will destroy society. It's like a giant psychological catch 22 you've caught yourself in. You've crippled yourself with your fear and mistrust and hate.

And yes, if Barack turns this country into a white-man-hating burka-wearing socialist whatever-it-is-you-fear, I'll certainly admit I'm wrong. And I'll fight to get him out of office. I like him, but he carries his Bible too much with him Mitt Romney...nope, Again, I like him, but he's Mr. Wooden Soldier, and not in touch with the times we live in Matter of fact, I cannot think of one Republican right now that is even close to being electable. The new leaders of of the Party now are actually on TV (Hannity)and radio (Limbaugh), or appear as guests on those shows like Newt Gingrich, Dick Morris, Karl Rove, Kimberly Guillfoyle, Ann Coulter, Monica Crowley, Bernie Goldberg, etc, and NONE of them could run for dogcatcher in Paducah. So why the ENORMOUS disconnect between Actual Republican politicians, and Conservative Repubicans in the media? Why? I think Republican politicians are generally clueless, generally living in the 1950's, generally AFRAID of public opinion, generally cowards, generally cannot ever effectively argue a position, and are generally self-serving twits like most of their Dem counterparts. Also they cannot unite on anything, especially the opposition to Democrats. I give the Dems credit; even though they too are fractured by diffferent positions, they always band together against Republicans, and that's why they win these days. I heard Morris last night predicting that Republicans will take back Congress in 2010 as a result of the backlash against Obama's failed economics and worsening recession/depression. I think that's delusional thinking, and if THAT's THE PLAN to get back in power, just to watch Obama fail, then God help us all.
