Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that they are charging conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza with violating campaign finance laws. D'Souza has been a mainstay in the conservative media for years, and his outlandish theories have received heavy promotion from outlets like Fox News and prominent conservatives like Newt Gingrich, Glenn Beck, and Rush Limbaugh.

Reuters reports that D'Souza "has been indicted by a federal grand jury for arranging excessive campaign contributions to a candidate for the U.S. Senate," allegedly reimbursing "people who he had directed to contribute $20,000" to the unnamed candidate.

Looks like pay back for his less than flattering treatment of Obama is under way.

It's not like he wasn't always a scumbag, EC.

Much of what D'Souza did in college as a rising conservative star foreshadowed the career of ideological nastiness to come. But relishing the outing of gay students (and at that luncheon there was much relishing) and engaging in dirty tricks to obtain those names—well, that speaks not to ideology, but character. And it is but one reason, even if now dusty, why D'Souza warrants little sympathy for being accused of once again breaking the rules to serve his ideological aims.

Demonize and silence your political opposition, and yes, we have tyranny.

How some don't see it, or do , and remain silent, is very disturbing.

Clearly no conservative is capable of committing any crime, so no conservative should ever be prosecuted.

That about sum it up?

Yes, apparently a crime, when done by a Republican, just isn't a crime, and Reuters is left-wing propaganda.
Quote:

Jan 23 (Reuters) - Dinesh D'Souza, a conservative commentator and best-selling author, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for arranging excessive campaign contributions to a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

According to an indictment made public on Thursday in federal court in Manhattan, D'Souza around August 2012 reimbursed people who he had directed to contribute $20,000 to the candidate's campaign. The candidate was not named in the indictment.

Attempts to reach D'Souza and a lawyer representing him were unsuccessful.

D'Souza was charged in the indictment with one count of making illegal contributions in the names of others, and one count of causing false statements to be made.

Federal law in 2012 limited primary and general election campaign contributions to $2,500 each, for a total of $5,000, from any individual to any one candidate. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/01/23/usa-politics-dsouza-idUSL2N0

Has to be a pack of lies, obviously; after all, he's a Republican.

Also obviously, not a hypocrite:
Quote:

In late 2012, D'Souza resigned his post as president of King's College, a small Christian college in New York City, after admitting he had become engaged to a woman even though he was legally married, though separated from his wife. He has been an outspoken defender of traditional marriage. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/01/23/usa-politics-dsouza-idUSL2N0

Maybe some conservative can explain to us all how being indicted by a federal grand jury is proof of a "kangaroo court" and political retaliation.

How exactly does one go about stacking a grand jury at the federal level? Please explain in detail, step by step.

It's really quite simple, EC; if a Republican is indicted, it must be part of a plot, retaliation, political something-or-other, that's all it could be. If a DEMOCRAT is indicted, he did it, whatever it was, obviously.

I know Senator Menendez (D-NJ) is under federal investigation for corruption. I eagerly await the cries from the right about how it's all just "retribution" by a "leftist kangaroo court."
