Didn't the boy scouts used to teach boys who were the same age as girl scouts how to shoot?

I don't have an opinion one way or another about whether it's better to teach kids gun safety and arm them or if it's better to keep weapons they don't understand out of their hands or if there's any kind of happy medium.

I'm just wondering if the boy scouts and girl scouts should have the same policies in this regard.

The Boy Scouts did offer a Marksmanship and Gun Safety badge, or badges.

The goal, I think, re your second paragraph, WAS to get them to understand guns, teach them how to care for them, teach the hazards as well as the skills.

And the GS and the BS are two entirely separate organizations, with 2 completely different managements, and so, 2 totally different outlooks on the world. There are many areas where their editorial policies would be in disagreement.

The BS were founded as a paramilitary organization, about preparing boys to live and function outdoors, doing stuff, under authority, preping them to be good, effective soldiers. The GS always were about expanding the opportunities and horizons for girls. Get 'em out of the house, out of the kitchen, see that they could do things and be self reliant.
