Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Stop laughing, she was serious! According to Michelle Bachmann: “You see our movement at its core is an intellectual movement,” Bachmann claimed (as actual smart people laughed around the globe). “We are based on the greatest ideas ever conceived in the mind of man. And I would put those magnificent ideas up against any other idea for freedom in the world." ( http://blog.al.com/wire/2014/03/tea_party_is_an_intellectual_m.html)

Y'think? Let's take a sample:

Former Missouri Rep. Todd Akin once claimed that women have magical vaginas that can prevent pregnancy during rape ( http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/21/us/politics/rep-todd-akin-legitimate
-rape-statement-and-reaction.html?_r=0
).

An Alabama state GOP rep thinks a baby is the “largest organ in the body” even though a baby isn’t an organ at all ( http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2280870/Mary-Sue-McClurkin-Ala
bama-lawmaker-fetus-largest-organ-womans-body.html
).

A Texas state Republican believes rape kits are the same as birth control pills ( http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2013/jun/24/jodie-laubenber
g/jodie-laubenberg-says-texas-rape-kit-dilation-and
-/).

Then there’s Georgia Republican Paul Broun who sits on the House science committee yet believes science is “all lies straight from the pit of hell.” How the hell he ever made it through medical school is a mystery ( http://articles.latimes.com/2012/oct/07/nation/la-na-nn-paul-broun-evo
lution-hell-20121007
).

Let’s not forget about Texas congressman Louie Gohmert. He once cruelly told a woman that she should have carried her brain-dead fetus to term ( http://radio.foxnews.com/2013/05/24/republican-congressman-says-woman-
should-have-carried-brain-dead-fetus-to-term
/). That’s not all. He also can’t tell the difference between Hispanics and Arabs ( http://www.taylormarsh.com/2013/04/rep-louie-gohmert-warns-that-radica
l-islamists-are-being-trained-to-act-like-hispanics
/).

Up next, Rick Perry. The Texas Governor is a prime example of “Tea Party intellect.” He doesn’t know the difference between Louisiana and Florida ( http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/2013/08/rick-perry-shows-up-in-
new-glasses-at-redstate-gathering.html
/). He doesn’t think Canada is a foreign country ("Every barrel of oil that comes out of those sands in Canada is a barrel of oil that we don’t have to buy from a foreign source", http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/28/what-moves-republican-cr
owds-in-iowa/?_php=true&_type=blogs&smid=tw-thecaucus&seid=auto&_r=0
#). Perhaps most damning, Perry can’t even pinpoint the decade or even the century when the American Revolution occurred. He thinks it happened in the 1500s ( http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/10/rick-perry-mixes-up-dates
-of-american-revolution
/).

House GOP Rep. Dana Rohrabacher once blamed dinosaur farts as the cause of climate change ( http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Dana_Rohrabacher).

And don’t even get me started on Sarah Palin. Even military veterans think she’s an idiot:

(I won't even GO INTO that vapid-faced idiot behind her, his face says it all.) It is truly baffling how they’re even able to breathe with brain power that low. It's perfectly apropos that Bachmann should be the one calling them an "intellectual movement". But we can't really blame them. There’s actually scientific evidence that these extreme conservatives don’t know anything because their ideology makes them incapable of critical thinking. "Motivated Numeracy and Enlightened Self-Government" ( http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2319992) shows that strong ideological beliefs undermine a person’s ability to interpret data and even perform math problems. So it's not really their fault, and there's really no hope for them, accept it and move on. At least, thank gawd, they're a small minority.

This "intellectual movement" features people who try to read "Green Eggs and Ham," and are singularly unable to figure it out. The point of the story is, once he tries it, he LIKES IT. This is the "intellectual movement's" argument against Obamacare - the idea that people might actually like saving money if they try it.

Of course, the "Tea Party's" two most notable spokesmorons - Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin - both read this preschool book and fuck it up completely, showing that at the heart of this "intellectual movement" are people who are incapable of reading at a first-grade level.

Having seen their protest signs, that of course comes as no surprise at all.

I never knew that, EC...never having read it. Makes it even more pathetically ironic. My first thought was "why didn't anyone ever point that out?", then I realized, well, of course, nobody with brains would bother taking Cruz seriously enough to do so...it's only the idjits who worship him and Palin who actually LISTEN to them...duh...

Everyone else just mocked his faux-filibuster, and him.

Ooo, how about this pinnacle of right-wing intellect from Ohio?
Quote:

Yesterday's Columbus Dispatch quotes one of the legislature's most raging ignoramuses, state rep. Andrew Brenner, as saying that ALL public education is "socialism" and should be abolished. His solution, of course, is complete privatization, meaning that only the affluent could afford to go to school and Ohio would not only drop to dead last educationally and economically among the 50 states but would soon be lagging most third-world countries.

While many would agree with his call to do away with testing and the contentious "Common Core" standards, this is pure lunacy:

“We need to do something that was done about 25 years ago in the former Soviet Union and eastern bloc: sell off the existing buildings, equipment and real estate to those in the private sector."

It's a parody page. It's satire. It's showing how fucking stupid the average Republican actually is.

Personally I think it's redundant, because Republicans already show us how goddam moronic they are every time they vote. Or speak. Or try to spell. Or attempt to use phrases like "suppose to" and "what so ever".

America loves a winner!

While pointing out Leftist idiocy may seem like a reasonable counter to their vicious attacks on conservative women, it really isn't necessary. Palin was 100% right when she correctly stated that Russia could be seen from Alaska, and that Putin would invade Ukraine. And Bachmann is 100% right, when she speaks of the TEA Party, and its basic ideals on the limits of the Federal govt, the need for tax reform, and the crisis of a porous border and its effect on illegal immigration.

The issues of the TEA party really are an intellectual endeavor, but are often wasted on an electorate which is more interested in following Honey Boo Boo, American Idol and The Bachelor.

Bringing up Rep. Lee's asinine claim that the US is 400 years old, or that the Apollo missions planted a USA flag on MARS, aren't needed to show how right Bachmann or Palin are on the intellectual foundation for the TEA party agenda.

OLDGUY

What Would Mal do ?

always interesting to drop by and see how wide the river runs from conservative to liberal political bents here...

Disclaimers:
1) I have little respect for EITHER party's offerings these days.
2) I have no use for Barry and utter disdain for michelle who doesn't hesitate to show her utter disdain for us older middle class white guys to begin with.
3) Most politicians are total head cases and often wrong or at least don't manage to express their ideas as well as they might like.
4) The less verbose , like "Hope and Change" expressed only what our imagination made it...and he has delivered neither.
5) Crazy they may be, yet they live the life of elite..wealth, power, privilege..and whether it's Pelosi in office, or Palin raking in millions from the very system that showed her unprecident hatred..the bottom line is the rest of us sit around pondering how to finance the next geek meet of a 10yr old failed tv series...while these "idiots" are pulling in more $ than they can find time to even consider spending.
6) and finally...whether you consider them smart as a whip or dumb as a brick, I'll take watching 5 mins of Bachmann and Palin any day over having to look at and listen to the stammering nonsense from the sunkin eye'd Pelosi or the headache I get when I try to decipher what ol gorilla face Lee is trying say..
but most interesting to me is that Firefly was a show that created a very specific mindset...and like other shows of the day that railed against the govt...whether it be Boston Legal on down...they were couched during a time of republican encumbancy so somehow it was cool? those same shows, including our beloved Firefly would play just as well.. I believe even more appropriately , today against this current administration..and depsite all that has been shown to us (and much that has at great legal expense been kept from us) some folks continue to think that ol Barry is just such a genius that the office of President of the US is just boring to him?
I'm sorry.. I'm too much a faithful follower of Captain Mal to go down that road with you.
