Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

This is hysterical. Here is now Faux News shows Obamacare enrollment as of the 27th:

Wow! They really missed the mark, didn't they!?!?! Except,

A. This is how it would appear in real life:

B. The CBO revised it's enrollment projections down to six million after the disastrous rollout. ( http://www.businessinsider.com/obamacare-enrollment-6-million-deadline
-2014-3
)

Hey, wait, that means they MET their mark, doesn't it? No, wait, they actually BEAT IT!
Quote:

Obamacare deadline spurs enrollment flood

What a difference six months makes to Obamacare.

A massive flood of health insurance shoppers deluged the government-run exchanges over the weekend and into Monday, rushing to beat the midnight enrollment deadline under the Affordable Care Act.

The influx of up to 1.5 million visitors by noon on the federal HealthCare.gov exchange led to a brief lag in its ability to handle new applications at midday, but that was quickly resolved.

The surge came as a new report suggested that at least 9.5 million previously uninsured people have obtained health coverage since the October launch of Obamacare plans and Medicaid marketed by the exchanges.

The tsunami of procrastinators to the exchanges seem poised to push nationwide enrollment via the exchanges either to or very close to 7 million people—which was the Obama administration's original estimate last summer. Excerpts from http://www.cnbc.com/id/101539560

So despite a truly pathetic graphic and all their bullshit, it pretty much looks like the ACA will reach or surpass even the ORIGINAL target. Good going, FauxNews! Keep up the good work!

You had me at "hello" Niki :)

Reading the rest of the post only confirmed that the reason I giggled when I saw the image was why I was supposed to be laughing.

I know I just posted it in a different thread recently, but here it is again...

I know I'm probably not right, but in my eyes, 99% of news from any "side" no matter how unfair or how unbalanced, is designed to influence the "demographic" it was created for, and then inevitably is used by the other "side" of that particular issue to keep up the hate.

I don't want to play that game anymore.

Seriously Niki.

Call me an asshole to my face, in front of everyone here that still visits the RWED.

I implore you to. I deserve it after things I've said.

None of this bullshit we argue about means anything in the end.

Why spend what little time we have left being angry and worrying about everything?

We seriously need a constructive hobby, you and I.

I don't know about you, but I'm hoping that some freak accident knocks out my cable connection for a few days this summer so I can get my first tan in the last decade. :)

Truce? I just wanna be friends. I don't like having "enemies" or at the very least people who are ambivalent about me.

Remember the bunnies?

We all used to be a lot nicer to each other.

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=2&tid=51390&p=3

I just unearthed this thread 15 minutes ago, and while searching through it to find that picture I saw a better me. I saw a better all of us. I saw a community telling their own "war stories" to each other and showing each other support. I saw a world where Riona enjoyed frequenting.

What have we done? What have we allowed ourselves to become?

The RWED is poison.

I may have even said so once or twice in those 5 pages of community posts.

I really do miss that, and I hope to get back there someday soon. It was nice posting about accomplishments and failures and just asking advice and knowing that if I hadn't visited the site for a few days no less than 3 or 4 people had replied with long posts about their own family or projects or just a general interest in each other.

You were a part of that too.

FIW

"Freedom, I Won't"

I refuse to go any further down that rabbit hole we're all going down the longer we spend here.

I'm extending my arm to you as a show of peace.

Don't go any deeper Niki....

It's evil down there.

Be right, do right.

Shit I'm wit 'cha, and I ain't mad at 'cha. Got nothin' but love for ya. Do ya thing girl. ;)

Well, apparently they were just a bit TOO blatant, and it got picked up. FauxNews is now apologizing:
Quote:

Fox News Issues Correction On Erroneous Obamacare Chart

Fox News issued an on-air correction to a misleading chart displayed Monday on "America's Newsroom". The original chart appeared to scale 6 million to about one-third of the Obama administration's original goal for sign-ups through the federal and state health-insurance exchanges.

"That was our mistake," Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer said Tuesday. "Correction noted." http://www.businessinsider.com/fox-news-obamacare-graphic-correction-2
014-4#ixzz2xeijgRaO

The "new" graphic:

Hemmer nonetheless failed to mention that CBO had revised its enrollment projection down from 7 million to 6 million after HealthCare.gov's glitchy rollout, or that Obamacare sign-ups were on track to hit that original 7 million mark as the clock wound down on the open enrollment period Monday night.

Im sure they figured they could get away with it. Graph reading isn't generally taught until 3rd, maybe 4th grade - so a large group of their viewers would struggle with it.

At the end of the day, it was probably due to some idiot kid having control of the Graphics. Sure. He's brilliant with the artistic functions, but without a calculator he's as nervous around numbers as he is every moment of his life around pretty girls.

Nah.... they totally made it look that way on purpose.

The good news is that you and yours proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was a manipulation tactic to all of the people who are like minded with you.

The bad news is that, at the very least, the solidarity "your side" shows about this trivial mistake is 1,000,000 times more valuable than the $15 bucks an hour the kid who made the chart got paid to make it.

You're not "proving" anything here to people who don't already see from your point of view on this issue. The ones that did believe still believe. The ones that don't believe likely will never believe.

At the end of the day, the older we got the more days we've lived being manipulated one way or the other, depending on our leanings.

The Truth is in the Middle.

It always is, It always will be, and It always has been.

No matter how much "man" tries to manipulate the truth, it's always somewhere in between the two "sides".

If there were one fatal flaw to "man" it's that mankind always seems to need to find a way to justify one's behavior instinctively.

If either "side" were "right", we wouldn't be fighting anymore. We would all hold hands, even and maybe especially in poverty, and sing songs about the World uniting and about love and hope.

They did that shit in the 70's. You likely were deep in it.

If you were, I envy you for that.

There's only two songs I remember from junior High that were just truly Happy songs for no other reason then to be happy. No alterior motives....

The first, obviously, would be Bobby McFerrin's OHW "Don't Worry, Be Happy"

The second.....

eherm..... well... I forgot what it was now.

In the mean time, I'll dig even further back into my song-bank and show you the Full Glory of "Walk the Dinosaur".

My childhood dream of being an archaeologist.... what became of it?

Back in those days, nearly decades before Pluto was demoted, we all believed in the mighty yet friendly Brontosaurus.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brontosaurus

I feel the pain of the Pluto Believers.....

How could I ever fall in love again?

One might be able to make that case, had they not been caught doing this, and similar stunts. But they have, so:

Nah.... they totally made it look that way on purpose.

Becomes the far more likely scenario.

I don't argue any of that.

Dude....

Just because we have not seen eye to eye in the past, you need to look beyond that shit.

99% of what I believed in as a child I don't believe in now, no matter how much I wish I still truly did.

I'm not making a case against your "side". I could honestly give two shits about anybody's "side".

I know I come off as a dick in here sometimes, but in real life "I'm Very Big" (Men in Tights ;))

You wanna know the truth? How many times have you at least "bent" the truth to your family or friends about something?

It's OK. We ALL do it from time to time for whatever reasons.....

The people that run the country and essentially CONTROL US are professionals in what you (we) just dabble in. They shovel the shit-fed lies into our mouths and we willingly accept them as gospel whilst on our knees.

The older I get, the more I "get" religion.....

The Human Condition sucks.

It's GOT to be a test, right?

The next time you go hating on somebody based soley on pre-concieved notions about them and post to them like their an idiot child without actually reading about the problem, perhaps you should actually read with your eyes and retain with your brain before posting.

THIS is why the RWED sucks.

THIS is why I'm glad I still talk to some people I used to talk to outside of here still.

There is nothing good to find in the RWED.

The RWED is a place that hardened criminals whould shy away from.

I seriously hope that Niki takes a stroll down memory lane like I did today and reads a little of that thread from over 2 years ago.

Once upon a time, pre-politics, we were pretty groovy. :)

More "Fair and Balanced":

Fox News Refuses to Acknowledge Ivy League Wunderkind is Black

Quote:

Its been covered in every media outlet. A 17-year old high school senior has been accepted to every Ivy League school he applied--8 and counting. He scored in the 99th percentile on his SATs. He's wicked smart.

He is also a first generation African-American from Ghana.

Other outlets, such as HuffPo, or USAtoday, or abcnews or any number out there mentions his accomplishment but also says his family immigrated from Ghana, that he is African-American, and/or includes a picture of him.

Except Fox.

Their report took out any reference to where his family was from (except to say "Shirley, NY"). No reference to him being African-American, and the picture they used was of a Harvard building... even though all the other outlets found his profile, which is all over the internet.

They covered the story, I'm sure, to not be accused of failing to cover a very popular, positive story on a black kid, but at the same time, did what they could to hide the fact that he is black from their typical audience.

If you watch Faux news at all, you know they have a narrative about young, black African-Americans: They have a proclivity to violence and white people should fear them.

YOU CAN BET that if this kid had stabbed somebody, then they'd have no problem putting his mugshot on the front page with a scathing headline featuring his race. And then, as usual, bill o'reilly would be talking about the culture of what is wrong with THOSE people.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/04/01/1288847/-Fox-News-Refuses-to-
Acknowledge-Ivy-League-Wunderkind-is-Black

Why did they studiously avoid showing that the kid is black? Because they're "colorblind?"

No. It just doesn't fit their narrative about black people.
