“Maybe this will be the end of all selfies,” White House Senior Adviser Dan Pfeiffer said about the incident Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “(Obama) obviously didn’t know anything about Samsung’s connection to this.”

“Someone who uses the President’s likeness to promote a product… that’s a problem with the White House,” Pfeiffer added. “We’ve had conversations with Samsung about this and have expressed our concerns.”

After the stunt, Samsung revealed it had a marketing deal with Ortiz and admitted that company officials had “worked with David and the team on how to share images with fans.”

Ortiz snapped the seemingly unplanned shot while onstage with Obama, as the Red Sox celebrated their 2013 World Series title at the White House.
Ortiz tweeted the picture, prompting more than 38,000 retweets, including one by the official Samsung account — to the company’s more than 5.2 million Twitter followers.
The incident isn’t the first time Obama has found himself in selfie hot water — nor is it the first time Samsung has struck marketing gold with a secretive selfie promo.

Yea mushies! While watching 'Experiment In Terra' for the umpteenth time I came across the most amazing and fascinating bit of trivia ever. Only took me 35 years to stumble across it. Can the old Modockerisall guess what it is?

Don't know. The mystery of the mushie remains unsolved.

But as for 'Experiment In Terra' ...

The episode already had a lot going on for itself, mostly for the outstanding, somewhat obscure yet recognizable guest cast :

Ken Lynch -

played the security officer who interrogated Apollo on Terra. He was in the original Star Trek episode 'Devil In The Dark' as the mining chief.

Logan Ramsey -

played the aide to the President. He was in the original Star Trek episode 'Bread And Circuses' as the Roman Pro Council.

Edward Mulhare -

played John, the Ship of Lights "reflection of intelligence" who guided Apollo on the mission. He was in the original Outer Limits episode 'The Sixth Finger' as the scientist who sends miner David McCallum into his evolutionary future.

Melody Anderson -

played Brenda Maxwell, daughter of General Maxwell. She was in Flash Gordon as Dale Arden a year after her Galactica role.

Nehemiah Persoff -

played the military leader of the Eastern Alliance who starts a nuclear war. 20+ years earlier he was in 'On The Waterfront' as the cab driver who drove Brando and Steiger around as they talked about Brando's failed boxing career. Brando gets out of the cab, and Persoff drives Steiger to a warehouse where he's hung up on a hook and shot.

Okay, the preliminaries are done. Here's the amazing new discovery, at least for me....

SETTING:

Starbuck lands on Terra to try to find Apollo. As he is checking Apollo's viper flight recorder, two unknown vehicles approach. Nine armed soldiers get out and walk towards him. They are all wearing helmets. You can't see their faces, only their eyes are visible. As they close in, Starbuck says into his hand-held recorder "Let the record show that in my first contact with beings from Terra my laser is set on stun." Then he says to the nine soldiers "Okay, that's far enough." The officer in charge answers back "You have violated the air space of an area under the protection of the People's Nationalist Front. Lay down your weapon and submit to interrogation." The viewer almost forgets that these are the good guys on Terra, the political opponents of the evil Eastern Alliance.

THE REVELATION :

As I said above you can't see the faces of the soldiers who confront Starbuck. But every time I ever watched the episode the officer who speaks to Starbuck always sounded very familiar to me. It drove me crazy that I couldn't place the voice. I'm usually pretty good at that. After watching dozens of times I decided that it had to be Jack Stauffer, aka Bojay. And why not ... he was long gone from the show, and an anonymous bit part wouldn't have been so unusual.

But I was wrong. That voice, that man, was in fact ... John de Lancie! Yes STNG's 'Q' himself, many years before that iconic role.

Not as far as I know. Terra's PNF was admittedly a strange name for an alliance of peaceful nations. It was led by a President who shared power with elected representatives called The Precedium. Their enemy was the Eastern Alliance which had committed genocide by wiping out a satellite planet's (Paradeen) entire population of millions with something akin to a neutron bomb ... people gone, buildings standing. The whole thing was a metaphor for the U.S.A. versus the U.S.S.R.

Sorry for getting so sidetracked with all this felgercarb. Once I get started on that show it's hard to stop.
