Here's one Republican plan for reducing health care costs

What kind of heartless monster would support the ER turning away an individual because they lack insurance or aren’t dying right there on the hospital floor? You guessed it! Republicans!

While prominent Republicans, like Mitt Romney, Jim DeMint and Haley Barbour have turned to the “ER’s will treat you” as a way to support the rejection of expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, they are quickly changing their tunes. Now, instead of advocating for ERs to treat the uninsured like decent human beings, they aim to keep the uninsured from using emergency rooms at all. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal is lobbying on Congress to allow hospitals to turn people away from emergency rooms who lack health insurance ( http://www.times-herald.com/local/20140225-deal-ER2014-02-25T11-11-11). Let’s remember, President Reagan signed into law The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act is a 1986 which requires hospitals to provide emergency health care treatment to anyone who needs it, regardless of their citizenship or their ability to pay for the said treatments. But the Governor thinks this is all “bad facts” which made “bad law:
Quote:

“If they really want to get serious about lowering the cost of health care in this country, they would revisit another federal statute that has been there for a long time,” Deal told a crowd of dozens at a University of Georgia political science alumni gathering. “It came as a result of bad facts, and we have a saying that bad facts make bad law.”

And with that, a Republican wants federally subsidized hospitals to turn away ill human beings who lack insurance. Certainly customary of the “pro-life” party, right?

Georgia Senatorial candidate and current Congressman Paul Broun (famous for his “science is lies straight from the pit of hell” comment) has introduced a bill that would allow ERs to treat only patients who they determine have an “emergency medical condition.”
Quote:

“[Patient Option Act] Amends SSA title XVIII (Medicare) and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) to allow certified medical professionals to assess the nature and extent of an emergency room patient’s illness or injury to determine whether an emergency medical condition exists (triage).” http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/2900

The bill is called the Patient Option Act, only it’s not giving any patient any option. It’s giving the hospitals the option to deny service to anyone because they don’t fit the criteria of a “emergency medical condition.”

There are many who support Broun’s “turn the sick away” bill, including the director of Madison Project, a Tea Party political action committee that Senator Ted Cruz helped with fundraising and has written fundraising missive for over the last few months. The director, Daniel Horowitz, has a very sadistic Hunger Games inspired solution to the issue of crowded hospitals:
Quote:

“If we ever plan to curb skyrocketing hospital costs and improve access to emergency care, we must address this massive unfunded federal mandate of EMTALA. Among the provisions of Rep. Paul Broun’s Patient Option Act, which is one of the best healthcare reform proposals, are some good reforms of emergency and indigent care. Under Broun’s proposal, hospitals would be allowed to turn away people from ERs if they do not have an immediate need for emergency care. This would solve the problem of illegal immigrants using ERs for primary care.” http://www.pfaw.org/category/states/texas

And these are the people who say Obamacare is getting in the way of people receiving care, seeing doctors, and getting treatments? http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/04/12/gop-doesnt-care-die/

New York (which created its own Obamacare exchange) is a huge success story: enrollment is 60 percent higher than federal projections, premiums have been cut in half. "Resistance to the health exchange among Republicans in the state may, oddly enough, have helped make it more successful." www.nytimes.com/2014/04/14/nyregion/in-new-york-hard-choices-on-health
-exchange-spell-success.html

New York was already a community-rating state, where insurers weren’t allowed to discriminate based on medical history. But the result of that system was that healthy people tended to stay out of the individual market, creating a bad risk pool that drove up rates. Now everyone has to be in, dramatically improving the risk pool. As such, the New York experiences demonstrates the essential role of the individual mandate for reform. If you forgot, "individual mandate" is a requirement by law that people purchase health insurance.

I know he considers me a neo con.
I asked him for a cite.
He provided a link about Cruz and a link about Romney.
So instead of backing up his claim, he bitched out. Hence my quip about there only being two neo con douchebags.

That explain it good enough or will I have to start drawing pictures?

Headline from "objective" link from Storybook

" Scumbag Ted Cruz Tells Uninsured They Can Use ER, Backs Group that Wants ERs to Turn Away the Uninsured "

Then, from the story, another link to this story...

Ted Cruz for proclaiming in a televised debate this week that “it is much cheaper to provide emergency care than it is to expand Medicaid and to expand the rolls.”

The Texas Medical Association Political Action Committee, which has endorsed Cruz's rival David Dewhurst in the July 31 GOP Senate runoff, said Thursday that while it agrees with both men that Medicaid “is broken,” Cruz shouldn't suggest the status quo is acceptable.

There's a weird contortion and array of dots connecting to what Cruz said, to what some groups who support him say, and one has to go through several degrees of separation to finally decipher what's actually been said, by whom, and what was being discussed.

As I said, pure deception ( lies ) on the part of the Left, to demonize any / all opposition to Der One.

Point is, the GOP simply saying the ER shouldn't be used to treat anything but emergencies. Wow, crazy talk, huh?

* The term "neoconservative" refers to those who made the ideological journey from the anti-Stalinist left to the camp of American conservatism. [2] Neoconservatives frequently advocate the "assertive" promotion of democracy and promotion of "American national interest" in international affairs including by means of military force.[3][4] The movement had its intellectual roots in the monthly review magazine Commentary.[5][6] C. Bradley Thompson, a professor at Clemson University, claims that most influential neoconservatives refer explicitly to the theoretical ideas in the philosophy of Leo Strauss (1899–1973).
