Climate Meeting to Discuss Future of Fossil Fuels

After concluding that global warming almost certainly is man-made and poses a grave threat to humanity, the U.N.-sponsored expert panel on climate change is moving on to the next phase: what to do about it.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, will meet next week in Berlin to chart ways in which the world can curb the greenhouse gas emissions that scientists say are overheating the planet.

It is also trying to give estimates on what it would cost.

Oh, and C ) poor countries want to have the stuff the rich countries have, so trying to get them down isn't going to fly too well.

A leaked draft of the report sent to governments in December suggests that in order to keep global temperature increases below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 F) by the end of the century — the stated goal of international climate talks — emissions need to fall by 40-70 percent by 2050.

So with China and India producing a third of the world's carbon and increasing their emissions by 7-8% a year(and the world's by 2-3%), and developing countries in Asia and South America increasing emissions as well, we're going to not only get them to stop, but reduce everyone's emissions by 40-70% in 36 years?

Nuclear is no where as safe, for starters. Sure, it can be used in spots, but between the cost of building plants, and then long term waste disposal, I doubt many would jump at the idea of 100's or 1000's of more nuke plants around the world.

Helping curb climate change ? Get China to stop polluting the air with their industrial smog, which is affecting weather around the globe more than any 'AGW'.

Poor countries don't WANT to get away from fossil fuels. The alternatives are way too expensive, yield far too little, and or simply aren't feasible.

“The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.” ~ Albert Einstein

Yes the solutions are not going to be cheap or easy.

You had said that nothing delivered as much power as fosil fuels. If you are talking about where we get power right now, you are right. However both nuclear and hygrogen can produce more power than fosil fuels can in the future. Thing is you will only need nulcear plants to pick up what other sources, wind, solar, thermal, ect., can't. Using sorces such as solar you can produce hydrogen to be use in vehicals.

As far as fossile fuels being cheap, well the rich countries can help pay for the poor countries to use alternative power sources that they could otherwise not afford.

Than we have this....

Smog from China has become so bad that the particles travel into the atmo, which causes more rain and storms w/ greater intensity than would occur otherwise.

These storms are NOT the result of GLOBAL WARMING, but of more particulate matter, in effect seeding the clouds.

You see, so brain locked are some here that they react to ANYTHING that has to do w/ the change in weather, they've been programmed to immediately think " MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING "!

But see, language is the key here. Words MEAN things. So what we once called 'global warming' , we are now simply saying ' climate change ', and TPTB have so hammered into the public psyche, that ANY change in the weather , climate, or hell, even earthquakes, are now viewed by the DUMB MASSES as all being the same damn thing. All caused by ... you know who.

Bottom line, the warm-mongers are so hell bent on blaming man for anything and everything, they've attached a negative stigma to our mere existence. It's all our fault. We're to blame. And if we don't do exactly as AlGore says, we're ALL GONNA DIE!

Actually not true. Too many particles in the air cause condensation to occur on too many nuclei. The drops never get big enough to fall, because the water is divided up among too many pieces. So particulate smog causes LESS rain. If you want, I can provide cites and maybe even pictures.

So can I...

Asia’s pollution triggers storms in the USA

A new study find a link between smog in China and the weather in North America.

Beijing is legendary for its pollution, but now a new study suggests that the poor air quality in Asia is affecting the weather elsewhere in the globe.

The study, by researchers at Texas A&M University in the US, found that smog from Asia directly affects the weather in North America.

It is already common knowledge that the weather around the world is linked, and what happens in one place can have a dramatic effect on the weather elsewhere in the globe.

The same principle applies to pollution: it can have a far-reaching impact. A number of previous research papers have shown that the drought that struck West Africa in the 1980s was caused, at least in part, by the coal-burning factories in the USA and Europe.

The pollution caused by these factories cooled the entire northern hemisphere, shifting the African monsoon southwards.

This situation was reversed when the clean-air legislation was passed in the USA and Europe, allowing the air to clear, and the rain band to shift northwards once more.

Now researchers have determined a clear link between Asia’s pollution and the weather in North America, although how much of an effect there is remains unclear.

Storm systems from Asia usually track across the Pacific towards North America, but the smog pollution can affect this.

Smog is comprised of various tiny particles, from sulfates and nitrates, to soot and soil dust. These particles could help clouds form.

In order for water vapour in the atmosphere to become a water droplet within a cloud, it must have something to condense onto, a nucleus. If there are no nuclei, then a cloud will struggle to form.

Scientists at Texas A&M University argue that the particles in the smog could provide these nuclei, and the study found they can increase the formation of deep convective clouds, by between 20 and 50 percent. This could result in more intense storms.

ABC News Defends Alec Baldwin, Calls Homophobic Attack ‘Alleged Slur’

It was a metaphysical certitude that liberal media members were going to once again show their hypocritical colors and defend Alec Baldwin’s homophobic attack on a British reporter Thursday.

ABC’s David Muir came through for the high-strung actor on Saturday’s World News actually calling the attack an “alleged slur”

A new study find a link between smog in China and the weather in North America.

... While China struggles to take control of its air quality, more research is needed in order to determine exactly how the pollution is changing the weather in North America. If the pollution is also changing the track of storms, there could be a risk that it is exacerbating the drought in California. (Because nothing spells more rain and thunderstorms like drought!)

This research may be a bitter pill to swallow for those people in the USA who have been hit by severe weather in the last few years. However, it may be worth remembering that the second largest polluting country is still the United States.

The world’s weather is intricately linked. What happens in one part of the world, can greatly impact someone in a completely different location, but there is no longer any doubt that human activity is changing the global weather.

The lack of reading and comprehension skills, just in this one example, is truly stunning.

" If the pollution is also changing the track of storms..."

Storms which might otherwise take a course that would bring rain to California, now have their track altered, resulting in what ???

NO RAIN !!!

Crazy how that words, ain't it ???

Good grief.

exacerbating ( defined - make worse: to make an already bad or problematic situation worse )

Is THAT the tricky word in the story which confused you, 1kiki ??? Did you think it meant something else, perhaps?

So, if California is extremely dry, and all that missing rain PLUS the extra rain you say exists went somewhere else along the coast, where did it go?

Wait, hold on. WHO said this ? Read the gorram OP again, genius. Those who did the STUDY said this, all I did was repeat it, and highlight it , for YOU to ( hopefully ) grasp.

It appears you still don't get it.

And how are you arriving at the conclusion that " all that missing rain " isn't itself the rain that might have otherwise gone to CA ? Why do you assume there's a "PLUS" involved , w/ regards to EXTRA rain ?

Your really not getting any of this, are you ?

The study isn't saying there are MORE storms, just that the ones which develop are stronger. If the track of those storms, be they weak OR strong, misses SoCAL, what difference , at this time , does it make ???

( see what I just did there ? Probably not )

I understand you completely. You took a small snippet of a news story about a study which said this

Now researchers have determined a clear link between Asia’s pollution and the weather in North America, although how much of an effect there is remains unclear. ... Scientists at Texas A&M University argue that the particles in the smog could provide these nuclei, and the study found they can increase the formation of deep convective clouds, by between 20 and 50 percent. This could result in more intense storms.

and said this about it - "Smog from China has become so bad that the particles travel into the atmo, which causes MORE RAIN and storms w/ greater intensity than would occur otherwise."

My challenge was OK - what rain?

To which you replied "Storms which might otherwise take a course that would bring rain to California, now have their track altered, resulting in what ??? NO RAIN !!!"

To which I replied
OK, if it's gone elsewhere, where is it? And BTW, where is all that EXTRA rain you claimed should be there? (see MORE RAIN, above)

Now you're claiming you never said anything about more rain, in fact you never said anything at all, all you did was post a snippet of a study.

I don't know what the study said, either ... brain is taking the

I took no 'snippet'. I replied to YOUR full commentary of the ENTIRE study.

I never said anything bout there not being more rain. Good grief, you're making this shit up just to argue.

And we all know why, too.

More INTENSE STORMS, is what the linked article says. I take that to mean more rain and wind, don't you ?

But the kicker is, if the storms don't track as they would normally, they don't dump all that rain on areas which they would otherwise.

Seriously, how did your brain even learn human speech ?
