Russia said it does not plan to use the International Space Station beyond 2020, casting a shadow on U.S. plans to continue cooperation with the country and extend the life of the orbiting laboratory until at least 2024.

I wondered about this the other day. With Obama drying up co-operation between the USA and Russia, because of the Ukraine/Crimea business, I thought he'd pull out of this one, and leave the Russians stuck with the thing, see how long they can keep operating it without US money and technical support.

But it looks like they pulled out first, leaving the US to operate the station without transport to and from it.

'Course they're talking about 2020, and he's talking 2024, so A LOT could change before anything actually changes.

Personally, I'da told the Russkies to bring any Americans there home ASAP, and then pulled the plug, but, hey, that's just me.

By then "Virgin" will likely have a spacecraft that can go there, by then you may not have to be a member of NASA or any other international space agency to go there. Some private corp may buy the dam thing.
