I don't want to hear about realities on our Earth NOW, I want theoretical physics & stuff. Learning about how climate change can & will affect our species is BORING. I don't need a wake up call, I prefer to SLEEP IN! Neil bangs the drum on what IS happening- I want more junk on distant worlds & shit!
Facts concerning OUR PLANET is just like the dentist telling you that you have a cavity- sheer politically motivated nonsense to promote an agenda. Al Gore's teeth look good, don't they? That's because he's lying in between them!
Scientists don't know shit about science, if they were any good at what they do, they'd be gainfully employed like the doctors that approved of smoking to reduce stress and help you digest your meals or the nutritional experts that showed us the health wonders of consuming loads of margarine.
Pure science has no place in America, apart from wasting our tax dollars when they could be used for more prisons for dangerous drug offenders using drugs at home & promoting clean fracking of our lands to help wean us off Islamic Terrorist-controlled oil.
Neil deGrasse Tyson is a Truth-Wing thug, pure and simple.
He doesn't even show enough respect for society at large to pick a solid Left or Right stance on anything.
The punk.

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

Hey, If you want to hear about the end of humanity as we know it, just read SignyM and KIKI's posts, or some of your own.

I was impressed by the idea that life on Earth has been pretty much wiped out several times, and has restarted - either by the small remnants on the planet, or small bits of life from the ejecta of previous meteor impacts. This gives me the idea that the resilience of life would indicate that if it can happen here, it can happen in other places in the galaxy/universe.

Also, it makes me feel that in the (I believe unlikely in the next several hundred thousand years, or longer if we get off the planet in an interstellar way) event humans are just another species headed for quick extinction, something else will come along.

Fine with me.

Geezer, you betray yourself here as a voice of the vocal voice of the Librul voice's corrupt Librul voice's agenda.
You tree-hugging Commie bastard!
You just don't like the idea that rich folk's beachfront properties will have more water access as the water rises. Yeah, I see your anti-freedom inclinations.
God, guts, guns & GMO will save this world, no thanks to gay-loving God-rejecting fact-checkers like YOU.
Buy a SpaceX rocket & LEAVE, you dumb dummy!

So much easier to be a fatalist and not try.

Though I guess it makes it easier to justify the years of denying the problem in the first goddamned place.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Hey, If you want to hear about the end of humanity as we know it, just read SignyM and KIKI's posts, or some of your own.Gosh, what was it Chris, isall posted? Something about .. I don't remember. Nuclear winter? Bubonic plague? Supervolcanoes? Solar EMPs? It was something ... whatever. I'm sure it doesn't matter to your reply. (Oh, and if you ever missed an opportunity to mis-represent someone's post, I haven't seen it.)

I was impressed by the idea that life on Earth has been pretty much wiped out several times, and has restarted - either by the small remnants on the planet, or small bits of life from the ejecta of previous meteor impacts. This gives me the idea that the resilience of life would indicate that if it can happen here, it can happen in other places in the galaxy/universe.Because you see, I'm SO philosophical about the broad sweep of time, I can afford to shrug off global climate change and the ongoing and future extinction of other life forms on the planet.

Also, it makes me feel that in the (I believe unlikely in the next several hundred thousand years, or longer if we get off the planet in an interstellar way) event humans are just another species headed for quick extinction, something else will come along.
Fine with me.
Because I have PROOF we'll never turn it into another Venus! Destruction of our environment? Meh. But touch MY POLITICS and you've crossed a line!

OONJERAH - We are too dumb to live and smart enough to wipe ourselves out.

We're About To Learn A Lot More About Area 51
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/17/area-51-exhibit-re-opens_n_53
41248.html

"When the National Atomic Testing Museum of Las Vegas opened
its "Area 51: Myth or Reality" exhibit two years ago, it became an
instant hit. It wasn't just the only place that had a comprehensive
knowledge of Area 51 -- it gave a venue to former employees of
America's top secret military base to present their involvement in
declassified projects.

"Today, the museum is expanding. ...

1989: "During that year, KLAS-TV news reporter George Knapp pub-
licly broke the Area 51 story after an interview he conducted with Bob
Lazar, who claimed to be a government physicist performing research
on recovered alien technology at the top secret Nevada military base.
Lazar's story included allegations of a campaign of intimidation against
him."

The Mole Men had better weapons.

That's Jeff Corey with Lois and Clark. SF fans may remember him from Star Trek's "The Cloud Minders" and from Babylon 5's "Z'ha'dum".
