Later this year I expect another high quality story with the headline: "Massive Blizzards Prove Greenhouse Gas Not Real". There will be satellite images, too.

Well, that is rappy- thinking his backyard... or a single event ... represents an entire history. I think he understands the word "decline", what he can't quite wrap his brain around is "long term" or "worldwide". It's too big. It makes his tiny brain hurt.

Yes. And the very long term is that our sun will eventually run out of fuel, expand and cook this rock to a charcoal lump.

And there's nothing we can do to stop that.

Gore was wrong, so VERY wrong about the arctic being ice free. In fact, it's got more ice than it had. Looks like a trend to me. Same w/ the antarctic. More ice.

More is more than less.

And Sig - you think that the ice build up was a 'single event' ? Really? Pretty sure that's not how it works w/ arctic ice. Takes what ? Time.

Yep... it shrinks in summer, and grows in winter. But OVER TIME.... decades, not a couple of months or a couple of years... Arctic ice has shrunk. That's what they mean by LONG TERM... something beyond a day, or a month, or even a decade.

Nope. I'm not wrong, you are.

There IS more ice now than there was 2 years ago. FACT

I didn't make up the story, out of thin air, the story exists because of the very fact that there is MORE , not less ice in the arctic.

More is greater than less.

Decades really aren't all that significant in geologic or planetary time.

1000's or even 10,000's of years only begin to make sense then.

But the anthropomorphic bias that we view things, oh yeah, a few decades is a long, long, long, long time.

If any year is not the very worst on record, then (and this is the exact spot their thinking gets fuzzy and confused) the problem does NOT exist! If you wanted to claim that greenhouse gases can NOT change climate, you could easily twist the following story into your proof, if your mind is inclined in that direction for personal reasons:

Ice is low, but record unlikely
August 19, 2014

Arctic sea ice extent is well below average, and large areas of low concentration ice are observed in the Beaufort Sea and along the Siberian coast. However, it is highly unlikely to set a record low at the end of this year’s melt season. Antarctic sea ice extent remains at record highs. http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/2014/08/ice-is-low-but-record-unlike
ly
/

Summarizing, this year is not the worst on record for arctic sea ice, while on the opposite of the world the sea ice is doing well, therefore NO PROBLEM. See how easy it was to solve the greenhouse gas problem? No understanding is required and you have made a major problem vanish into hot air.

So I'm still waiting for a cohesive response from climate change skeptics about whether the a) the climate is changing, but it's not due to manmade causes or b) the climate is not changing or c) the climate is changing due to manmade causes but not as fast as predicted or e) the climate is changing due to natural causes but not as fast as predicted

because it seems that what climate skeptics believe is all over the shop, sometimes they are saying that climate change is happening but there is nothing we can do, sometimes crowing with joy that the weather is very cold, sometimes crowing with joy that the weather is not as cold as predicted.

It's like watching eggs being scrambled.

Magons if you haven't already, see the 'The Quantum Theory of Climate Denial thread'.

You're right, there's no orthodoxy to climate change skepticism. They all believe different things, and some like Auraptor hold all of these beliefs in their heads at the same time, and change fluidly between them, e.g. "Climate change is not happening, and humans are not causing it, and the effects are nothing to worry about..."

It's not personal. It's just war.
