He's in shock and he doesn't know what to do. Years ago he said repeatedly that because he grew up in a Muslim country and understood them, they would not be hostile to Americans. As to ISIS, all the scenarios suck. There's no one worth fighting FOR.

Fox & the GoP hav a great plan!

Blame everything on Obama bekuz the next election iz the only thing that matterz.

Just kuz Bush failed to finish the job that Reagan started duznt mean it cant be dun. Think uv Obama az a delay at worst and at best, an opportunity to widen the divide to make for an even bigger fall.

ISIS wanted us to stop our limited air campaign against them.

I think we should.

And start an unlimited air campaign against them.

Weird. Last time I checked, Congress was empowered to declare war. Wonder where they are during all this. What have they been so busy with for the last year that they have been completely unable to address this?

More dithering from the Amateur OF Chief -

Destroy vs managing isil.

Quote:

During a joint news conference with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves in Estonia ahead of the NATO summit in Wales this week, Obama spoke of managing ISIL as well as his plans to “degrade and destroy” the group. Critics charge that his comments set two conflicting goals for dealing with future violence.

Let's see, in the past few weeks you've been angry over admitting to a rescue attempt, and now you're angry over not admitting to any further plans.

Seems you've got your head rather further up your own ass than usual.

Meanwhile, you've yet to come up with *ANY* plan for dealing with them, all while crying and blubbering about someone else not having a plan (because he hasn't shared it with you personally via facebook, one presumes).

Obama too cautious over ISIS - Feinstein (D-CA )

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/30/feinstein-obama-cautious-isis

In a tough letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday evening, Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) said he was “troubled” by statements indicating the administration lacks a comprehensive military strategy in Syria. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) channeled many Republicans’ rhetoric on ISIL in asking the administration to clearly articulate a comprehensive strategy to take on the extremist group. And Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) lit into Obama’s goal to make ISIL a “manageable problem.”

Again, what is your plan? Specifically regarding Syria, what do you propose? What are you telling your congressional representatives that you'll support?

Do we support Assad, or do we support the rebels, ISIS among them?

Do we send in troops, or do we stick to no boots-on-the-ground? (And remember, if we send in airstrikes, that means boots on the ground, because invariably we lose a plane or two and have to mount rescue missions, which you're pretty clearly against)

So give us your plan. Show us your foreign-policy expertise. You're quick to point out the failings and shortcomings of the Obama administration, so what's YOUR plan?

Or will you be like that *other* so-called libertarian, Rand Paul, and oppose military action before you turn around two days later and support it?

Asking that is a straw man. No one else is President and Commander in Chief. No one else has been getting daily briefings on the Islamic State for over a year. No one else sees the problem with as bi-polar clarity as Obama, who says I.S. will be destroyed, followed by saying how I.S. is a problem to be ' managed '.

Send them to hell, just like Joe Biden so boldly claimed. Not merely manage them, like they're some sort of money market account.

At least Rand Paul comes to a decision, and doesn't switch positions in mid speech, giving allies and enemies no CLUE from where he comes. Funny, when others have a change of view, they're flip-flopping. But with Obama, he ' evolves '. Well, many from his own party have evolved to the point where they think he needs to do more. Not just give disjointed, schizophrenic speeches on the issue.

Are you suggesting that killing them is definitely *NOT* managing the problem?

BTW, you still haven't given us your detailed plan. You're very upset with the president for not laying out all the details, but you haven't laid out even one. You were mad when he admitted to trying something before, now you're mad because he's not saying in advance what we're going to do. It must be a weird place inside your head, living with that howling vacuum and complete lack of logic.

You claim that "no one else has been getting daily briefings" - can you prove that? Can you prove that nobody in Congress, the NSA, the CIA, or Homeland Security has been getting such briefings? "No one" is an awfully large and all-encompassing term.

"Send them to hell"... how, exactly? Again, you've laid out less of a plan than the president you're so upset with. You claim superiority and a higher level of expertise than the president and his administration, who you constantly belittle as "naive" and "amateurs", so what's your plan? Lay it out already! Show us what you know that these "amateurs" can't figure out.

Biden said send them to hell. So is that YOUR plan for dealing with them? If so, you'll have to admit that the administration (Biden is part of the administration, right?) has at least as good a plan as you do.

As for being curled up in the fetal position, I'm not the one panicking over rumors of some allegedly missing airliners that pose zero threat to the U.S. That would be you, for the record.

As for the "blame W" bit - who was it who invaded Iraq in the first place and gave ISIS a perfect place to gain power, wealth, and territory? Did "W" *NOT* put that into effect?

I heard an interview a week ago with an Iraqi who said that, when he listened to various ISIS tapes, even those made in Iraq, there was hardly an Iraqi accent among them. What he detected, more than anything, was a Tunisian accent. I have to say, I was a bit skeptical, I thought this guy was blowing smoke, but then I ran across this on Zerohedge ...

Where do ISIS fighters come from?

There are two surprises here...

Jordan is one. Jordan, if you recall, is like an aircraft carrier in the desert. That is where we keep a detachment of Patriot missiles and F-16s, and where we were training anti-Syrian "moderates" (at least some of whom were ISIS).

Jordanian radicalism didn't appear on the radar. However, I did find this...

Jordan's King Abdullah "Playing With Fire" (2012)
Quote:

The king, who is already facing widespread criticism for failing to implement real reforms and combat corruption, has begun to flirt with the Salafi [Wahhabi] group in a desperate bid to win its sympathy. By flirting with these fundamentalists, King Abdullah is also hoping to win them to his side in his confrontation with the kingdom's popular and influential Muslim Brotherhood.
This could be why Jordan allowed anti-Syrian Salafis to be trained there.

And what's with Tunisia? Another bolt out of the blue?

Radical Islamists seize control of Tunisia mosques (2011)
Quote:

(Reuters) - Radical Islamists have seized control of 150 to 200 mosques and prayer halls around Tunisia this year, a senior religious official said Wednesday.

Official control over Tunisia's 5,000 mosques and small prayer halls has relaxed since the January revolution that toppled autocratic president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, allowing radicals to occupy some of them, Jamel Oueslati told Reuters.

So the Arab Spring went straight from autocracy to jihadism?

The fighters are from various places, the arms and money from Saudi Arabia and Qatar; in their race to control Libya, Egypt, and Syria they competitively flooded the area with dozens of planeloads and boatloads (literally) of arms.

We can fight ISIS in Syria and Iraq (Although I'm not sure our government wants to; it may still see some utility in these jihadists) but there is clearly a massive movement going on, and jihadists will keep turning up from the unlikeliest of places. Unless we want to keep playing whack-a-mole, we have to figure how to stop radicalism in the first place.

Now see, THAT is actually a plan. Might seem like a Crazy Eddie kind of plan, but that might be exactly what's needed.

I long ago proposed bombing Cuba with Care Packages full of Twinkies, Coca-Cola, McNuggets, and more junk food, with notes explaining that this is what we call "JUNK" food - the kind of crap we throw down our gullets when we don't have time to eat anything good.

And then just sit back and watch the walls crumble as they realize what they're missing.

Bombing them with bombs is exactly what HASN'T worked, ever, in the Middle East, Afghanistan, or Iraq. We already know what won't work; let's try something different for once.

Overall, the President (whoever he or she is) needs to cleanly identify what our long-term interests are, as he or she perceives them, and to explain them plainly to us and to the world.

Our foreign relations (and public relations) problem is that the USA does not offer a coherent narrative. We say that we're for democracy, but we deliver something entirely different. We say that we want to decrease corruption, and yet we can't seem to become less of an oligarchy ourselves. The advantage that the jihadists have is that their narrative is -so far- coherent. Their actions and their words are consistent. If we're going to win the PR war we have to do the same.

President Obama called on Congress to authorize use of military force against Syria. The response? Crickets.

Prior to that, he got a lot of flak - including from YOU, right here on this board - for unilaterally ordering military action (air strikes) against Libya.

So quit whining about what HE is doing, and start talking to your idiots in Congress.

So as you've just shown, you'll complain when Obama takes action, you'll complain when he doesn't, and you'll support any Republican when they take action, and support them when they don't.

I'm starting to sense a pattern here. I'm beginning to think you're nothing but a partisan hack.

How many American servicepeople died in the Iraq War?

How much money did we spend on that war, so far?

Show me where I've got it wrong. I'm all ears, as Ross Perot would say. Show us what you know.

Name ONE expert who agrees with what he's doing.

Because all the ones I've heard speak on the matter, as well as members of BOTH parties in Congress tend to agree that he's dithering and bumbling, and not doing much of anything at all. More of the 'day late, a dollar short ' routine.

And he's flip flopping, so much so, that he can't even keep a straight story with in the context of one gorram SPEECH !

You're basically full of go-se here. He's not pursuing any real outcome, because you can't claim he's trying to destroy ISIL while at the same time.

The reason you do not know what the plan is and when it will transpire is because you are listening only to the voices of descent. Shortly, in a few weeks you will see a multi national force made up of Middle Eastern and European forces begin to dismantle ICEL.

As I said a month ago. If we go right in the others will let us do it alone. This would only cause more problems. Obama in effect has said to the rest of the world, no, you are coming with us. He knows all Europe is worried about returning fighters and every Arab nations rulers understands ICEL is coming for them. His approach is to hold their feet to the fire by not rushing in alone.

Worth noting is that the go-to guy for conservatives, the duck derp, offers the same solution to ISIS that they offer to others: Convert or die.

But yeah, they're the crazy ones. Only them. Sure thing.

TH what ever...

Ron Paul, the kook himself, is the ONLY member of Congress, from EITHER PARTY , who thinks what Obama is doing is right.

Obama Has No Middle East Strategy? Good!

Last week President Obama admitted that his administration has not worked out a strategy on how to deal with the emergence of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as a dominant force in the Middle East. However, as ISIS continues its march through Syria and Iraq, many in the US administration believe it is, in the words of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, a threat "beyond anything we have ever seen."

Predictably, the neocons attacked the president's speech. They believe the solution to any problem is more bombs and troops on the ground, so they cannot understand the president's hesitation.

Also, why do you INSIST on referring to the terrorist group as ICEL ?? Seriously, what's up w/ that ?

EC - Funny, General Dempsey says we DO have plan, while Obama continues to dither.

Quote:

"The United States military does consider ISIL [ISIS] a threat to, initially to the region and our close allies, longer term to the United States of America," Dempsey said in a keynote speech to the annual Aspen Security Forum, according to The Washington Free Beacon.

"And therefore we are preparing a strategy that has a series of options to present to our elected leaders on how we can initially contain, eventually disrupt, and finally defeat ISIL over time."

No that's what the spin doctors turned it into. What he was saying was until they had recruited the right players he was not going to rush in, speculate or make a move without understanding who would do what or how and when do we get out. It's a Bush senior approach as apposed to a Bush junior cowboy response. Which could be argued started this shit. The rest are posturing for their constituents due to the upcoming elections.

I stopped posting as much because to put it bluntly, many of you are just to stupid to be bothered with.

According to what you just posted, Dempsey said we DON'T have a plan. Read it again. "And therefore we are *preparing* a strategy..."

Sounds like your source just contradicted the very thing you say it proves.
