The just-turned 17 year-old won the LPGA Tour event last weekend in California. It was her third LPGA win. 17, with the maturity, composure, talent, and tenacity of a seasoned pro, just amazing! She flew to Orlando Wednesday to appear on the Golf Channel for two hours. Smart, poised, humble, and funny, she renewed my faith in today's youth. I salute her!

I saw her standing by the range ball machine
Knew she had only just turned seventeen
I want to take her home
To help my slice be gone, gone, gone, gone

Singing I love Lydia Ko
So put another tee in the tee box baby
I love Lydia Ko
So c'mon play a round of golf with me.

She smiled, so I got up and asked for advice
But my timing was bad 'cause she was eating some rice
She said "go away you dirty old man
Before you piss off my boyfriend Tran"

And next I was moving on, yeah me
Next I was moving on, I had to flee, yeah flee

Singing I love Lydia Ko
So put another tee in the tee box baby
I love Lydia Ko
So c'mon play a round of golf with me.

Today, November 23, 2014, 17 year-old Lydia Ko made golf history ... again!

.. She had the largest pay day in the history of the LPGA :

$1,000,000 for winning the year-long CME Race for most points earned in 2014.

and

$ 500,000 for winning the CME tournament ... took 4 playoff holes to do it.

.. She's the only player, ever, man or woman, to have five pro tour victories before the age of 18.

.. She finished the year ranked #3 in the world.

When asked after the win what she was going to do with all the money she said "I don't know, but my mom really wanted this expensive bag, so I think I'll get it for her."

The Korea-born New Zealander is the biggest star back home since Flight Of The Conchords.

LPGA jokes aside, that's pretty damn awesome.

I enjoy watching her play the game. After a grueling 4 hour final round she fights back to get into a playoff. They go on to play the final hole 4 more times after just playing it in regulation, walking the full length of the 425 yd. hole each time. And she's cool, calm, smiling and having fun every minute of it. I've been watching golf for 30+ years, mostly the PGA, last few years the LPGA too, and I've never seen anything like her.

Yeah, it all started when Se Ri Pak came out of nowhere in the 90's to become the youngest player (at the time) to win the U.S. Open. Her success on the LPGA Tour inspired millions of young Asian women to take up the game, and soon she was followed by Grace Park, then Yani Tseng, and now the best player in the world is Inbee Park. Asian women represent half of the current top 25 players.

Oh jeeez ... don't even mention Ryder Cup at least for another year and a half. Recent history is too painful to think about.

I remember seeing , in person, some amateur play his first Masters in Augusta National.

Tiger something.

I think he did pretty well.

So after her amazing finish in 2014, how's 17 year-old Lydia Ko doing so far in 2015? Oh, okay.

.. She became World number 1 ranked player in January.

.. After becoming number 1 in the Rolex World Rankings and feeling the pressure of that title, she went on to win 2 LPGA Tour events in a row ... the Australian Open and the New Zealand Open.

.. This week in one of her rounds she made 9 birdies in a 10 hole stretch.

.. She has now won 10 tournaments as a professional and still hasn't reached her 18th birthday. 99% of professional tour men and women golfers don't win 10 tournaments in their lifetime.

.. She had Lasik done at the end of last year, so her trademark glasses are gone. I kinda miss them. Oh well, girl's gotta see.

.. And she keeps it all low key and humble.

Are you related to her?

I have not seen any televised event recently with her in it. Does one need to get Golf Channel to see her? Saw Hahn recently win the 3-way playoff, but heard nary a word about Lydia. Is her play able to be seen on TV, like maybe late at night or something?
