New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, one of the state's most powerful Democrats for more than two decades, was arrested on federal corruption charges on Thursday, the FBI said.

Silver, 70, a lawyer whose tenure as speaker since 1994 has outlasted governors, mayors and many other politicians, has been under investigation by federal prosecutors in Manhattan and the FBI. Silver has served in the Assembly since 1977.

According to published reports, the charges stemmed from payments he received from a small law firm specializing in seeking reductions of New York City real estate taxes.

Silver, a political power broker who represents Manhattan's Lower East Side, is known as one of Albany's "Three Men in a Room," along with the governor and Senate majority leader, who negotiate the state budget and key legislation.

The arrest of Silver will likely spark political upheaval in Albany, the state capital, less than two weeks after he opened the new legislative session.

Looks like liberals, as usual, won't rally around him like conservatives do when one of theirs gets in trouble.

You're trolling again.

GOP members haul ass and step down, at the slightest hint of wrong doing.

Unlike Dems, who treat their crooks and liars like rock stars - Bill and Hillary Clinton, Charles Rangel, Ted Kennedy , Anthony Weiner, etc...

I guess Alabama's house speaker Mike Hubbard missed that memo. Indicted on 23 felony corruptions counts, he got handily reelected to his house seat, and then the house GOP membership reelected him to the speakership.

You were saying?

This story is about a STATE legislator, you fucking dipshit. You really are an absolute fucking moron, aren't you, you cuntly troll?

And I only need post one example to prove you completely wrong.

Shall I add Bob McDonnell, Chris "The Outlaw Jersey Whale" Christie, Michael Grimm, or Rick Perry?

All are either under investigation, indicted, or convicted, and none of them stepped down at "the slightest hint" of wrongdoing.

The list is nearly endless, too.

Looks like more NY dems headed to the slammer ...

U.S Attorney Warns Albany, NY, Lawmakers to 'Stay Tuned'

Thursday, 22 Jan 2015 06:54 PM
By Cathy Burke, Business Insider

"The U.S. attorney who filed corruption charges Thursday against one of the most powerful politicians in New York state is warning other Albany lawmakers to "stay tuned."

"These charges in our view go to the very core of what ails Albany: lack of transparency, lack of accountability, and lack of principle — joined with overabundance of greed, cronyism, and self-dealing," federal prosecutor Preet Bharara said Thursday in announcing charges against New York's State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York wouldn't elaborate on cases his office is juggling, keeping the details vague. "We have been looking at Speaker Silver's outside income for some period of time. ... We have number of public corruption investigations going on," he said. "I'm not going to tell you which people we're looking at."

Silver was arrested by the FBI on federal conspiracy and bribery charges that carry up to 100 years in prison and could cost him his political seat. He was released on $200,000 bail.

The Democratic lawyer was accused of lining up jobs at two firms and then accepting money — much of it disguised as "referral fees" — in exchange for using his power to do political favors, according to Bharara.

Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo reportedly came under scrutiny by Bharara for ending his own anti-corruption commission last summer. Bharara took files from that commission and used them for his own probes, including the one that led to charges against Silver."

He may rat out others and that would be sweet. Governor Cuomo called off his own State Attorney's investigation into corruption w/o any explanation, so the Feds are surely looking hard at his ass - ets. And the Fed. prosecutor did say to "stay tuned". Who knows, enough dems may be hauled off to leave Republicans in control of the NY state govt.
