Strange sounds in the sky

Sun nite, I wanna take a break from the lunacy of temper tantrum political yak-yak.

This seems to be cropping up on some other boards, for some reason. I guess since it's still not been figured out, some folks think it's worth asking about it again.

I think seem to recall some story or mention of it , a while back, but never paid it no mind. Since then there's dozens of youtube vids from around the world ( but none from Africa, oddly )

What IS this strange sound from the sky? Noise heard across the globe for nearly a DECADE - but nobody has an explanation

ange-sound-sky-Noise-heard-globe-nearly-DECADE-explanation.html

snopes even has a bit on it, but as of yet, no explanation given.

Did ya see the vids of the creepy horn like ones ? Some liken it to the sounds the tripod machines made from war of the worlds.

I'm inclined to think maybe it is, but then the question is still " how ? ".

These sounds are damn loud. Even with using a tornado siren, ( which I've heard plenty ) I doubt they could reproduce them.

I do find it interesting how once the daily mail reports it, the story goes out all over. Some videos go back to 2008. This didn't just happen last week or even a few months ago.

I do not have a need to know how they do it. Why they do it in some cases is for the attention. The point is, is that it is a nefarious undertaking that does not deserve serious contemplation.

You can overlay a sound track on a video, people do it all the time. (ETA: Or, as Snopes mentioned, you can play a soundtrack close to your smartphone mic to make it sound loud.)

In one video, there are about six people who appear to be scanning the sky. You and five of your friends could do that, and then overlay sound. In another video (the one with the child supposedly "frozen in terror") nobody appears to be running out of the houses to investigate. Nobody appears to rescue or comfort the child. I wonder if the "child" is a mannequin, and the sound (again) overlaid on a video. Other videos appear to be just shots of the sky, on which sound can (again) be easily overlaid.

Most of the noises sound orchestral - cellos, brass instruments (trombone anyone?), percussion section, possibly woodwinds, recorded in a echoing room or with an "echo" (delay) added electronically. It sounds like a soundtrack from something. But since several of the landscapes themselves don't appear to be able to generate echoes (You need large, flat, semi-vertical surfaces - like cliffs or mountains - to generate an echo.) and many of the landscapes are relatively flat and featureless, the sound quality doesn't fit the landscape. However, echoes DO make a noise sound "bigger", as our brain calculates the probable distance from the delay, and we assume that any sound that can be echoed over such a large distance must indeed be very loud.

This reminds me of the UFO pictures that were so common "back then", and crop circles. The ONE picture that nobody could explain ... was finally explained by the person who mocked it up: He tossed an aluminum pie dish in front of a piece of glass, such that the image reflected into the camera, as the camera was filming the sky and trees beyond.

Anyway, I'm convinced it's a prank. Just people funnin' ya.

Might be a prank. Crop circles did come to mind.

And there are other sounds too. Not directly associated but also on the YouTube.

One caveat ... The sound also appears during a Tampa Bay baseball game. On tv.

Strange Sounds Tampa Bay ballgame 2012.

( go to YouTube and search w/ above title )

Granted, the sounds seems muffled, as the stadium is domed, but the announcer remarks ' close the door', indicating it was coming from outside. And yes, you can easily dismiss that as a track being layered over stock baseball footage as well.

Here's a site which has the locations reported, many of them w/ video.

Keep in mind I post with you knowing your philosophy on many an issue. The confusion on your part over noises on a video posted on YouTube, just confirms you are void of critical thinking skills.

And that my dear Rappy, explains a lot about what your philosophy is on this or that subject.

Taking pointers from 1kiki I see. The fact is I explained it all, and as with 1kiki, you have no response other than to dismiss what I have said by suggesting it does not answer your question. No surprise there, I'll try again. The video is a fake and you're not to bright if you can't figure that out for yourself.

As for me being a troll, I understand from experience that most down here are exactly that, trolls. So no surprise I treat you as one. So, the video ( all of them ) , is fake?

Snopes can't even go so far as to declare it a hoax.

Guess they're not bright enough to see it either.

But you could have just said so, from post #1, and left off all the nonsensical , uncalled for ad hominems.

And yet, you didn't. You spent more time demeaning and insulting me for the crime of posing the question as to what these sounds are than explaining how and why they're fake.

You've offered exactly nothing to support your claim, or explain the HOW and WHY they're fake.

Unless the strange sounds were recorded by someone you know and can trust in the real world beyond the internet, and I do mean trust in a really real person, not just any fake name on the internet, your curiosity is wasting your time. Good post TWO. At first I thought I would interject something cool from a verifiable source, like the sound our planet makes as recorded by NASA. I did not put much stock in the fact that Rappy was suggesting his video may be legit. I was surprised to learn he was serious. I still tried to approach the topic without being to condescending, yet he continued to insist a person should waste time contemplating how it was done. Something like windows movie maker would allow a novice to create any of these web videos.

My solace comes from understanding that Rappy is the guy who also believes 90 plus percent of the worlds scientists are wrong when it comes to global warming, and this shows his inability to receive, perceive and then process information clearly . He is simply not someone who thinks things through, he just reacts.

Funny, you buy into that tripe, yet blindly dismiss me asking what these sounds were. Unlike you , the cynic, I was clearly showing skepticism. One of us knows the difference.

Fact of the matter is I was right in my skepticism, when I said they sounded like they came from the movie ' War of the Worlds '. Turns out, this guy said exactly that, a few years ago.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

And you believed it without bothering to cross check.

How naive.

But since the WSJ 'article' quotes no specific quotes and cites no specific cites from the original paper it pretends to discuss OR from the sources it claims were 'misclassified', it's difficult to disagree - or agree. It would be extremely easy to link or quote any or all of the points they claim in their favor. That they fail to do so indicates they can't back up their statements.

The WSJ author is also not above YOUR favorite trick, rappy, which is straw-manning. The WSJ author claims "The question Cook and his alarmist colleagues surveyed was simply whether humans have caused some global warming." But that's a lie. The paper examines a variety of levels of endorsement about human-caused global warming:
(1) Explicit endorsement with quantification - Explicitly states that humans are the primary cause of recent global warming
(2) Explicit endorsement without quantification - Explicitly states humans are causing global warming or refers to anthropogenic global warming/climate change as a known fact
(3) Implicit endorsement - Implies humans are causing global warming. E.g., research assumes greenhouse gas emissions cause warming without explicitly stating humans are the cause

... on through no position, uncertainty and ultimately to explicit disagreement.
It then provides statistics on each general category - but since tables don't copy well, you can find the figures here; http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-9326/8/2/024024/article

The WSJ author then goes on to dismiss the paper for asking the 'wrong' question - a question it lied about when it 'restated' it. The question is meaningless regarding the global warming debate because most skeptics as well as most alarmists believe humans have caused some global warming (note - no data or cite to back up THIS claim, either). ... Either through idiocy, ignorance, or both, global warming alarmists and the liberal media have been reporting that the Cook study shows a 97 percent consensus that humans are causing a global warming crisis. However, that was clearly not the question surveyed.
And yet, that's EXACTLY the question it very SPECIFICALLY answered in its categorizations.

Investigative journalists at Popular Technology* looked into precisely which papers were classified within Cook’s asserted 97 percent. ... Cook and his colleagues, for example, classified a peer-reviewed paper by scientist Craig Idso as explicitly supporting the ‘consensus’ position on global warming “without minimizing” the asserted severity of global warming.

And here's where a link, or set of links, to the specifics would help support the WSJ author's honesty. But as I stated at the start, there is no list of the papers examined, or of their classification by the original authors. The WSJ 'reports' - at length - a series of claims that, frankly, sound childish. Is TOO!!! Is NOT!!!!! For something that says it's looked at the data, it provides exactly zero data in support of itself.

* And about the 'source' the WSJ author so freely channels - 'Popular Technology' ... here are its editors:
Editor - 'Andrew K' (Computer Analyst)
Copy Editor - 'Karl' (Computer Scientist)
Contributing Authors - 'Doug' (Computer Engineer), 'Mike' (Electrical Engineer)
There is no listing of its funding ... its editorial board ... or its positions. And all - ALL - of its links regarding global warming are to deniers. That's what I call impartial. (And that's what I call irony.)

Meanwhile, when it comes to the question 'how many climate scientists support AGW' (and that IS the population you want to look at), the question has been asked and answered MANY different times by MANY different people.

Doran 2009
Subsequent research has confirmed this result. A survey of 3146 earth scientists asked the question "Do you think human activity is a significant contributing factor in changing mean global temperatures?" (Doran 2009).
Anderegg 2010
This overwhelming consensus among climate experts is confirmed by an independent study that surveys all climate scientists who have publicly signed declarations supporting or rejecting the consensus. They find between 97% to 98% of climate experts support the consensus (Anderegg 2010).
Vision Prize
Approximately 90% of participants responded that human activity has had a primary influence over global temperatures over the past 250 years, with the other 10% answering that it has been a secondary cause, and none answering either that humans have had no influence or that temperatures have not increased.

And one skeptic who originally disputed the results had to retract that position based on the data:
Benny Peiser, a climate contrarian, repeated Oreskes' survey and claimed to have found 34 peer reviewed studies rejecting the consensus. However, an inspection of each of the 34 studies reveals most of them don't reject the consensus at all. The remaining articles in Peiser's list are editorials or letters, not peer-reviewed studies.
Peiser has since retracted his criticism of Oreskes survey:
"Only [a] few abstracts explicitly reject or doubt the AGW (anthropogenic global warming) consensus which is why I have publicly withdrawn this point of my critique. [snip] I do not think anyone is questioning that we are in a period of global warming. Neither do I doubt that the overwhelming majority of climatologists is agreed that the current warming period is mostly due to human impact."

Ultimately this is an effort to address the lies of deniers - that scientists are significantly divided or uncertain about the existence of, or human cause of, global warming. They are not.

It assumes that people who can't be convinced by facts - and who are too lazy or stupid to do independent research into the basics - by, for example understanding how a greenhouse works - might possibly be receptive to the opinions of genuinely knowledgeable people.

But as we know, among deniers, beliefs come first. And facts only exist if they support beliefs.

SAGAN: We are releasing vast quantities of carbon dioxide, increasing the greenhouse effect. It may not take much to destabilize the Earth's climate, to convert this heaven, our only home in the cosmos, into a kind of hell.

1kiki - you'll just talkin circles and dismiss any and all claims which go against your cherished and tightly held beliefs.

I get that.

I really do.

Point is, there is no " consensus" , as science does not and never has worked that way.

Plus, I can see for my own eyes, over mere decades, that things aren't falling apart.

But that really is for another thread.

Or not. As this matter is closed.

links? cites? logic? Or did you just do a rappy ... You offered no proof. No explanation. ... and then you proceeded to insult any further discussion on the matter.

I did offer links and proof, and all you do is dismiss it out of hand and talk b.s.

You're an AGW cultist, and there's no talking to you on this matter.

Can you read? Or actually do anything other than lie?

Apparently not.

I didn't just 'dismiss it out of hand' - I DISCUSSED it in detail - with multiple quotes, links, data, comparisons and logic. All those things you are so averse to.

So, regarding MY post - did you discuss it? Or did you just do a rappy AGAIN ... dismiss it out of hand ... You offered no proof. No explanation. ... and then you proceeded to insult any further discussion on the matter.

Yes, I'd much rather believe my own eyes than the lies of those who have motive an agenda.

There’s plenty of stupidity in the world, and much of it imagines itself wise. But in my experience people who declare confidently that “scientists don’t understand X” usually turn out to be wrong both about X and about what scientists understand. Often what they imagine to be a big conceptual or empirical failure of science is just a failure of their own comprehension. Do they comprehend at least that? No.

So, much like the sky-sound nonsense , this thread has degraded into another intentional hoax... man made climate change.

Obama spoke today about the threat of global warming, while ignoring Ramadi.

That is how completely out of sync w/ reality these idiots, and their sycophants, are with world in which we live.

Josh Earnest yaps about setting our hair on fire , metaphorically, as ISIS has taken Ramadi, while ISIS LITERALLY SETS PEOPLE ON FIRE AND BURNS THEM ALIVE !!!

I'm done w/ this nonsense.

Feel free to start a thread where you praise the almighty carbon credit, or some such nonsense.

SIGNYM

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I told you right way why I thought it was a series of hoaxes, and pointed out the evidence. But rather than re-state what I wrote, why don't I just quote myself:

Quote:

You didn't notice any of that???

Apparently, you have NO idea how to do an analysis! (But, what am I saying? We've known that for YEARS.) That leaves you vulnerable to what people are "saying" about something, which means that you tend to believe what some people (Limbaugh, Bush, Beck, Koch etc) tell you, about all manner of things (WMD, global warming, racism) while completely ignoring the evidence in front of your face. Instead of looking across the internet for people that you agree with, next time - before you make a total fool or yourself again- why don't you look AT THE EVIDENCE? TRY NOT TO MENTALLY CENSOR IT, even if (no, ESPECIALLY IF) you don't like what it's telling your. That's your biggest defect, you reject clear in-your-face data if you don't like it, or if you don't have an explanation for it.

Yanno, RAPPY, I'm beginning to think that you're intellectually challenged. So, are you? Have you even been dx with anything?
