The participants of the first annual U.S. Climate Modeling Summit (USCMS), held February 11, 2015, have published a report describing key outcomes from the summit, including an outline of a common vision and unique roles for each of the country’s six premier climate modeling centers.

Also, we have finite resources. And by that I mean the GOVERNMENT has finite resources. Wasting time and $ trying to promote a naturally occurring variation in planetary climate makes exactly zero sense.

Use that energy and $ to better the lives of humans living NOW. Help the poor. Repair and upgrade infrastructure. Stop flying idiots all across the globe in fuel guzzling planes, to stay in 5 star hotels and waste all manner of food, for meaningless conferences which amount to zilch in impacting either the climate or the lives of ANYONE.

That word "naturally" is as purely political as it gets. Naturally, ExxonMobil, the American Petroleum Institute, the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation and the Southern Company are funding that very idea. People are paid to spread a notion on the internet that climate is all "natural", all the time, completely untouched by mankind.

The Koch Brothers want to be the first Trillionaires in history. If the Koch Brothers were more widely known to be dumping Gigatons of CO2 into the air every year, they might not reach their goal of being the richest brothers in the world. CO2 is invisible, so it is not obvious who dumped it from where. The Koch Brothers want to keep things that way: invisible and not obvious. Climate scientists paid by NOAA are standing in the way of the Koch Brothers.

It was a nice rhetorical gambit to be concerned for the poor. All that money being wasted on computing climate models could be better used to help the blah-blah-blah. Except nobody believes you care about the poor.

The fallacy of relative privation or appeal to other problems, is a fallacy in which it is suggested an opponent's arguments should be dismissed or ignored on the grounds that more important problems exist, even though these issues are often completely unrelated to the subject at hand.

While repairing our infrastructure is important, changes due to global warming are going to contribute to the poor suffering more than society can possible hope to cope with.

You did not read those two articles in the Guardian, did you? The Koch brothers said, through their paid spokesman, that they have a first amendment constitutional right to say any lie about climate change they want and they have the right to pay people to repeat that lie for them and that the Koch brothers have the right to not self-incriminate before the Senate about their motives and about their "facts" and how the Koch brothers "proved" those "facts".

There is a philosophical problem: Are Koch brothers liars when they have people selling an idea that has not been proven true? The idea has already made hundreds of billions for the Koch boys, so philosophy be damned. And the Koch brothers don't have the honesty to say that this political message has been paid for by the Koch boys.

Those boys know they are crooked.

The poor would have fewer worries and would be wealthier if they paid attention to this article: http://www.csmonitor.com/Environment/Energy/2015/0519/IMF-report-A-5-t
rillion-case-for-ending-fossil-fuel-subsidies-video

The poor will not bother themselves to read and understand the article, so they will be staying poor. The IMF’s new report has found that global fossil fuel subsidies could cost $5.3 trillion in 2015 alone. The findings reflect a growing chorus calling for reforms in energy subsidies. The wealthy certainly do not want reforms for a system that made them wealthy.

This is why almost nobody feels like engaging you on this topic. Your mind is made up and - worse- your head is in the sand. Despite the fact that scientists are pointing to events which haven't happened since the entire existence of homo sapiens and before, as far as you're concerned, "no changes" are occurring.

You panic over shit that's inconsequential (at best), like Saddam's degraded 20-year-old WMD fragments, and you deny events that are massive, and real. In other words, you live in a fantasy world, like all stripe of believers. So, believe on, little boy. The universe doesn't need your belief to roll over you. And while you're flattened like road pizza on the highway of life, you'll STILL be denying that anything happened.

WASHINGTON—Co-authored by several dozen of the nation’s top climatologists, a new climate change study released Wednesday by the U.S. Global Change Research Program reportedly consists of 400 pages in which scientists just tell Americans to read previous climate change studies. “Not sure if you saw this one from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change from 2012 about how rising sea levels are putting billions of people in coastal cities at risk, or L.G. Thompson’s 2009 paper on the loss of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers, but really, you should check them out,” read the study in part, which is titled “The Global Climate At Risk: A Broad Survey Of Climate Change Reports That We’ve Been Publishing For Decades And That You Should Actually, Seriously Read.” “Look, there are hundreds of studies on Greenland’s rapidly melting ice sheet alone. If you could just skim the abstract of one of those—just one, that’s it—that would be great. They’re all online, and our JSTOR password is USGCRP90, so you can go and check one out right now.” The report is said to conclude with a single exasperated 28-page run-on sentence urging people to “just come on and look at these damn things, for the love of God—what more do you want from us—Jesus, this is ridiculous.”

NASA satellite data suggests the polar ice caps are not shrinking

“A 10-percent decline in polar sea ice is not very remarkable, especially considering the 1979 baseline was abnormally high anyway. Regardless, global warming activists and a compliant news media frequently and vociferously claimed the modest polar ice cap retreat was a sign of impending catastrophe. Al Gore even predicted the Arctic ice cap could completely disappear by 2014. ( We're now in 2015, and the Arctic still has its ice cap. )

The point that is lost to you Rappy is that you are putting your opinion before that of the worlds foremost climate change scientists. A lot of the people who think like you do still believe that god created this planet ten thousand years ago, and in intellectual design.

I followed your link. It is a small story written by a guy who offers his opinion. He makes claims and sends you to others who make the same claims. They use statements from the 50's to make their case today. Well they were right in the 50's about global warming but their timing was off a bit. Science has come a long way since then and we can measure things better today, 65 years later. That the polar ice caps are the same today as in 1979 as stated in one of the links provided is total bull. I posted a video here called chasing ice that proves that statement to be completely false. Watch the video.

I provided you with proof. No way you watched it that quickly, but as I said to magonsdaugther, researching for the truth is not what you are about. Look up CO2 gases Rappy. That is what causes warming. Taking the measurements and doing the math is very evolved, but knowing what causes warming and keeping track of the gasses responsible are not.

c02 accounts for 0.03 of our atmo. Many climate scientists even doubt that it drives warming, and in fact may be the result of it instead.

Apparently you are not bright enough to realize that if you sent a spaceship into space between the Sun and the Earth, you would freeze to death without a heated space ship or suite if you stepped outside the ship. It is 60 degrees outside where I am right now. Your photo suggests all the earths warming is due to the Sun. As I said, no point in arguing with Archie Bunker.

The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,901.55 miles, The ozone layer is about 30 miles from the Earth's surface. If you leave the hose running in the pool, eventually the pool fills.

The current episode of global warming has been attributed primarily to increasing industrial CO2 emissions into Earth's atmosphere. The global annual mean concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased markedly since the Industrial Revolution, from 280 ppm to 400 ppm as of 2015. The present concentration is the highest in the past 800,000 years and likely the highest in the past 20 million years. The increase has been caused by anthropogenic sources, particularly the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation

Each year we dump this into our atmosphere, each year Rappy do the math. The Sun is 93 million miles away. Our ozone is only 30 miles up. It traps everything we put there each year and it accumulates.

Climate Change Pollution (CO2) = 85 Tons
Ozone-Causing Pollution (NOx) = 325 Pounds
Acid Rain Causing Pollution (SO2) = 411 Pounds
Small Particulate Pollution = 43 Pounds
Toxic Lead Pollution (Pb) = 1.2 Ounces
Toxic Mercury Pollution (Hg) = 0.04 Ounces
Climate Change Pollution (CO2) = 27 Tons
Ozone-Causing Pollution (NOx) = 102 Pounds
Acid Rain Causing Pollution (SO2) = 129 Pounds
Small Particulate Pollution = 14 Pounds
Toxic Lead Pollution (Pb) = 0.4 Ounces
Toxic Mercury Pollution (Hg) = 0.01 Ounces

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

So, once again - these are well established facts determined from many measurements made by many people over many years using many types of technologies that show that total ice amount is decreasing everywhere on the globe.

Rappy, how do you ignore these facts?

SAGAN: We are releasing vast quantities of carbon dioxide, increasing the greenhouse effect. It may not take much to destabilize the Earth's climate, to convert this heaven, our only home in the cosmos, into a kind of hell.

Funny is right, tell that to my World Environmental History professor. What you know about the subject would make a seventh grader chuckle. Look at this way, everyone arguing with you is pretty much saying, hey stupid, wake up.

1kiki - I don't know what sort of psychological, compulsive condition you have, but I'll say this one more time.

I don't ignore those things, I just don't see them through the narrow view finder which you're looking.

Think bigger.

Think MUCH MUCH bigger.

The Earth is older than a few thousand years, kiki.

Yep Rappy, we do agree there is a problem there.

The age of the planet has nothing to do with global warming. The fact that it has survived this long means it is durable, more so than man. Our end is what we are trying to avoid. That said, man has not only proven itself to represent the greatest natural threat to all other living things, man has also proven itself to be the greatest natural threat to the planet itself.

The science of global warming relies on measurements. Scientists not only know how to read temperatures, and gage whether there is more or less ice on the planet (depth needs to be measured it can’t been see with the naked eye), they also have learned how the makeup of chemicals in the atmosphere is responsible for changing the climate. It’s simple, CO2 changes the climate and man manufactures CO2 sending it into our atmosphere by the ton. If you actually read this far and bother to read the rest you will see naturally occurring events contribute as well. If we can change what we do that contributes to the Earths warming, then we owe it to future generations to do so. They may have had the timing of ice melt wrong in the 50’s, but their urgency for change was dead on.

“Gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect are known as greenhouse gases. After carbon dioxide, in order of importance, they are methane, nitrous oxide and CFC’s (chlorofluorocarbons). The atmospheric concentrations of these other gases have also been rising. Methane is released from paddy fields, farm animals and natural gas fields, and its concentration is increasing at about 1.2 per cent per year. Nitrous oxide is released as a result of the use of nitrogenous fertilizers. CFC use has been reduced and will cease altogether because of its damaging effect on the ozone layer. The relatively small amounts of water and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere absorb and re-radiate heat from the earth to bring about the greenhouse gas effect. Scientists are concerned that adding more CO2 to the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels may upset the natural balance. As the earth warms a little due to increased CO2 in the atmosphere, a little more water evaporates from the sea. This further increases global warming.”

Yes, but the last time carbon dioxide was this high, humans didn't even exist as a species. THE EARTH is billions of years old and THE EARTH will survive being a Venus-like oven, but PEOPLE WON'T.

If anyone needs to think bigger, it's you.

You can't read, can you ? Or comprehend very well, at least.
Explains so very very much.
Facts ? You're looking at the universe through a paper towel tube. Widen your horizons.

And did you just do a rappy AGAIN? ... You offered no proof. No explanation. ... and then you proceeded to insult any further discussion on the matter.

Here's where your self-important pronouncements fail as discussion, and count as simply more of your assholery:

You trot out false, biased, incomplete and/or irrelevant facts AS IF they're relevant to the topic - MY BACK YARD is still the same! - Arctic sea ice EXTENT means global ice isn't disappearing!

HENCE (in your shriveled thing that substitutes for a brain) there's no global warming!

Then when accurate facts are presented that counter your argument, you bail on the discussion and make pronouncements that THOSE facts don't matter because - you have some kind of feeling about the topic.

What do you have to say SPECIFICALLY - based on evidence and not on your 'feelings' - about the fact of the global disappearance of ice? Is it happening? Is it significant? If not - WHY is it not significant? Does it not indicate a global change in climate? Does a global change in climate not show the earth is entering into new and unpredictable state? Does that new and unpredictable state not create a problem for the survival of large numbers of humans and whole species (both already under threat or already gone)? Is the endpoint of this process KNOWN to be benign in the long term? Or can the rocky mass we call Earth still exist, but as a Venus?

What I get about you, little rappy, is that unless your masters at FAUX tell you there is an immediate threat TO YOU - MUSLIMS!!!! - you are serenely unconcerned. YOU think - no, think is too strong a word - you ASSUME, because your masters at FAUX told you so, that global warming will have a trivial effect ON YOU (unlike say, MUSLIMS!!!!). So you are unconcerned about whether or not it is happening, which is why you're so inane about your 'facts'. And even if it IS happening, you assume, because your masters at FAUX told you so, your money and location in the US will protect you from any major effects.

YOUR assumptions are very, very, very small. About the size of your immediate body.

And my only regret is that I'm too old to be able to tell you 'I told you so'. Because while we'll see major effects in YOUR lifetime, they - hopefully - won't be in mine.
