I did. I learned that these two men hate each other more than any Presidential contenders I've seen in a long, long time. They could not look at one another, and would not engage each other as moderator Lehrer urged them to. It was awkward to watch, and more than a bit cringeworthy at times. That said, here's my take :

Obama stood strong against McCain's area of perceived strength, Foreign Policy. They both scored and faltered during the economic section. Overall, I'd have to score it a tie. No knock out by either.

That means that Obama wins on many levels. I won't explain that because I think most here can figure that out for themselves.

But most importantly, I was very disappointed with McCain's harsh tone, and his ongoing condescending attitude, and his blatant dis-respect for Obama. I mean WTF John? You work in the Senate for 26 years in a bi-partisan way, and you don't have the ability to behave as a seasoned gentleman and look Obama in the face as a man??? Again, I'm sitting there cringing over the ridiculousness of McCain's heavy-handed and un-fair nasty attacks against Obama. Presidential Debates are expected to be respectful and dignified for the most part, with occasional strong jabs. McCain was like a nasty, bitter old man, and he came off extremely poorly.

I believe his ill-advised strategy was hastily constructed by his inner circle, an inner circle I am rapidly growing sick of. Everything they've done since rolling out Palin has been in my opinion a disaster, and last night only made it worse. And as some of you may know, I'm no Obama supporter, but I really didn't tune in last night to take a stroll down memory lane with obscure references to the past. Obama clearly came off in the debate as the man looking forward. McCain had a bad night mainly because he came off as mean spirited and narrow minded. The "Maverick" looked more like the guy in Top Gun who kept spilling coffee on himself, while Obama was buzzing the tower.

I agree with what you said - I'd score it as a tie as well, which defaults to an Obama victory since it was a debate on McCain's perceived strength. Just this part I don't agree with:

After Lehrer's recommendation that they address each other, Obama looked at McCain repeatedly, McCain just didn't respond.

I learned that Lehrer is an excellent moderator. He only butted in when he had to, and all the questions, except the last one (9/11 - ugh), were good.

This isn't my signature. I have to type this every time I make a post.

I learned that if you take a shot of Ballantine's every time McCain claims Obama "doesn't understand" something you'll be on the floor by 6:30.
