If she had said she was for it, she would have won and been put in a movie with George Clooney. Maybe they can find a roll for her on 24?

I heard about this, and the 'judge' is some gay activist, trying to make a political statement. It's customary to NOT ask contestants about political or religious issues, and yet they hoped to sabotage Ms California, knowing in advance her views.

He should be censured, of course, but he won't be, not in this P.C., upside down world.

Hello,

I found this quote curious:

"It's ugly," said Scott Ihrig, a gay man, who attended the pageant with his partner. "I think it's ridiculous that she got first runner-up. That is not the value of 95 percent of the people in this audience. Look around this audience and tell me how many gay men there are."

It's Miss California USA, who answered a question by a gay activist judge (perez hilton) for the pageant produced by another gay activist (Keith Lewis). The gay activist judge later explained that her answer to a question which is normally not allowed in the pageant was the sole reason she did not win the title.

I conjured the most appropriate question would be this: why are Female Beauty Pageants being produced and judged by GAY guys? Why cannot they judge their GAY pageants and let Hetero Men judge who we like to represent Female Beauty? Why are Hetero Men allowing Gays to dictate who we should consider attractive to Hetero Men?
THAT is seriously twisted.

Speaking of twisted, why should hetero men be th sole judges of female beauty? As a woman, I have some serious opinions about it, myself.

And I sincerely doubt that a beauty pageant is supposed to dictate hetero men's norm of beauty. I doubt it's about hetero men at all.

ETA: I tend to think it was inappropriate to ask the question, but then I'm not very familiar with beauty pageants. What sorts of questions are usually asked and what are they supposed to test? If she had declared that she believes women ought to not vote and not work - upon being asked - would that legitimately influence the judgment?

Never heard of Gay-dar ? You don't think a gay man can tell whether other gay men might be at an event which is likely to attract other gay men or not ? A beauty pageant isn't exactly the standard hang out for gay men, I'm guessin'.

Bingo. I tend to think of beauty pageants as being pretty close to the gayest things ever. The women are so overly tarted-up that they end up looking like drag queens. If you're a straight man and you're that hard up for something on TV to whack it to, just give up and go get yourself some porn. Jesus won't mind, I promise.

Consider the illogic of having people who are not attracted to females, sometimes repulsed by female sexuality, and/or find the thought of heterosexual sex with females repugnant to be the arbiters of female attractiveness - if that isn't obviously illogical, you should stay away from sci fi forums.
The questions asked are not to delve into politics or religion. Apparently weather is allowed. Other contestants where not asked political questions, only this contestant was singled out, clearly an unfairness perpetrated by the gay activist.
Knowing that the questions are not allowed to be political or religious and then being sandbagged by an obvious political question in violation of the contest rules should have resulted in the judge being disbarred from the contest.

It would be less illogical for gay guys to be judging the gay studmen pageant, or gay drag pageants (which they exclude hetero men from judging), or even lesbian women to judge a female beauty pageant (beacuse they at least find females sexually attractive instead of repulsive).

By having the gay producer select the activist gay for judging females, the implication seems clear that they consider one type of sexual orientation to rule over an opposite sexual orientation to be preferable, so they should be overjoyed that this contestant agreed that one sexual orientaion (heterosexuals) should control the opposite sexual orientation (homos) - otherwise they prove themselves the epitome of hypocrity, not that logic has any standing among gays.

I had no idea you were gay. You must be, though, since you also seem to subscribe to the "hypocrity" that one group should have control over another. How else do you explain the "heteros" trying to decide whether gays are good enough to be married?

And seriously, I've never known a straight man who watched these beauty pageants.

I think the illogic is yours in assuming that all beauty must be related to sex or sexual attraction.

Or assuming that finding the thought of sex with a woman repulsive means finding THEM or their beauty repulsive.

I don't generally want to have sex with women and there are plenty men I don't want to have sex with and it's not a direct correlation to whether or not I consider them beautiful. I consider women generally more beautiful than men, and there's a number of men I'd class beautiful but am not attracted to.

And yes, what I find beautiful in women or men might be different from what their prospective sexual partner might find beautiful in them. But neither are they necessarily diametrically opposed things, and when you take into account every one's opinion, I'm sure you can arrive at a standard of beauty that meets most people's taste.

I find it silly to tie beauty to sexual attraction.

Then it is like I suspected unfair and I agree with you that the judge was in the wrong.

You're losing me there.

I agree that the judge was in the wrong for dragging politics into what should be a politics-free zone, but by the same token you should leave the sexuality of the judges out of the concept of beauty pageants, because I doubt most of them are there to Be Oppressively Gay, but instead to enjoy a frilly event with pretty women and voice their opinion on aesthetics and other merits of the contestants.

Why does it not occur to you to broaden beauty beyond the scope of sex? Surely you yourself consider people and things beautiful based on more than only sexual attraction?

Her answer is contrary to my own, but I didn't think it was delivered in a malicious of offensive way. She said she loved her country. She said she thought it was great that states could decide for themselves, but for her personally she was against. I am one who thinks she was targeted because she is CA. It was not a fair question for the pageant (been in a pageant myself). I didn't watch the competition so I don't have an opinion on who deserved to win. My opinion is she was sandbagged.

See, there you go again. I question a Gay man judging women ( like they know what qualities to even look for ), and you quickly distort my point. Typical.

The vulgar and tasteless remarks that the queer judge ( I won't bother mentioning his name, and yes, I'm TRYING to be derogatory towards him by using that term ) later made about Ms California are what should have disqualified him , more than anything. That's where his true character ( or lack there of ) was on display. He's so far beneath the contestants he judged, it's a joke.

So I ask you to look at your remarks in another light, from another point of view, and I'm trying to "distort" your point? YOU question a gay man wanting to try to tell you anything, yet you don't see the hypocrisy inherent in telling HIM what is and isn't right. You question a gay man's ability to appreciate female beauty, yet you set yourself up as the arbiter of what constitutes love and marriage - especially for gays!

Yes, your hypocrisy IS quite typical.

You find his remarks so vile and tasteless that the first thing you go to is calling him a "queer" - as if that isn't vulgar and tasteless in and of itself. And you admit that you're TRYING to be derogatory towards him, so don't try to weasel out of that one. So YOUR vulgar and derogatory remarks about the gay judge should disqualify you from having any say about him - at least, according to YOUR logic.

And yes, we've all seen your TRUE character. Or lack thereof.

Ha ha ha ha, my lady's "pair" would have you in awe, my poor, desperate friend. I know they do that to me!

*hopes my Wife doesn't find this in poor taste...*

SCREW IT! They're real, and they're spectacular!

I dislike that they couldn't just respect her honest opinion, but I accept their judgement of beauty; I as a straight male can comfortably say that Johnny Depp & Bruce Lee are and were beautiful men. You need to remove those biased glasses before shooting your mouth off about that which you have prejudices about, AU.

Yup, Chris - I dislike that they even asked her the question. It's a loaded question that has no place in a beauty pageant. I disagree with her answer, but she got a raw deal, because ANY answer would have had about half the crowd pissed off, it seems.

'Course, it's not like I was ever going to listen to Perez Hilton for advice on... well, ANYTHING. Not because he's gay, but because he's just tacky.

It's that Latin blood- here, just for "pair" reference, think Salma Hayek from Desperado...

Without that question, she had the title. All other aspects of the contest placed her total in first place. Only the ZERO that perezhilton gave her knocked her down to 2nd place. The Gay Activist thought that one facet of the contest outweighed all other considerations enough to merit giving her a zero. She knew the title was in danger once he sandbagged her, and yet she stood true to the truthful answer and answered honestly, which is far better than could be said for him.
It's a shame that the dishonest and deceitful person was the judge (and is being celebrated), and the honest person was penalized for being honest and not deceitful about a topic not even allowed to be broached.
I had understood the primary purpose of the Q&A for pageants was the exposure of poise, the smooth reply to a question which may or may not require thought, in front a of a live audience. Similar traits are tested by debate teams and game shows. Performance under pressure. I did not see Miss CA stutter or break out in hives even though she was being sandbagged and knew it, thus she showed the best poise of all contestants, but yet was penalized for it. Really a shame, and gays should feel collectively ashamed that their self-proclaimed spokesgay has revealed his rabid intolerance.

I see the points from both sides, and I don't really have a problem with gay men judging a beauty pageant. Just Perez Hilton judging one. I don't like that guy at all. Mind you, I'd have to say, them judging this is a bit like me judging the 'hottest guys'. I'm not saying I don't have an opinion, but, me not being gay, it's mainly just personal opinion and based on what the person seems like, rather than what that person looks like. Hugh Jackman anyone?

But yeah, I don't see why this should have cost her the pageant, as someone else said, she gave her opinion, and if it's a 'beauty' pageant, where alot of it is these women walking around in skimpy little outfits, why should it matter what her opinion is. It's almost like if she said "I dislike Perez Hilton" and lost because of it.

Anyway, the point is, stop talking about CiA's ladyfriend. Or don't. I'm just worried about YOUR safety here guys!

Honestly, I think that's how the blow-hard took it.

I agree that the jerk should not have even been allowed to ask the question to begin with and it's probably because of this that judges will now have to have their questions pre-screened (I doubt it) OR these questions will be allowed after all (more likely).

I mean really. The guy's question AND response should have been taken into account when tallying the scores OR someone should have seen his score then gone to him and said, "You're score should be based on HOW she answered the question (poise, confidence, personality, etc.), not whether or not you liked it personally because of your orientation." To say he was obviously there with an agenda . . . ? That's a possibility and to think otherwise may be naive. People like him ALWAYS have their personal agendas in the forefront of EVERYTHING they do. He's a gay activist. That's the heart and soul of everything he does. He almost can't help himself in trying to get other people to make fools of themselves while pushing his train of thought into the spotlight and then mercilessly mocking them for it and, in this case, penalizing them for it.

I don't have a problem with gay men judging these pageants. I think recognition of beauty is universal, but subjective as well. There are some people out there who are considered quite stunningly beautiful by the general public, like Kate Moss, that I have to wholeheartedly disagree with IMHO. She's a stick figure with a very average face.

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

The 'tangent' ? Well, it WAS the Miss USA contest. I think female beauty is sort of implied.
