America loves a winner!

Not MY words, but the words of former CIA Director, Porter Goss.

Quote:

Security Before Politics

By Porter J. Goss
Saturday, April 25, 2009

Since leaving my post as CIA director almost three years ago, I have remained largely silent on the public stage. I am speaking out now because I feel our government has crossed the red line between properly protecting our national security and trying to gain partisan political advantage. We can't have a secret intelligence service if we keep giving away all the secrets. Americans have to decide now.

A disturbing epidemic of amnesia seems to be plaguing my former colleagues on Capitol Hill. After the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, members of the committees charged with overseeing our nation's intelligence services had no higher priority than stopping al-Qaeda. In the fall of 2002, while I was chairman of the House intelligence committee, senior members of Congress were briefed on the CIA's "High Value Terrorist Program," including the development of "enhanced interrogation techniques" and what those techniques were. This was not a one-time briefing but an ongoing subject with lots of back and forth between those members and the briefers.

Today, I am slack-jawed to read that members claim to have not understood that the techniques on which they were briefed were to actually be employed; or that specific techniques such as "waterboarding" were never mentioned. It must be hard for most Americans of common sense to imagine how a member of Congress can forget being told about the interrogations of Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed. In that case, though, perhaps it is not amnesia but political expedience.

Let me be clear. It is my recollection that:

-- The chairs and the ranking minority members of the House and Senate intelligence committees, known as the Gang of Four, were briefed that the CIA was holding and interrogating high-value terrorists.

-- We understood what the CIA was doing.

-- We gave the CIA our bipartisan support.

-- We gave the CIA funding to carry out its activities.

-- On a bipartisan basis, we asked if the CIA needed more support from Congress to carry out its mission against al-Qaeda.

I do not recall a single objection from my colleagues. They did not vote to stop authorizing CIA funding. And for those who now reveal filed "memorandums for the record" suggesting concern, real concern should have been expressed immediately -- to the committee chairs, the briefers, the House speaker or minority leader, the CIA director or the president's national security adviser -- and not quietly filed away in case the day came when the political winds shifted. And shifted they have.

Circuses are not new in Washington, and I can see preparations being made for tents from the Capitol straight down Pennsylvania Avenue. The CIA has been pulled into the center ring before. The result this time will be the same: a hollowed-out service of diminished capabilities. After Sept. 11, the general outcry was, "Why don't we have better overseas capabilities?" I fear that in the years to come this refrain will be heard again: once a threat -- or God forbid, another successful attack -- captures our attention and sends the pendulum swinging back. There is only one person who can shut down this dangerous show: President Obama.

Unfortunately, much of the damage to our capabilities has already been done. It is certainly not trust that is fostered when intelligence officers are told one day "I have your back" only to learn a day later that a knife is being held to it. After the events of this week, morale at the CIA has been shaken to its foundation.

We must not forget: Our intelligence allies overseas view our inability to maintain secrecy as a reason to question our worthiness as a partner. These allies have been vital in almost every capture of a terrorist.

The suggestion that we are safer now because information about interrogation techniques is in the public domain conjures up images of unicorns and fairy dust. We have given our enemy invaluable information about the rules by which we operate. The terrorists captured by the CIA perfected the act of beheading innocents using dull knives. Khalid Sheik Mohammed boasted of the tactic of placing explosives high enough in a building to ensure that innocents trapped above would die if they tried to escape through windows. There is simply no comparison between our professionalism and their brutality.

Our enemies do not subscribe to the rules of the Marquis of Queensbury. "Name, rank and serial number" does not apply to non-state actors but is, regrettably, the only question this administration wants us to ask. Instead of taking risks, our intelligence officers will soon resort to wordsmithing cables to headquarters while opportunities to neutralize brutal radicals are lost.

The days of fortress America are gone. We are the world's superpower. We can sit on our hands or we can become engaged to improve global human conditions. The bottom line is that we cannot succeed unless we have good intelligence. Trading security for partisan political popularity will ensure that our secrets are not secret and that our intelligence is destined to fail us.

Porter Goss is a punk, and worse, an incompetent punk, a politically reliable ladder climbing ass kisser who made it up the line by stomping on his "friends" with spiked boots and using preparation H for lip gloss.

Just think of the intelligence version of Bill Gates, with all the malice and none of the competence.

And now because he's scared of winding up holding the bag, or having to fall on his sword, which at times is the JOB of the goddamn CIA director, you need not look any further than Colby for that, who did take it like a man - instead of this incompetent bitch Goss who rolls over and sings like a canary with the drizzle shits unaware of the irony of a blackops director who can't be trusted to keep his fucking mouth shut.

Of COURSE they're lying to save their ass up on Capitol Hill, of COURSE Pelosi is full of shit, everyone from top to bottom knows this, including joe public, and what Goss is doing here is a rather transparent and pathetic attempt to save his own ass by selling out his bosses, oh yes, that's JUST the kind of talent and dependability you want in Intel/BlackOps isn't it now ?

His inability to keep his fucking mouth shut was in large part why he didn't hold that post for very long, and the hypocrisy of him whining about a knife in his back even as he slams one home himself isn't at all lost on anyone.

And this phrase just makes me laugh.
"There is simply no comparison between our professionalism and their brutality."

Since the bad guys HAVE pulled some of this shit off on us quite easily in light of the CIAs complete incompetence and preference for targeting their supposed protectees instead of the enemy, compounded with idiots like Goss who can't keep their mouth shut and consider political reliability more important than doin the job, and further abetted by brutal inquisition type tactics that not only had no real chance of remaining secret, but don't even work on a functional level despite what watching too much TV might have you believe.

Goss should fucking know better, and the fact that he does not is a far more damning thing against him than anything else that could be said.

We *know* Pelosi is a liar, we don't need a so-called intelligence "expert" who cannot even pretend to behave like one pointing out the bloody obvious to us while just as obviously selling out his agency and superiors to try and save his own miserable, cowardly, incompetent, partisan ass.

I'm glad that, during the time spent blaming the messenger, that you were at least honest enough to admit that his message was dead on accurate.

Again, it's not so much to praise Goss as to show what a miserable, incompetent lying sack of go se Nancy Pelosi is, as the head of the Democrats in Congress.

They're BOTH miserable, incompetent, lying sacks of shit, when it comes right down to it, neither one of which should be trusted with a fuckin flyswatter, much less the apparatus of the State.

But *YOUR* problem with them is their political affiliation, much like the nimrods that put that shitheel Goss in charge despite those simple facts.

Your own rabid and insane level of partisanship has blinded you to the obvious concept that most of america hates that bitch, and rightfully so!

But if she was a (R) instead of a (D) you would STILL be fucking cheerleading everything she did, and then when it blew up in spectacular fashion, claiming you didn't...

Kinda like you've been doing for quite a while now, and folks putting known incompetents in office for reasons of political reliability is one reason things are so fucked up, and one reason YOU, specifically, have nothing whatever to say on the matter because your all fucking for it, long as they're politically reliable to YOUR side - which makes you part of the problem, and naught more than an obstacle, in the way.

And it's embarassing to watch you throw a temper tantrum when the very tactics you and the rest of your mindless ilk approved, cheered and enabled wind up used against you despite being warned time and time again that this would be the exact result of such behavior and thus I feel not a whit sorry for you.

That said, Pelosi is one of them folks who damn well oughta be impeached, her and Conyers, both of whom utterly failed in their duty to their offices and their constituents, and even discounting various stupidities of economics, Barney has a damn lot to account for as regards corruption and perversion, so don't never for an eyeblink moment think I like the sumbitches folks like you ENSURED would gain power by supporting known incompetents out of sheer partisanship till the american public couldn't stomach it no more.

Mark my words, I *will* get to them, in good time.

But first and foremost, the danger you and your ilk present must be sufficiently and *permanently* eliminated, broken not just for a couple years till they can sleaze back in on the incompetence of our current crop of morons, but broken for all time and if at all possible, utterly destroyed.

And to be honest, I WANT you to see it coming, I want you to stare into the very face of your own armageddon and squirm, knowing full and well that you and those like you, were the very enablers of your own destruction.

In the end, handing folks like me everything we needed to demolish you and your stinking neo-feudal-fascist lords on a silver platter, just like I said.

And while the morons your own blind negligence lofted into power are busy choking you and yours down, imma build a noose for them too.

And for all your frantic flailing, all the blame lies only as close as the nearest mirror.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Thanks, Frem.

And yes, Rappy, the thread title IS a bit redundant. It's like saying "I can't believe what a liar a professional liar is". It's what she does; it's what ALL politicians seem to do. Birds gotta fly, fish gotta swim, and apparently politicians gotta lie...

What saddens me is the realization that WE are the ones who put her there - and not because she was the GOOD choice, but purely because she was the "less bad" choice at the time. And that's how THEY ALL GOT ELECTED - by being seen as not quite as shitty a choice as the other guy.

How sad is that? How unfortunate for us as a people that we've come to this - not expecting the best of our elected officials, but merely hoping they're not quite as bad as we suspect them of being?

As I believe Sarge has pointed out, they only lord over us because we let them. They only lead because we keep following.

I'm sick and damn tired of politicians who leave Washington after lining their pockets with OUR money - it's supposed to be a job you do out of necessity, and it's supposed to pay a mere pittance, but when's the last time you saw someone at the end of their term who wasn't immeasurably wealthier than they were at the beginning?

Anyone remember the footage of Bill Gates getting hit in the face with a pie? It embarrassed the hell out of him, by the look of it. I'm proposing that we all start hitting our politicians in the face with pies as often as possible. Let's remind them in no uncertain terms that THEY work for US, and that we view them as a necessary evil at best, and as the brunt of our jokes the rest of the time - until they EARN our respect.

We let them.

We don't pay attention to what they are doing and that is why they get away with it.

Obama was a lesser of 2 evils. But its still evil.

And, btw, Im gonna propose that his being the first black prz is a good thing. Not because hes the end result of hippie-lib wet dream..

But because the whole world is keeping an eye on him. Yeah, the news is falling all over themselves (not to mention prostrating in front of) to record his "historic" presidency..but its a good thing.

Because EVERYONE is watching what he does.

He can't get away with SHIT without someone seeing it.

And there are folks (like Frem) out there who are ready to pounce when he fraks up. Which he has been and will continue to do.

Chris was echoing the sentiments of Frem, as they both seemed more interested in name calling rather than dealing w/ the over all, and FAR more important, issue.

Just as Hillary did when asked about the secret documents that Cheney suggests should be released, in full.

Ergo, both were sounding like Hillary.

Seems you, once again, missed the point.

I especially love the sweet irony of YOU of all people trying to tell others that they've missed the point, or are sidestepping the issue. After I had to hound you for damn near a week to get you to even READ the goddam question, and then you give some half-assed piss-ant non-answer and claim that you've answered it and now you're done.

Yeah, you're one to judge.

Hmmmm... What did you title this thread?

"I can’t believe what a shameless liar Pelosi is"

Who's bitching, who's whining, and for what reason, again?

C'mon, Rappy, you've been pissing and moaning since Election Day, and for no reason at all, and to no effect whatsoever.
