I've been quite astonished at the prices of .44 Magnum revolvers - I mean by how CHEAP they are, relative to other handguns. I saw a few places where I could pick up an old Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum for around $389. Sure, it's *only* a six-shooter, but if you can put 6 round of .44 into something and still need more, then as Frem says, you don't need more gun - you need a freakin' EXORCIST! Mike I love the big Smith&Wesson N-frame revolvers. New, they are pretty expensive, but used ones start at around $450. Some think the old spur type hammer is primitive, but I think they look cool. They shoot like a dream, and because of the heavy frame, recoil is tolerable. I see they're even making them in .41 Mag again, a caliber that has never quite gained the popularity it deserves. I like carrying a stainless Model 657 in my trunk for a backup piece, just in case I need to shoot through to engine block of a Mack truck.

Those are the ones I can recall right off the top of my head.

Those are the ones I can recall right off the top of my head. Pretty good memory, but I believe the N-frame .357 is the Model 27. The Model 19 is a lighter K-frame .357 revolver. I know why the Model 19 stuck in your head, it's IMHO one of the top two .357 revolvers ever made. Made popular by the famous US Border Patrol agent Bill Jordan. They haven't made them for quite a few years and they can be expensive in mint condition. They continued to make the stainless version(Model 66) for many years, so they are more commonly seen. Being a lighter frame revolver most would recommend not shooting .357 Mag. loads for practice, because they can damage light frame revolvers over time. Most seem to do OK shooting .38 specials for practice, with an occasional .357 thrown in to get the feel for the Magnum load.
