Are any of you feeling the recovery yet?

FYI- I'm not. My house price is off 30% from peak (but still 2X what I bought it at) I'm still hammered at work by lack of staff. Do more with less? If I could hire Les, I would! Fortunately, my job is secure.

But my health insurance premioums just went UP $600/mo! EGAD!!! Can you believe it???? And I'm trying to get our disabled daughter into Medicare so that when she turns 25 she WILL have health care, because with her pre-existing condition she'd never be able to GET private insurance much less afford it!

Ummmmm... Maybe?

We've been very slow for most of this year, but we've actually only LOST money in two months of the year. There have been voluntary cutbacks of hours and pay, but we've managed to keep the doors open. Many of our competitors haven't been so fortunate. As it stands, we're current on our bills and have no outstanding debt, but we're still on the skin of our teeth.

HOWEVER, in the last few weeks, we HAVE seen our orders and future ship dates trend markedly upward, which bodes better for autumn than we'd dared hope just a few weeks ago.

It's too early to say, but we just might make it through all this. And if we do, we'll be stronger for it, and we'll have a wide-open marketplace in which to prosper.

Hopefully.

Let's just say I'm cautiously optimistic.

The company my wife worked for wasn't so fortunate; they went belly-up in February.

Meh, I'll always have work just because of my skill set, a friend put it best...

"Son, you ain't never gonna go hungry for long, cause long as there's three people left on this ball of muddy water, end of the day, someone... is gonna want someone else's ass kicked."

Besides, no matter HOW bad it gets, having someone to secure your stuff isn't a bad idea, and the worse things get, the more valuable that service becomes.

It's not QUITE as bad as this link makes it out to be downtown, but it's getting there...

Dow has been up for quite some time, not surprised are you? Markets are up 45-57% since 9 March when obamination finally STFU about destroying the economy with stimulus.

If you bought your house when you were supposed to (the low price), you'd have gained 50% or more on that as well. Remember, your house is not an asset, it's a liability - don't forget that.

Yep. I'm feeling the recovery, as long as Barry shuts up about destroying the economy more, and Congress leaves town in Aug. I'm making my plans for all the debt payoffs I'm going to be doing, and how to time them most effectively.

House is a liability if you owe $$ on it, which we do not. (Bought low, paid cash. Has saved us zillions in potential rent and/or interest payments.) OTOH, if the stimulous is really going to create inflation -as many think- then NOW is the time to BORROW. Along those lines I should take out a loan on our house, get the gubmint to pay about half of our interest rate, and pay it back with worthless money later.
