Oh, that's rich - they pay you with an IOU, then ask you to pay the taxes on it IN REAL MONEY.

Fuck 'em - send 'em an IOU. What are they gonna do, claim that's not legal tender?

Certainly not a Barrett, and certainly not a .50. And really not even a sniper rifle, by the look of it. Looks to be more your garden-variety hunting rifle, most likely something along the lines of a Remington 700. SWAT teams like 'em, but real snipers prefer something with a free-floating barrel to it doesn't "string" shots as it heats up - which is ironic, because a good sniper isn't going to fire often enough to heat the barrel to lose accuracy in the first place!

But as to my avatar... it's not my picture. I stole the pic. Actually, DreamTrove stole it. Or borrowed it. He brought it to me, so I used it because that was an awesome thing of him to do.

BTW, I'm still trying to talk the wife into letting me pick up a Barrett. She's not too keen on it, since there's really nowhere to shoot a rifle with an effective range of over a mile (confirmed kills in Afghanistan at over 1.54 miles now), and even less enthused when the cost of good ammo runs to $5 a round or more... Plus, what would I ever *need* such a thing for? Still, a big part of me wants it, just because.

For now though, I'm happy with something simple like a 7.62x39mm (good out to 100 yards), 7.62x54r (great out to around 300 yards), or .308. Currently I'm angling for a 5.45x39mm Saiga or Polish Tantal, since the ammo is about half the price of 7.62x39 ammo.

Hello Mike,

J&G in Prescott has Noisy Nagants (Moisin Nagant M91/30) chambered in 7.62x54R for 80 bucks. You can't beat that with a stick.

Way ahead of ya, T - That's where I got my M44! You can't beat them with a stick, but if you COULD beat them with a stick, you could also use them as the stick you beat them with. Damned thing is a beastie. The noise and concussion from it is enough to run most enemies off, or at the very least leave them hollering "WHAT?! WHAT??!" for the next thee months. And if you run out of ammo, it makes a damned fine battle club. And of course, there's also that bastard of a 14" spike bayonet that's permanently attached.

And to think, the Red Army used to give a scoped version of these rifles to their sniper brigades, which often as not consisted of 18- and 19-year-old girls, who got to use one of the most manly weapons ever created to kill lots and lots of Germans, all while being amazingly beautiful to boot.

Some of these girls had as many as 75 confirmed kills with a primitive bolt-action rifle that kicks like a mule on crack.
