Hello,

It's a technology as rife with possibility and danger as the splitting of the atom.

I wonder whether we will make reactors or bombs with it?

Probably both.

Hmmm. While I'm in favor of the "Church" being more open minded, I'm not sure about this one. If their ONLY constrict is that it not be done with "embryonic stem cells, cloning or anything else that fiddles too much with the re-creation of human life", doesn't that leave the question open as to what is done to CREATION of life? If genetic changes can be made within the human body via synthetic cells, is that what they mean by "re-creation", or does "re-creation" mean changes done to the human before it enters the world? That's unclear to me.

Of course it can be misused, and may well be. The old question of changing genetics to pick what kind of baby one chooses to have has been debated since it became somewhat possible and people extrapolated beyond it. Anything man has invented or created has been manipulated by man for negative purposes, so I'm sure this will be no different. You're right: "Probably both".
